Bonus Round: Time up for Xbox one?

I think the Wii U doom and gloom is ridiculous. Even to this point but i can still understand the doubt. The Xbox One doom and gloom? It's absolutely baffling. This is Microsoft we're talking about. You know, the company that consistently puts out the biggest blockbuster games this industry has to offer. We're in good hands.
This is Nintendo's worse selling system ever, and they have what support? Nintendo Wii U is pretty much done unless they take out the pad, hit a 200 price tag (re launch) and have a ton of amazing support that day (new zelda, wave race, some third party support) that could work, other wise it is done.

The cheer leaders are off the court, your alone cheering to the seats.

Oh yeah, i'm totally cheerleading for Nintendo. Guy's like you are the worst posters. If you're not trolling one console, it's the other. Nintendo's going to be fine and so is Microsoft. Just shut up and enjoy the games.

Last gen you were saying Sony was doomed and you've even made a thread about how Sony botched the launch of the PS4 because it doesn't have any games that you like at the moment. So which is it Jackie? Is Microsoft doomed, or is it Sony, or is it Nintendo? Cause you can't have all three.

Look at what happened last gen, MS had to dominate Sony in NA (had a 14-15 million sales lead) and also start selling the machine a year earlier as well as ALWAYS having a lower priced option just to end up basically selling the same amount of consoles globally. The way it looks now it's hard to see MS having any kind of lead like that in NA again so while it's silly for anyone to pretend the X1 is doomed it's very hard to see them being number one globally this new gen.

Time up for Xbox One!? If it said Wii U instead of XBO they would have a point last time I checked XBO is the fastest selling Xbox console MS has made.
So the article is dumb.

Did being number 1 or 2 stop Sony from having a good platform? Excellent games? There's always room for alternatives. Hell, Sony needs this more than Microsoft does at this point. We're 4 months in, let's just paaaaaaaaaause.

I mean holy hell hahaha.

these are GAME consoles aren't they?

The "these are game consoles" argument lol. These are houses, whether they're made out of logs, brick, etc. These are cars, whether they run on gasoline, electricity, etc. These are.. fill in the blanks. Why bother advancing technology any further, right?

Why is it such a big deal that the Xbox One is an entertainment box and a gaming machine? How many times does Microsoft have to say the focus is the games before you realize that just might really be their focus? If you can get more people to buy your product, why wouldn't you?

Go cry somewhere else already. I mean, really. You get upset at me for being positive about the consoles yet you're whining about how the One isn't enough of a gaming machine for you. Get over it.

Exactly, we are only 4 months in to a 5 to 10 year life cycle. What makes it worse is all this doom and gloom on MS, yet they have sold 4 million consoles. People can argue sold to retail and sold to consumers, but does it matter ? MS have already sold 4 million. A 2 Million Gap is nothing, MS could make that up when releasing in the other 25 territories.

They'll make up at least half that gap after Titanfall. It's already sold 1 million Xbox Ones, who knows how many more it'll sell. Funny that the gaming machine that is supposedly the most anti-gaming is the console that will have the best game this year. Got to love it.

Honestly, I doubt it. I mean Sony will still sell consoles during that time and Infamous, I think, Will sell plenty of PS4's too. I also disagree on best game this year, yes, Titanfall is awesome, but many awesome games are coming this year.

Until that time though....Titanfall may just be the game of the year. In fact, Im going to go out on a limb and say it will grab half of a dozen nods for game of the year, right now.

That was an entertaining watch despite the incendiary title.

I think stories of Xbox's demise are greatly exaggerated. It has challenges to overcome, yes, but Microsoft are in a much, much, much better position than, say, Nintendo are with the Wii U.

The mistakes from the reveal are well documented but I think Microsoft have worked incredibly quickly to change approach. If you think they are trouble now, could you imagine the state of play if they had stuck with the original plans?

Microsoft have invested in exclusives and I think that was a smart move. The game library for Xbox One is very strong despite that it is only a few months old. The 'TV TV TV sports' thing may have given the wrong impression that gamers had been left behind but I definitely don't think that is the case at all.

They have one main thing to tackle and that is price.

