The Dark Souls Thread! v2.0

toxic mist is only good if enemies are weak against poison. Is the looking glass knight weak against poison ? There is one NPC available for the battle.
I laid the toxic mist on him once and it did nothing. Then I tried with the NPC, and lolz. It was so easy it almost felt like cheating.

yeah. With the NPC help, the looking glass knight is a joke. I helped two others beat him as well as a phantom. I went on to clear Shrine of Armara and beat the boss there without loosing one life. Another first for me. Took an NPC jester with me through the level and he just kicked ass left and right.

Finally starting to get a serious character going. I've been pumping points into faith and now have 33 lightening spears to accompany my dex 40, str 35 melee attacks and with the dragon bow +3 has a back up. I've been smashing bosses to bits now. Undead crypt is next. Going to try to get enough sun medals for the sun spear.

I am still right at the start of Amara. I keep trying to make my way across the water to get a an Item and keep drowning :(

Who do you see about reallocating stats for your character ?

use a torch to clearly seen where you can and cannot walk. Be warned though, torches aggro the under water lizard men. The old hags in the hut at the very start of the game are where you can reallocate. I killed them for effigies so it cost me 15k to resurrect one in order to use the soul vessel.

Serves you right for murdering poor defenceless old woman.

ppft. She's lucky I can't kill her a second time. I'm an undead monster after all. I intend to kill everyone in majula before going into ng+. Yes. I'm a c***.

And got the kings ring. I boosted a bit using the respawning pyromancers and now I'm packing the great lightening spear with 16 casts. That spell is beastly. It ripped up the boss in the crypt.

I am still right at the start of Amana. I have been farming Twinkling Titanite that drops with high frequency here. Think I have like 30 of them now. So is perhaps time to move on. Can not wait to max out my Dragonslayer Axe.

Did you the find the Red Iron Twinblade in Amana ? I wants it so bad.

No. Didn't find that weapon. I went through the area in record speed for me. I usually spend 5 or 6 hours in each area as I move. I only spent an hour in that place. Where did you farm the twinkling titanite ? I've beaten the guardian Dragon in alitas keep now as well. Very easy solo with the great lightening spear.

I have not gone through the first Fog gate yet. The Magic users seem to drop them more frequently. I have not been wearing high luck gear either, just normal armour.

The guys that cast the spells? Didn't notice any as I went. But I had that NPC jester with me. He killed loads so I may have missed some. The first fog gate isn't a boss, it's just an area unlock so don't worry about it.

Yeah, those with the annoying homing souls arrows. I had 20 twinkling Titanite when I went to upgrade my Dragonslayer axe, and I am pretty sure I had 5 to begin with. So I have gotten 15ish. The Archdrakes drop them too, but a lot less frequently.

Really enjoying Demon's Souls. Is there really a good way to progress? I did 1-1 but then went to 2-1 and stopped before the boss before going back to 1-2 as I wanted to get magic stuff. Found the wood catalyst and killed some knobs before calling it a night. Should I just finish all of arch stone one before moving on?

Much of it depends on the build you want to go with. A magic user might want to jump to 3-1, a cleric 5-1. Finishing up 1-2 and 2-1 are good places to go in the meantime.

You are never obligated to "finish" a level if it is giving you trouble. You can simply bounce around and hunt for items or level up. Let us know what kind of build you are going for, and we can give you some guidance for the best direction. If magic is your thing, you can get a nice magic weapon near the beginning of 4-1 though it is a bit tricky to get.

Just do whatever you want to. There is not set path one must take, or one path that is best. I myself tried to them in order, but if I got stuck, then I would go elsewhere and come back after levelling up a couple times, or finding a new beast weapon, or after upgrading a weapon.

Glad you're enjoying it. I personally think Demon Souls is the best of the Souls game. I think it has the best bosses and the best atmosphere.

I have a Knight class and was originally going for mainly melee stuff with higher strength and endurance, but I read that magic is also really good to use, so I will probably add to that as well. I like that no matter what you choose your defense still increases.

There are lots of melee weapons in the game. Some scale off of strength and others scale off of dexterity. Remember that you can always buy the smaller shards to upgrade weapons, so feel free to experiment. The chunks are a bit harder to come by though.

If you need some armor, the leather armor sets are good. You can pick up the black armor in 3-1, and you can buy regular leather armor in 4-1 from the merchant. Roll speed is more important than total armor defense in this game.

