The Dark Souls Thread! v2.0

Any advice for the Vendrick battle ? Have the old giants souls. Can't seem to avoid his attacks though. And he hits big.

Ah remember that fight against the undead king, best spot is behind his left leg if I remember correctly and then follow his movements.

However avoid getting trapped between him and a narrow spot as then dodging is much harder.

What I did was to wait until he attacked then I attack him 1 or 2 times then follow his movements again.

And when he starts jumping around run towards him and dodge when he is attacking and try get behind him again.

The boss of 3-2 is one of the 3 hardest bosses in Demon's Souls. It's that platform you can get knocked off of that's the main problem. Watch to make sure he doesn't knock you off.
I made my way through 3 - 2 and cut these two giant chains holding up a heart. I somehow got back to the first of the level so I stopped at the bonfire. I believe I need to return to the place where the heart is.

Also, I met the NPC known as Yurt the Silent Chief. I let him out of his cage. When I did that I was thinking about his tone & the way he was speaking to me so I just decided to kill him right on the platform where we were. I also did Patches like that when I met him in Stonefang by the way. Yurt has some sweet looking armor. Anyway, I bet I'll finally meet up with the boss tomorrow night.

It's probably a good thing you killed Yurt. He supposedly kills some NPCs in the nexus, but I can't remember the details. His armor does look pretty sweet. Just make sure you can still fast roll. Let me know if you have any trouble with the boss here. Also, don't forget to explore the bottom area of where the heart dropped for some items.

Ok man, I'll do it. I tried on his complete armor set and was fat rolling so I switch part of the set with leather.

Another point I'd like to say is my +4 Dragon Long Sword has been awesome to use.

Need some advice on what to do next. I got the Ashen Mist Heart last night.

What optional things should I do before I complete the game? Like should I attack the old king or the ancient dragon? Any weapons or items needed before NG+?

Will I reach a point of no return? If so, what is it in a non-spoilery way.

Should I access the Dead Giant Memories first or the Throne of Want?

Ancient Dragon has been beaten. Took me a good few attempts to come up with decent strategy but once I had it down, he's easy enough. Still haven't beaten Vendrick. I think I'm getting closer though. Once he's done it's on to new game plus.

Do all the memories first. Then do the optional boss fights and finish the game by beating the throne of want. After the credits you'll be transported back to manjula. Resting at the bonfire will give the option for NG+. You should get anything you want first, armour sets, boss soul weapons, titanite shards, max out your favorite arrows, potions, rings, everything you can think off. Visit every trader and check what they have. After you get the kings ring some traders have new items. Then when you've beaten all the optional bosses amd have everything you think you need, kick off NG+. Max out your favorite weapons if possible as well.

Ah thanks. Interesting, even after beating the game, I have to initiate NG+ through the Manjula bonfire. So, I could do all the extra, optional stuff after beating the game?

Yep. After you fight Nashandra , the game is technically over. The credits roll and at the end your back in manjula. You can then tackle all the optional stuff and collect everything else you want. You should definitely get all the giant souls from the memories before doing the throne of want and Vendrick though.

Woohoo. Dark Souls 2 has been beaten. That last boss fight. Goddamn. Now for some grinding and murder and then its on to NG+
are you getting the season pass? if so maybe wait on starting ng+ as we don't know what part of the game you need to be in to access it.(july is when the 1st content is released)

This is an excellent point. I really hope Fromsoftware isn't that stupid this time with DLC being tied to progress.

I won't get the season pass but I'll probably get the first dlc anyway. Good point though. I really want to get started in NG+ but this is definitely something to consider.

I would keep that NG save if you don't want to play thru again. I have read from various places that the DLC will access at certain points in the game. Where i don't know. I swear i heard an interview and the guy said you needed to be as far as the undead crypt. I have seen others say black gulch, but either way they all seem to think it will be at various points in the game.

Here is a thread with some people talking about it. You can find other threads and video around the net if you look, but i haven't found anything that says 100% where it would start. Either way, i have kept an end of game save so i could jump right into it.

Does DS2 allow you to save duplicates of save files? Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 were c***s about backing save files up.

I really hope From isn't that dumb with DLC again. I love the Souls series, but the DS1 DLC made you jump through hoops to the point that I bought DS2 used. I doubt I'd buy the new DLC if they're that dumb again. I'll continue to buy their games used if they're going to make DLC a challenge to even reach.

On PC i think you can download a program that lets you duplicate saves, but i do not see how you could on the console. You can always wait and get the specifics on the DLC location. I would assume its in the second half of the game, as they'll want you to have certain weapons and soul level possible.