As soon as it was revealed that their main competitor was $100/€100/£75 cheaper they must have known that the number one position, from the start at least, was out of their reach. The US and UK markets are very important and if the Titanfall bundle/UK price cut doesn't work then Microsoft will try something else and then something else and then something else that will. Microsoft will not sit idly by and get crushed by PS4, they simply will not allow that to happen as there is too much money riding on it. Titanfall is being held up as this 'all or nothing' release that will either save Xbox One or condemn it forever and I think that mindset is incredibly short sighted and misjudged. If Sony can recover from a much worse position with PS3 then Microsoft can become much stronger from where they are now but it takes more than one tent pole release.

As for Kinect, I think they will keep it with every system sold unless they get absolutely demolished in worldwide sales. Having a SKU without it is always an option but I think they will try everything else first before it comes to that. It will be very much a 'last resort' move if it happens at all. It is a luxury in the box at the moment, a very cool piece of kit that needs much more compelling applications and software.

This is a really interesting and exciting time for the industry.

Everyone have their opinions, whether a price drop, kinect drop, a ticket to Taylor Swift concert in every xbox, or nothing need to be done.

There is however, no need to get personal, or to call people stupid or some other names, just because they do not share your opinions. Just saying.

If you disagree with someone, explain why so, in a civil manner, towards the point made, not to the person who made the point, like you will in real life (unless you are also go around calling people they are dumb, when they disagree with you, then I rest my case).

I still laugh every single time I see Titanfall brought up as some holy grail savior for the XB1. Especially considering that it's highly likely that the XB1 will see the lowest sales numbers of that particular game with X360 then PC well in front of it.

I laugh every single time I see stories like this one about the X1 being doomed 4 whole months in. How ridiculous this all is. If there were any truth to it, we wouldn't even have a PS4 to compare it to, because Sony should have shriveled up and died soon after the PS3's release. But no, they mounted a very respectable comeback from those early days, didn't they?

The title is misleading, if you watch the video, its just discussing the lead Sony have, & what MS can do to brideg the gap. Hardly Doom.
Beside, doesn't it make sense to try to close the gap when its still early, & not as wide, then when the gap is massive after say a year?

Depends. What does it cost them ? does it cost them profit ? does it cost them a possible consumer demographic ? does it cost them individualism ? every action has a reaction, and who is to say taking away Kinect and getting a $400 rice point is enough ? Maybe the price is irrelevant and it is the negative news of power and technical aspects that is making the big difference.

Which game is that....TF? You do know that's purely opinionated, right?
Let's not even get into how the majority of console gamers are not even fans of this kind of game. Consider that CoD fans only amount to roughly 10-12% of 360 owners and other shooters an even less percentage (Halo, Gears, etc).

Yeah, it's just a sensationalist headline. I didn't realize that myself, until I watched the video, which is a fairly reasonable discussion about sales and strategy.

Maybe maybe not. I think the truth is somehere in between.

I am not commenting that everything the video said are correct, I personally think some of the point made are quite reasonable, like showing off more games, to show Kinect capability. Some points, maybe not completely agreed. We can agree to disagree, thats not an issue.

The underlining point I wanted to made is that the video isn't about MS being doomed with XBOX one, like some people think (wonder if they even watch the video), but about what MS can maybe do better.

Saying that its better to take action early when a gap is there, then later when it potiential widen further, is purely my own opinion. Its ok to diagree (though I find it hard to argue against the logic, unless they are more concern of profit per xbox, than selling more, & gain profit from games & services).

Off topic, but have you tried Hawken? If so, thoughts?

Patcher is such an idiot. In the US, PS4s were really hard to find in December, so guess what? They didn't sell. People couldn't find them. Sony got them out for January, and people bought them, causing the numbers to spike. X1 was quite easy to find in December, so guess what? They sold well in December, and by the time January rolled around, everyone who wanted one had one.

Played it a few nights and it's not bad. It's just slower than I'd hoped. It has a dodge mechanic exactly like unreal tournament but you move so slow it rarely makes a difference. I keep meaning to try it again as it's been a few months and perhaps they've changed enough to interest me but from what I played several months ago it's largely forgettable.

If February NPD comes out and it's comparable to January's, are you going to say people who didn't get them in January caused the "spike" again?

I think it's pretty easy to understand. The PS4 is still selling out virtually everywhere, the Xbox One isn't. This is the main reason for the sales difference in January. The demand is still high for the PS4 where as the Xbox One's supply has already reached its demand.
