If Greatest Console=Most Popular with the most sold, no argument from me. Still have mine hooked up, ready to play. Certainly not the best hardware of it's generation, though.
Not just about sales. PS2 made gaming cool and put a console in everyone's homes. Wii, while did similar was far from cool and never became the nameplate that playstation did.
Its the most powerful game console but the Xbox One is definitely the most powerful entertainment console. No question.

And how does one distinguish between a 'entertainment console' and a 'games console that has 90% of the same features', kinect does not maketh a 'entertainment console'. They both have largely the same entertainment features.

more power doesn't equate to being a "great" console...
hardware is only half (I'd argue even less) of the equation.... Which is why you don't see yoyo spewing forth the one true weakness of the PS4...
look at the Wii and how well it sold against the X360 and PS3... Those two consoles were definitely more powerful... Yet the Wii exceeded many sales expectations across the board... if you go and do a poll with the general public .... I'd bet many of them would rank the Wii as the "greatest" of that generation purely on how it changed gaming...
I think the Wii did well because of solid marketing and a cool new idea, but eventually not being on the same playing field as MS/Sony in terms of tech caught up with them and the Wii U sales just haven't even come close to having the same fire. I think the launches of both X1/PS4 beat the Wii U's launch, it's a sign that Nintendo has to maybe splurge more on what's inside the console 4-7 years down the road.

To even try to compare both console feature for feature, pound for pound, the XO handily, HANDILY out performs the Ps4. Thats a no brainer. f*** sakes some of you guys are delusional. The Ps eye is a last generation camera compared to the Kinect 2.0. It literally stomps it into the ground. For the slow and desperate: the Ps4 is the most powerful gaming console (and even this may change if the second wave of games improve on the XO), the Xbox One is the most powerful entertainment console. Done deal...
Yeah, I think that's generally agreed upon, too -- that if you're looking at non-gaming "entertainment" features like integration with your cable TV, snapping, and voice or motion control, X1 has the clear advantage.

They both are great consoles and people should buy them according to their tastes for entertainment.
As far as entertainment goes it's a true statement and everyone knows it. Name another piece of tech that i can play the industries best blockbuster games on, watch Hulu Plus and Netflix to satisfy my TV and movie appetite. Surf the web and stay in contact with my friends and family with apps like Skype. All with the ability to control everything with my voice. Name one other than the Xbox One. You can't.
The Xbox One is the best thing i've ever spent money on. It's worth every penny. It's the pinnacle of console gaming and it's the only entertainment box i need under my TV. The all in one set top box. Microsoft is at the apex of their craft and nobody can beat them.

Yeah, was surprised they didn't include smartglass on it though. The companion onDR3 adds a lot to the game. If others do the same, its no vita companion,but its worth at least mentioning.

Both consoles are solid... not "great"... recommendation is to buy based on your individual lifestyle, etch... and if possible... get both...
But barely. It's even a closer race than last gen in terms of power. Yet the X1 walks away with awesomesauce games AND entertainment.

Each console has significant pros and significant cons. Whatever our choice, it is human nature to downplay the cons and emphasize the pro's of our individual choice. Some people are aware of those tendencies to bias evaluations in favor of what we prefer, and others just act them out unwittingly.

Yup. Unfortunately people here keep trying to make the case that one is objectively "better" than the other one overall, as if they are actually putting forth convincing arguments rather than just stating and restating their opinion (which is fine, I suppose, but becomes tedious after the 20th time their personal response is posed as if it were based on fact).
I'd get both, but I'm cheap, and besides, I never seem to have time for more than one console.
Looking at just raw numbers, they are actually further apart.
The 360 ps3 flops difference was only something like 100gflops, if even that much, in favor of the ps3 side because of the cell. Of course we know that the 360 had the superior gpu which pretty much made that 100gflop difference negligible.
The xb1 ps4 you are looking at a 500+ gflop difference and well, both have s***ty mobile cpus.
