I thought it was fine. There was definitely no megaton, but they had a ton of ground to cover and touched on all the key points and showcased Gears and Halo without neglecting the smaller independent studios.

Let's see what MS home games with have just single player only.

Well unless you believe they are lying about creative freedom I am not sure how you can doubt single player only games would be in their future. All those studios and not one of them is going to want to make just a single player game? Including Ninja Theory and Double Fine?

I enjoyed it :txbconfused:

I think people go into these things overhyped. This is the end of a generation folks, remember, you-know-who didn't even show up.

I hate to tell people, but not everyone in the Xbox fan world loves Gears as much. E3 is about hype, not gameplay. Just google it and you'll find tons of videos from people playing at E3. They aren't "hiding" anything.

I would have loved to see specific games (Forza? Fable?), but my gosh, that was an hour and 45 minutes of games. Plus an Elite controller and a brand new console?

Sometimes the hype comes from the gameplay. Not everyone likes Halo but you can damn sure it will have a demo next year. I have to agree with the notion that it comes off as them not having the confidence in Gears to give it a demo on the big stage.

No matter what it wouldn't be right. There's tons of video footage of gameplay available. Just plug "gears 5 e3" into Youtube.

Spoiler alert- Gears isn't that great. It didn't carry the show because it was never going to. They could have put gameplay on stage and they would have been blasted for "that's all they have".

Better to be blasted for "that's all they have" then "they have nothing"

Gears was a series that could carry a show. If it can't now then they have a problem.

But lets not pretend people don't care about actually seeing gameplay during these shows.

If we use this logic then why bother with E3 at all.

Can not beleive gamers are actually defending no gameplay....well, actually that is a lie, I can beleive it.

Not showing gameplay on Halo, or other games coming "later" is one thing. Not showing it for games releasing this year is another. Not showing it for your biggest game of the year launching in three.goddamn.months and saying it'll be on IGN and at the show instead is an abject failure, especially since they cut the show down from the original 2 hours. Start the show with that Halo trailer and end it with five to ten minutes of Gears 5 gameplay and you've got a show that's a hell of a lot better received.
(With that said, I gave it a C. The game pass stuff, the new console stuff, plus the acquisition of double fine is good. They did show a lot of games, which is good. They just need to show some damn gameplay for the games coming out in the next year, doubly so when it's their AAA titles).

I think it was a fine conference. Compared with State of Play and Nintendo direct, I thought it was good.

These are games coming to the current console and their were alot. MS still has much work their building on to fix what happened at the previous console launch.

You called the gameplay "boring" in the Gears 5 thread. Which means:

a) You found it no problem
b) You didn't like it anyway

Which is why I'm confused as to why people needed to see it on stage? People are confusing "no gameplay" with not on stage.

Well there was no gameplay on stage but the complaint I think is mostly regarding the campaign. Everyone expected to see it and it not being there sets off alarm bells

A. So what..doesn't mean it shouldn't be in the conference.
B. Again, so what. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be there.

Your logic here completely negates E3. So why bother having E3 conferences at all?

No. You are the one confusing things. We are saying "no gameplay on stage" and you are confusing it with no gameplay ever.

So why bother having E3 conferences at all?

Exactly. They aren't needed to showcase anything anymore. They are just to build some hype.

If E3 was so important, one side wouldn't have skipped completely. Did Sony make a mistake not showing up?

But you don't build hype with these trailers. Look around, people were undewhelmed not hyped.

Who is hyped for Bleeding Edge? Virtually nobody.

Sorry, but reality isn't lining up with what you are saying.

You build hype for games three years away with trailers (see: Sony's E3 years ago when Death Stranding was announced).

You build hype for games three months away by playing.the.f***ing.game.

Well the criticism Microsoft is getting is probably the reason Sony didn't show up but if its about building hype I'm not sure what hype they built. Certainly didn't build any for Gears.

I had to rewatch the E3 and to be honest now it was an okay show. I really don't know what people want from MS to show when they all know the games that are coming out will be next year (most of them).

Possible to show it off on the next system instead of the current system to show the big difference?

I think MS played it safe and the real deal is next year.

So what did we learn time and time again?

Never get overhyped
Never trust a source because they can lead to disappointment when it is just false
Take it as is when showing something.

Obviously the real deal is next year, that was obvious. I don't think anybody was expecting an amazeballs show...1. It is MS this gen, 2. It is too late in the gen for that.

They had stuff to show, though, that is what is so bad...but they didn't show it in any meaningful way.

Still, could be worse. It could be Bethesda's conference...i'd need a f***ing alien language to get a rating low enough for that s***show.
