I hope you never stealth kill me :(
Don't worry, you'll be dead before you drop your coffee... HEADSHOT!

Actually, he isn't. I am playing through the game right now and can confirm his experience.

We know you'll agree that's expected.

It's certainly not the worst, but it suffers from having amazing visuals in that expectations rise. It juxtaposes with everything else. Great animation in the movement, fantastic lighting and environmental detail. Realistic representations of humans. This all combines to highlight when something isn't hitting the right notes. It also doesn't help that there are many big budget games that do get it right most of the time.

I'm not sure you can apply the Open World argument either, as the fact that they are capturing the faces shows it's not a technological thing (like having to render longer draw distances/shadows/detail that you can't rely on being occluded on one side). They just haven't nailed it yet. That's understandable, but doesn't mean it doesn't detract from the overall experience, imo.

I do focus on small details, yes. I also played quite a bit last night, and she DOES leave her mouth open after speaking, a LOT. I'm sure it's intentional to try and convey some type of emotion/life, but they just don't do it right, imo.

I focus in minor detail but not in the way you do. At some point it'll just ruin the experience when taken over board, hence your post.

The game is great, I think we should all agree on that as well. The more I play the more the hunting reminds me of Red Dead Redemption.

I don't think we understand what you are getting at.

Never said it ruins it. Said it makes it hard to connect to the characters

I'm.pretty sure I've said it's a good game on more than one occasion.

I don't think that guy gets along with others very well.
Hell in another thread he made Val look like an Xbot.

I have to say though that I didn't notice what you're noticing. But I haven't played it very much yet.

Indeed you have. As have I. Played two more hours today too when I got home.

Yep. Me too, last night. Funny enough, I actually ran into an NPC that I thought looked great- It was a side mission to collect Goodwillow(?) and some outcast group had stolen it from a stuck up tribesman and locked him in a house. The leader of said group was well done. The dude that was locked up was deep in the valley, though.

Honestly, the faces move around a lot. Something just gets lost in translation.

On another note, the game definitely likes to portrays many of the males as weak, cowardly, and unable to help themselves. Except Rost, of course. All the bad ass warriors and wise figures (barring the Carja King who has a pretty serious puppy-dog image which doesn't jive with being able to overthrow the old, blood thirsty one- though I do like to see a game portray a benevolent ruler trying to do the right thing for once) seem to be females. I find it a bit silly, but it is a fantasy, after all.

Still a ton of fun, and the whole idea that every enemy (barring humans) is treated like a mini boss encounter. Game is stunning to look at as well. I also kinda like the idea of having character poses and expressions in photo mod- even if I don't like most of them, it's still a great Idea.

I noticed this too.

I have found out, as mention above, whistling works great. Been doing that instead of rocks lately, and my stealth kills are up 10 fold. Stealth kills feel so satisfying.

I'm not sure where you are in the story but Aloy gets a lot of tools and its easy to forget about some of them. If you have shock arrows/shock trip wires are great for stunning robots and then quickly moving in for the kill or override. Corruption arrows cause all kinds of havok and the sniper arrows work great at tagging weak spots from relative safety.

Damn, talking about it is making me want to play this game again. But there is nothing for me to do but collectables.

The collectibles are fun, and you get a free avatar and theme from Sony for Platinuming the game. ;)

If you finish the game doing just the main quests (which is what I am doing), does the game remain open for you to go back and do the side quests and get collectibles?

WHAT?

Why you no tell me that before. :txbmad:

Kidding, I remember something to that effect but thanks for the reminder. That gives me a reason to go back and get all those collectables. I think I also need those wooden targets scattered around the world.

I read that for the DLC GG is adding more weapons. This is a small thing but I hope GG also plans on expanding the weapon wheel. It was easy enough to pause the game and swap out things but the weapon wheel makes things more seamless especially during combat.

It does! I fired it up a week or so ago just to mess around again, wound up killing robots for a hour even though I've 100%-ed the game!

Yeah. Doing the tutorials for each weapon and ammo type nets lots of experience as well as teaches the best uses for each. Knowing to use Shock on power cores, Fire on Blaze Canisters, and Ice on Chill canisters was a huge deal. I also like to switch outfits on the fly depending on what I'm doing/fighting- love the Shadow Stealth outfit with stealth weaves as it vastly reduces their ability to find you. Also use a lot of the Projectile protection outfit, Fire, and Frost. The corruption one with a melee and stealth weave (because otherwise getting close for stealth kills is unwise.

