Penello: Microsoft will talk about Xbox One's architecture "very soon"

Then why confirm something that has already been confirmed once already?

because positive press is positive press.

You wouldn't talk up something positive about your hardware like the upclock of the cpu and gpu?

also, visit that site, they never covered the upclocks when they first happened. it was new news to that writer.

No misleading press is misleading press. Contrary to popular belief not all press is good especially when it is misleading and incorrect. AP had the ability to clarify and he is either being coy or there is something afoot here. Several people have asked him if this is referring to the upclocks and he will not answer unlike the dGPU which he did strike down.

Especially since if something has been announced all he has to say is, 'This is referring to the upclocks we already announced'.

it's only misleading if you have trouble accepting reality.

Why is it in today's world people can't disagree in a manner that is respectful. Instead if I don't believe as you do I am crazy, or dumb, or just don't get it?

No, either AP is deliberately trying to mislead or MSoft does have something up their sleeves.

Or he's just in bed and will clarify in the morning? :p

Has any other gaming sites picked this story up and ran it like it meant something huge? Just curious

No doubt.

Not really, which plays into it being old news about the upclocks which all of the sites reported already. The article specifically said though that Harrison would not go into specifics which does not make any sense since the upclocks were already confirmed by MSoft.

Intentional ambiguity to rile the MisterX's of the internet up?

I tend to lean on the upclock explaination, however (and I have said this before) I really do hope for a megaton..just so I can set back and watch the meltdowns/drama unfold

yes, I'm a bit of a dick lol

in a world where idiots like the people at the misterxmedia blog exists, it's not a question you should have to ask.

Albert has done anything but try to get the facts out.

Again, the console was sent to the fcc in June or passed the FCC in june. The console went in to full production earlier this month.

Upgrading the cpu and gpu in these consoles is not like swapping out a gpu or cpu in a pc. You are talking about a brand new SoC, test wafers, testing, the console etc etc, and they did this in 2 months from E3 until full manufacturing earlier this month? come on.

I just have a question, and sure it might be silly, but outside of the upclocks...is there any way they could have upgraded the CU's or ROP's or ALU's or anything like that without changing the chip? anything architectural or software optimization based?

software sure. That's how they upclocked the cpu/gpu.

way too late for hardware.

Really?

But outside of changing the clock speed, can they up other aspects of it? I know that the GPU has 14 CU's but 2 are not being used (for redundency I think) but is there any way they could get more CU's? or is that strictly hardware based?

Yes. I think he has been the most straightforward and truthful dude even if he has misunderstood/made mistakes in his comments. He wants to get the facts out.
Then you worded it wrong :p

You made it sound like he wasn't trying to get the facts out. I think you meant "Hasn't done anything but get the facts out"

not w/o changing the gpu, thus changing the entire soc I believe.

Again this change could have been done long ago and reported to the FCC when they did the filing and MSoft is just now outing it. Who the hell knows at this point.

misterxmedia is either a very elaborate hoax or will have a very big gaming website if all this is true.

Hopefully AP clears it up in the morning.

but the article specifically says the cpu/gpu were upgraded since e3 according to Harrison, not before.

Well E3 was in early June, do we have a concrete date or timeframe for the FCC passing? or could it have been sometime after E3? :p

Also, outside of just changing the hardware (which yes is pretty unlikely) and the upclocks (which is probably likely) what other sorts of things could MS do/have done to the GPU/CPU to 'upgrade' it or just make it better? Just for speculations sake

Just was looking up what FCC approval covered and what not, and came across this (it has to do with PC hardware though)

http://stason.org/TULARC/pc/pc_hard...d_what_needs_to_be_approved.html#.UkpoU4bBPcA
Once a SYSTEM has passed FCC certification, a manufacturer may swap or add FCC certified cards and peripherals and retain compliance even though the system may technically exceed the limit with the different peripherals. I believe the FCC still has the right to demand that the system be in actual compliance with the emissions limits.

Swapping Motherboards,Power Supplies, and Cases.

You may not swap motherboards, power supplies, or cases, without re- certification.
I don't know how much any of that would be pertainable to consoles, but something to think about.

It's about the upclocks. What is so difficult in understanding that? People are playing with wording which is just ridiculous.

Yet they never said, 'upgrade', when talking about the upclocks. They actually said 'we increased the clock speed'.

I have no idea what he means but after the PR nightmare with talking about their digital plans I would think MSoft would have learned their lesson about clear and concise communication. If this is just a restatement of previous news then MSoft will deserve whatever fate the X1 gets.

its a weird choice of words. Would you ever say you "upgraded" your CPU simply because you increased the clock speed? I would never use it in that sense, but that doesnt mean he wouldnt.

Just to throw gas on this fire...during the interview with Carl Ledbetter he did say there was things about the X1 that has not been revealed to the public yet.