I ended up starting NG+. I'm level 220 so I'm powering through it anyway. Already at no mans wharf. I'm doing lots co op this time so I can get my sun Bros sun spear. If the dlc can't be started until a certain point then I'll get the dlc when I get to that point.

Yeah, I'll be waiting to see the specifics about the DLC. I'm moving in a few days so I doubt I'll have a lot of time to play much anyway.

In regards to the console saves, I know with Demon's Souls they locked the saves completely. There was no way to copy them. I looked into upgrading my PS3 hdd and there was no way of copying the Demon's Souls save files to the new hdd, they were forever stuck on the original hdd (w/o modding). With Dark Souls 1 (on 360) you could only move saves, not copy them. I'm not sure if DS2 works the same. It always bothered me that I couldn't make a copy to the cloud of a game that I put 100+ hours into. Maybe they'll get it right in Bloodborne.

Flexile Sentry and Ruin Sentinels are down and out. The Ruin Sentinels were easy this time around. I farmed them for their armour first time around so I knew their moves inside out. The flexile sentry was a little tougher though. Those support mobs that drop to help him caught me a few times.

Ok Godsmack,

I defeated the Maneater. Both of them. That was a tough boss fight. Just like you said. I kept getting knocked off the platform during the fight. Anyway I persevered and defeated the boss.

Cool. Sometimes, you can stay towards the middle area where it's round and not get knocked off as much, but it's not always ideal.

The only other hard boss I can think of is to 1-4. The others should not give you too much trouble depending on how you handle them and what your build looks like. A few more things I'll mention, there are probably still areas in 1-1 and 1-2 that you haven't been to yet. For some rooms, you will need a key. It's worth going back when you get them, of course you might not get the keys until 1-3 or 1-4.

Hi all,

Well last week during my game hours was mostly a fantastic Dark Souls time and i absolutely LOVE the game. Near the end of the week i was in The Painted World of Ariamis where i did a s***load of farming so that i got my vitality, endurance and dexterity up to 40 and my level...well...that is about 105 or so, lol.

Progress wise i have beaten Anor Londo as a location and also the O&S boss fight. This was a part in the game i wasn't looking forward to, due to the many things i read about it online. Destructoid called it a terrible location, or something along those lines and i read many complaints about a almost impossible boss fight. First of all i LOVED Anor Londo as a location, great level design. The boss itself took me two tries, and i finished them on the third. This was quite a fierce fight though, probably the most hectic battle yet, cause that Ornstein keeps coming at you, but nothing my Uchigatana+10 couldn't handle and soon as he was a goner....i went Great chaos fireball on Smough's ass and finished it off with some Firebolts, while dodging his attacks. Cause even though i had levelled up a lot, his attacks still did devastating damage to me. Also....warp for the win! Finally! Great great game.

Ok, I'll remember to go back to those places.

I just beat 1 - 3 by killing Penetrator. That was a great fight. The first time I faced him I was too heavy & was fat rolling. Yeah that was the kiss of death. Came back lean & mean and finished him off by blocking and dodging his attacks & hitting him at the moments he was vulnerable.

I enjoyed that.

That's awesome Mosquito! I'm glad you like the game. Please continue to give us updates. I enjoy reading them.

Cool. I take it you didn't summon Biorr then. I think this is the only fight where you can summon an npc, but I can't remember. If you haven't freed him yet you should do that. He's in 1-2. There's also an npc in 1-3 you can free though you have to be crafty.

Cool man, i like that you enjoy them. :)

Yesterday during my DS game hours i spent them mostly on figuring out what kind of armor i wanted to use for the last parts of the game, so it was either going to be a mixture of the Silver Knight armor with some other pieces providing good poise, but i ended up buying the Giant's armor in Anor Londo at the blacksmith, fully reinforcing that to +5. I wanted to look cool while at the same time having good enough defense and poise.

Now i want to +15 that Uchigatana as soon as possible, cause it's still at +10. And from there i wonder if i should do something else with it, or keep it that way. I also turned a +10 Laito into the Chaos Blade, the amount of HP it takes away really isn't too bad and i might use it for some upcoming bosses maybe, cause damage wise it does more than my Uchigatana currently. Today i will spend some good hours in DS again. Honestly never thought i'd get so addicted to this game, hell...not long ago i was like ''Dark Souls? Definitely not my thing.'' Lol.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I haven't even seen this Biorr character.

That reminds me that I feel I could do another play through and have an experience that is a lot different. I have just been playing the game and not worrying about world tendencies. I've tried to explore but I know I've missed stuff.

I just read this over on Gaf and was wondering if it was true or not. Person was talking about Demon's Souls:

Game was a joke (beat Dark first) till I learned of NG+ and black phantom NPCs. The real Demons Souls starts at NG+