I love to sneak up on those antlered 'bots and slowmo shoot a blaze arrow into several different blaze canisters on their backs. The resulting explosion (and splash damage) is so much fun to witness!
Lots of great Ideas I hope to be copied by everyone and their dog in future games :D

I don't usually like stealth but really liked it in this game, and I think it's opened me up to the joys of sneakiness in other games, too. For instance, I did stealth whenever I could in UC4, just recently. In fact, I noticed some similarities between UC4 and Horizon stealth, in the way they'd hide in long grass. I wonder if the studios borrowed ideas from each other about that.

Yes, it's open world after the ending. It's a little different, in that it resets the world to the point just before the final series of quests begins.

This is the only game I've ever played where I bothered to do all the collectible activities. That's because they were fun in and of themselves (vs. a collectathon). I especially liked the overlook points and the banuk statues.

Only game I've ever Platinumed. I didn't really care -- I was just playing the game and ended up getting 90% of it just by doing what I felt like. It's a pretty easy platinum if you play the game thoroughly. By the way, you don't need to get all the audiologs and documents to get the Platinum. Just the other stuff. The only Platinum task that was a little tedious for me was knocking over the training dummies. I used a YouTube video to help me out with that.

Yeah, it is. Although, occasionally, I would feel guilty -- they are just grazing peacefully, minding their own business. And here I come, blowing them up for no good reason except it looks cool. But it does look cool.

Anyone else feel sorry for the machines sometimes? Like, when they were injured and limping, sometimes they looked like hurt animals. I'd feel a little sorry for them. Then I'd figure, well, I guess I'd better put them out of their misery...

I finally completed it today. All I have to say is WOW.

People were not wrong with the story of this game, it is gripping, layered with lots of depth and mystery and just when you think you know everything there is more to learn. Also that ending
, oh boy, we are definitely not finished with Sylens from the looks of it.
The story is just fantastic. Aloy, Sylens, Avad and Helis were all excellently done. I am tempted to say it is my favourite story in a ever game ever, I am just so blown away that this came from Guerrilla Games.Every revelation was handled with care and really hit so hard. I don't think anyone would have guessed what happened. I am still taking time to process my thoughts on this game. It really is a must own for PS4 owners. What I love about this game is that this is the real deal, you could forgive Guerrilla for messing up on a few things as making new I.P's on this scale are so hard but they knocked it out of the park in everything: graphics, sound, story, world design, combat, characters and mechanics.

Bloody amazing game. I am going to pour another 30 hours into it as I have dozen of activities to complete.

Awesome. Glad you liked it. It's my GOTY. I'm glad I played it straight through without listening to forum analyses or reviews. Felt I got a cleaner experience that way. More personal.

Hope you don't mind, I spoiler tagged that bit about the ending. Not a big deal, but some people are still playing through.

I think it's a great game. I agree, Guerilla knocked it out of the park, especially considering this was their first foray into a completely new genre, and on such a big scale. I loved it.

LOL That's a really stupid way of thinking. Just because people disagree on some thing doesn't mean they don't get along. Wtf world do you live in? Care Bear Land?

I'm not saying that everyone has to agree to get along. It just seems like you're generally abrasive with those that don't agree with you.

As evidenced by you calling me stupid.

Maybe in Binary Land. If the experience completely relied on the dialogue portions, then, yes the valley might actually "ruin" the experience. Good thing it's still better than stuff like ME:A or Fallout in that regard.

There is also the fantastic movement and enemy encounters. The action RPG goodness, the immersive world and atmophere, etc.

One or two less-than-perfect elements do not ruin a game experience. It's just something they can work on.

Fighting the Behemoth right now. f*** this.

Yeah, they can be tough, especially if you've got more than one coming at you at once. One-on-one, a ropecaster is enough, but a herd of them is difficult.

My method was to find someplace high to stand, somewhere just out of their reach. I'd lure them over, then shoot shock arrows into their backs. zzzt, boom. More shock arrows when they'd come to investigate. Maybe I'd have time to scramble down and give one a couple of whacks, then hurry back up. Sometimes they'd get enraged enough to reach me, which wasn't good. I would also put mines and trip-wires where they would gather when they investigated. I'd do that kind of thing until they were all taken out.

It was kind of a chicken sh*t method, but hey, I go with what works. I'm not going to take on a herd of behemoths on the ground. Not unless I have the ability to override them, that is -- which I did acquire late in the game. Watching two behemoths wrecking each other is fun.

Thanks Andy. I am fighting the one in the arena. Gonna take a break and come back to it with your recommendation. I was frustrated.
