The side quest structure in this game is pretty revolutionary imo.
If a Zelda game had this it would've been heralded as true Nintendo innovation, I mean, they apparently did something amazing by having fire cook apples and burn down trees in Botw according to games media lol

But seriously, it's pretty amazing, I find myself actually completing them instead of just pick them up and finish them 20h later not even remembering how I got them like in every other open world game.
Witcher tried to force you to finish them by limiting how high level you could be to get xp, but that was a s***ty system imo.
Yeah I totally agree. What they have done with the new side quests mechanics is pretty revolutionary. I hope more games adopt this kind of design.

I am happy the game sell well.

I am about 20ish hours in this game & I feel I have experence pretty much what the game wanted to show me & very little things can excite anymore.

I said this a thousand time, most loot games suck at loot, & AC is the norm. Most gears/items loot are stats stick. Most of the skill tree are stick sticks. The runes to sockests are stats stick. And for those that do not know what is a stat stick, it is basically a gear that contain nothing buts stats, like +5 melee damage, +2 range damage.
Don't getme wrong, gpod loot games have stats thats improve ypur characters. They are neccessery for prower progression. Good loot game however balance between gears/add on/skill tree with stats & items that encourage intereresting interaction, synergy, & the way you play. Say a rune that allow a single hand weapon to parry like a shield, or a rune that on a sucessful parry, knock all foes in a 2m radius. Then another weapon rune, where all knocked down enemies take x% fire damage. Then another gear that increase duration of burning, creating interesting synergy.

Also story is super uninteresting. I asked before friends into writing/screenplay. "What is the differences between a story and a series of events?" or another form "What makes a series of events a story?" I posted this questions to everyone here as well. The general answer give is a story must be interesting (or thorught provoking, message) and have a structure (start midle climax end etc).

So far AC story seems like uninteresting series of events.

I agree, and like you wonder why these Ubi devs aren't getting the credit they deserve for Valhalla. I think it's because the Assassin's Creed franchise has gone on for so long and some feel its not as newsworthy given that Valhalla is just the next entry in a long running series. But it ignores the fantastic additions and refinement Valhalla showcases.

At first I thought my excitement came from the Viking presentation. And while that's true I can't ignore the great side mission structure, they feel memorable in this game. And the way the player gets these cool new abilities which encourage exploration. I'd be happy to explore just for a new cool looking piece of armor or weapon but throw in the chance of acquiring a new ability to make my character even more badass will drive me with even more enthusiasm for exploration.
Yeah, and new weapons being more rare to acquire makes it worth more. Words cannot Express how much I love not having to constantly manage my inventory

Yeah UBIs story writers are pretty garbage. I do like Eivor though.

Also best beards in gaming! The actually behave like beards and not some unmoving wire brush stuck to the face!

Lots of bugged out quests for me lol
Also, they have taken away almost all rpg dialogue elements that Odyssey was so successful in implementing... Not sure what I think about that yet.

How far in the game are you? I've come across quite a few multi choice dialogue options that affect the outcome.

And the story is one of the best in the AC franchise for me, it keeps building and getting better and better. Game is buggy asf though.

It's really a mess on all platforms performance wise. This is 100% on UBISOFT.
Agreed. More annoying that Ubi specifically made marketing claims of it running at 4K 60fps on XSX, and it doesn't do either. You'd imagine it would run 15% better than PS5 based on the marketing, not worse. I imagine/hope they're getting hell from Microsoft right now, as I'm assuming they paid for the exclusive marketing.

Also, shame on Microsoft for having crap developer tools at launch. Having an extremely powerful console isn't going to do much if it's garbage to develop for (hello PS3).

Well, with all of these upscaling techniques they can pretty much claim whatever resolutions they want nowadays.....casuals ain't gonna care anyway, they just see the number and that's it.

After binge watching the Last Kingdom and enjoying the cinematography of that show, I have an appreciation for the game's aesthetics. There's a certain beauty to it. Plus I think they've done a good job in capturing the brutality of the combat in it's sounds and looks. I love seeing arms and heads flying all over the place.
I like the story. In fact I think the story is better than Odyssey's.
The game is a slow build but finding books of knowledge opens adds so much more to the combat.

So...I played as female Eivor for the prologue and got the impression they did a bad job with the character, but since I changed to male Eivor I'm going to have to admit that this might be one of the best characters in the ac universe, mostly because of the incredible voice acting by Magnus Bruun. Must be one of the most soothing voices in the world lol

I changed to the female Eivor a few times to see the feel, & I just have to go back to the male one. The body & animation is laterally for male, even the face is a bit ambiguous.

Also am I the only one that thinks male Eivor looks a bit like a younger version of Sir Friendzone from Game of Throne.

I installed this yesterday, but haven't gotten around to playing yet. I'm undecided if I'm gonna be a male or female.

Just like real life.

I noticed the animation is all the same. The women move like the men. Its off-putting. Not sure why they always try to turn women into men.

I need to finish Odyssey to its entirety. Re downloading so I can finish it, the last DLC. In AC Valhalla, Layla looks like a crackhead and I need to know why.

I'm not far into the game yet, but the combat just feels so generic so far. I wish I wouldn't have played Tsushima before this. I don't think I've ever spent so much time changing controls for a game. I HATE using trigger buttons for melee in games. I wish they would've had some sort of preconfigured alternate controls. The game looks a lot better than YT videos I watched. I accidentally started out playing as the woman, but her annoying grunts and voice made me switch pretty quickly.

The game gets better when I focus on the main quests. The 2nd main quests in England are far better than the first one & there are some characters' arc like the King son that at least I can invest with, that at least I give a fk about. I hope the rest of the game is at least this level in character development.

A lot of the "gold" icon stuff are pretty irritating to collect with very little rewards, & always a sore feeling you have a gold icon on an area you cleared. Now, if the god icon is small, & I can't find the "treasure" after a min, I moved on.

I hated the combat at first too. It gets better. I like it better than origins and odessy.

Going from Ghost of Tsushima to Valhalla will take some getting used to. Valhalla combat is sloppy and not as precise as Tsushima. But once you get a few abilities/skills it gets better. It won't be anything as tight as Tsushima but fun none the less, for me at least especially now with my favorite combo being the Hammer & Dagger.

I wish I could lift the fog hanging over the massive skill tree. Its impossible for me to plan a build. Luckily we can reassign skills at no cost so that's good. But I find it mindboggling to hide the skills for a RPG.

The daggers are fun.
Haven't tried the daggers yet. They do look fun. I've been crushing heads with the two handed warhammer and cleaving limbs with the great dane axe. Put a high stun on there and watch those shields get mashed to bits in one hit.

It'll prob get patched, but if you get the ability to dual wield two handed weapons you'll be able to open barred doors by spamming heavy attack on them lol
