I got a 4K player at Christmas on sale for $189 and so far I have 2 movies for it and have only used it a couple of times. I would have been much better off waiting another year or two when the prices will probably be under $120 and there is a decent selection of movies out there.

I kind of skipped around but he hit on things I had already thought about before, that's why I've never thought Phil was this "savior" so many others seem to. The guy was high up in the chain of command for much of the 360's lifecycle and they still seemed to coast on the big 4 (well 3 now that fable is dead) while not showing any initiative to create anything really new and refreshing other than Kinect for the console.

The Wii had a few great games, but virtually nothing when it came to great 3rd party and multiplat games. If you didn't live and die by having Zelda and Mario, you didn't have much that was high quality

I doubt the biggest games will be able to run on Switch, things like RDR2, Battlefront 2 etc, they continue to make the same choices, they'd rather be different and not as formidable when it comes to tech. Most people I've talked to that bought a switch didn't have a WiiU and wanted to play the new Zelda.

Pretty much useless video, they admit MS's cpu is "heavily" customized versus that AMD 8 core, and the RAM is different, AND this isn't a closed box, just running a game on PC with zero console optimization(which is a console's biggest advantage technically)

35fps on Forza Horizon is pretty surprising with no optimization though.

The end of the video says it all, not sure if you watched it. The machine actually performed well.

But its always been that consoles(apparently only sony ones now) can box above their weight against PCs because of optimization. Scorpio actually has hardware advantages over that PCs too on top of that.

It's not the be all end all but that CPU was quite a bit more powerful than the one in either the Pro or Scorpio, of course it has more tasks it has to handle too but I don't doubt it still has a lot more to offer than the CPU in either console. DF did a video like this with a PC built to "pro specs" before the PS4 Pro came out as well.

Scorpio is going to be the most powerful console there is no denying that but it's not going to match a high end PC, you aren't going to get native 4K with ultra settings and you surely shouldn't expect games that are 30 fps on other consoles to be 60 fps on Scorpio. As long as a dev takes advantage of the added power you should still have the highest resolution and highest quality textures on console on Scorpio.

Huh? The video card they used and the CPU they used are both more powerful than the Scorpio.
You aren't going from 35 to 60fps with optimizations especially considering the PC box is more powerful.
You could lower settings to help improve things but than the visuals wouldn't be as good.

That PC is low end/weak for todays games.
Scorpio will be better off using fake 4K and upping the visuals.

Forza horizon is always 30fps on console, that video card difference won't make much of a difference compared to scorpio closed box.
 
what's the memory bandwidth on that Card? ... (looking up)... 256GB/s, so slower.

They never said Forza Horizon would run @ 60fps. It IS encouraging that they had it @30fps on Ultra. I think we can expect that if the game is built for 4k, it should still get improvements over the 'bone version.

This was pretty encouraging, imo. About what I expect, though the closed box, optimized nature will probably net better results. I doubt that the Tomb Raider example was indicative at all though. The Pro was able to get a nice bump, and it's full DX12, which should work very nicely on Scorps.

The dude keeps talking about 60fps @4k. That's never been promised for every game.

So what's your take on Scorpio? I see you playing some games on X1 lately. Will Scorpio finally squash the console wars for you or you still gonna try and play up the PS4 Pro? I need to know which side to support this Summer.

I am excited for the hardware(Day One if it has Dolby Vision) just hope they start bringing the games.
PS4 Pro offers the best experience in gaming for my taste but I go where the games are and whatever formats give me the games *Gameplay 1st Graphics 2nd*
Summer will be a drought for Xbox unless MS has some E3 surprises.

Well I am the same right now. Haven't turned my Xbox on in several months as I have been playing Sony and PC exclusives this year mostly. MS really needs to come out swinging at E3 for me to start caring anymore.