I really liked the morning star in this game. You can get it right at the start of 5-1. At the start of 5-2 you can also pick up the mirdan hammer which is awesome as I've said before.

There is the steel shield in 2-1 and the purple flame shield in 1-1. If you want something lighter, you can farm for the knight shield from the blue eyed guys in world 1.

There is a free fire (dragon) longsword in 2-2.

Basically, anywhere you go, you can pick up something to try out.

Also, be sure to drop off items at stockpile thomas when you get back to the nexus. There IS a limit on how much you can carry in your inventory, and you can end up losing items if you're not careful.

I've upgraded my starting long sword to +4 I think. Still using default fluted armor but had my eye on the brushwood stuff. I read there is some good armor in 1-1 after you get pure white in that world. I will have to keep dexterity in mind when leveling up as well. Think I'm at soul level 15 right now.

I thought I'd check in as well. I'm still on 4 - 2 in Demon's Souls because I haven't been able to get much playing time lately. (Work)

Anyway, I hope to finish the level & go to Tower of Latria next for a few levels.

I did put in Dark Souls 2 for just a few minutes this week to see the opening scene & to goof around in the tutorial area. But for now that's all I'm going to do right now. I'm too invested in DeS. But one note I'd like to say is DS2's controls felt a bit 'floaty' to me. Did it to anyone else? Maybe I need to adjust the controller sensitivity.

I do not think so. However, I think it will be very few folk who went from Demon to Dark Souls 2 in the way you did. So differences are going to be less telling for them.

Never played demon souls. I've only played dark souls 1 & 2. The controls from the dark souls games are exactly the same save for dodging seems harder in DS2,

The brushwood set is cool and all, but it's really heavy. Like I said, I favor having a good roll speed over heavy armor in this game. It's not like Dark Souls. Of course, you should still explore and try things out. Make sure you pick up the ring of herculean strength BEFORE you go out trying to pick up armor sets. Take the hairpin from 1-1 and give it to stockpile thomas for the ring. You'll need it.

I also went from Demon's Souls to Dark Souls 2, and I thought it felt a bit clunky as well. They did slow down a few things here and there, and run speed/equip load will also affect movement quite a bit. I'm a bit more used to it now, but I still like the way Demon's Souls felt.

Yep got the ring. Also, are the boss souls the same as the uknown soldier and what not? Just wait until you're ready to spend them and then use the item? I have the 1-1 boss soul still but haven't used it yet.

No, you should never "use" the boss souls. You can get souls anywhere. Hell, just go to 4-2 and you can farm 4k souls in a minute. Save the boss souls for the special items or spells they unlock. This may require talking to various NPCs here and there until you find one that can use the soul.

Im going to start Dark Souls 1 (dl it free) so what is a great starting class for a newbie?

Hmm, it depends on if you want to go melee or magic.

Pyromancy is really strong and helpful early on, but the shield this class uses is crap. You'll have to pick up a better shield asap.

Warrior is good for a melee class, and so is bandit.

Knight has good armor, but you probably don't want to fat roll right away. The shield is very nice for a starting shield though.

The cleric has a healing spell that can help you save your estus flasks.

I bought this game last year for like 5 euros, but never could get myself to finally play it. But i recently did and boy am i addicted. Today i came close to totally killing that addiction completely, cause one boss fight was giving me a unessecary difficult time. The Capra Demon. Soon as i entered that area he attacked me and before i could even f***ing breath...i was already dead. Worse is how i could not even dodge his attacks and the rare times that i did dodge them, those f***ing hounds were blocking my path up to the stairs.

I managed to kill the demon eventually though, thanks to a Youtube video. But this part seriously pissed me off bigtime. I do not mind a challenge, but i DO mind being put in a ridiculously small area with almost nowhere to go, crazy demon with his big ass weapon and two hounds that can also kill me quite quickly. Glad i am past this now. But honestly....i am not looking forward much to what is to come. Cause i know for sure some truly nightmarish parts await me, i can feel it. I thought this was a cool article on the Drake Sword by the way...i did obtain it, but after reading this article and some others...i am barely using it.

The capra demon is generally regarded as one of the most annoying fights (for all the reasons you mentioned). The others are not so bad, but some are hard in other ways. Most of them are not too bad though. There are a few that may frustrate you quite a bit, but not because of a bullsh!t small room with a cheap fight.

If you are getting really frustrated with any one part or boss, just post here and let us know. We can generally see what you are doing wrong or if you are making things harder for yourself than they should be.
