Ars Technica compares Xbox One and PS4 Specs

Honest prediction, void of any fanboyism. Nintendo will be third, but manage to ultimately make a profit. As for X1 and PS4, it really depends on who captures the "imagination" of the gamer world. Neither are exactly "pure" gaming machines since they'll have internet and multimedia features up the wazoo. X1 might have the edge if they can produce great TV content, but I see very similar sales like what we have today making the fanwars even more banal.
This is the first time the Nintendo might not actually make a profit on its console system. That being said...I just bought my daughter a Wii U and I can't wait to play it.

Wait.... first time they've ever been profitable? Wii U? Is that worded right because I'm pretty sure they were swimming in cash last gen.

I typed too fast I meant to say might not make a profit...sorry about that.

System power has never mattered. The Xbox was most powerful and it was in last place. The Triple was more powerful and it was in last place. The Genesis was the most powerful, last place. Dreamcast, Neogeo, PSP, Vita, Jaguar. Anyone seeing a pattern?

Straight up the Only pattern I see is XB coming up short every gen with Nintendo and Sony being dominant vs the likes of Sega/MS for the most part.

xbox 360 beat the PS3 this gen(at least so far)....so there isn't a pattern anymore.

Seeing as there aren't going to be any noticeable differences in multi platform games (aside from online service, motion and voice controls and maybe even the controllers for both platforms this time) alot of next gen is going to come down to software, online gaming and services. Again, the real story will be told once these consoles hit the ground running but who ever controls the software will control the pulse of next generation.

SOFTWARE WILL BE KING!

However, I'm betting Microsoft will dictate the direction of software and features (again) with Sony playing catch-up specifically in this area for the duration of next gen.

And Sony went from 150 million PS2 sold to 80 million Triples sold. So are you purposely missing how Sony isn't dominate anymore they are just another player in the game? And MS went from 24 million Classics to 80 million 360's. And Nintendo crushed them both with the Wii this Gen. Not sure why you are hating on MS so much and diddling the Triple, they both sold equally and are both great systems.

Psssssssst,... He thinks ps3 "dreamcasted" 360 and won 80% of the console market like ps2 had. Just go along with it he'll sleep better.

I see a $500/600 late start PS3 who still got it done vs a highly popular, lower priced 360 that came out a year before it.

What should be stated is what each systems attachmant rate is.....but you don't want to go into those numbers...do you?

Online features as well. One huge thing Microsoft is offering its online gamers is dedicated servers for all multiplayer games. I would rather play a game like cod ghost in 480p res with dedicated servers then the same game with 1080p res with a peer to peer connecrion. Dedicated server for someone like me who plays ALOT of multiplayer and takes it seriously is a huge selling point.

They didn't get anything done. Lost almost have of their market making one bad decision after another. Late start, higher price, full BC to no BC, Dual Shock last gen to DS3, shiny high tech console to flat mechanical. And do we forget the batarange controller. Not to mention flag ship title delays, massive corporate turnover and wasted resources on a underprepared non visioned portable market. Oh and let's not forget Home.

True, but many wanted a bluray player way more than they wanted "teh" cell. The lower price of ps4 will help it more than any other metric next gen.

As far as the batarang controller we don't mention any sony 180s only MS's reversals.

Dedicated servers are going to be huge, no doubt mate! But the ability to switch instantly from game to tv, to movie back to game etc is going to be huge as well (a lot of people dont believe this but they'll see). I will say that the swipe pad on the DS4 looks really useful too, and I'll give a nod to the rumble triggers on the XO. I [almost] wish the XO controller had a swipe pad of some sort, but its not a deal breaker in the slightest. Especially considering the kind of feedback that can be accomplished with the rumble triggers.

Yikes! So true.

But Sony did plow through all of those unfortunate events mate. Gotta give it to them.

And still are kicking ass and taking names with the PS3 and the PS4.

Well news flash COD on PS4 has both bases covered...its 1080p and runs on dedicated servers...

3rd party games have been king and the PS4 thus far is offering the best versions so the software base is covered as well.
