Except that time MS published Shenmue 2 here.

There was also a time when I didn't loathe Microsoft's direction as much as I do now. Today's Microsoft is pretty different than the early 2000's MS. Companies do shift strategies and focus from time to time.

Its nice of Sony to get Shenmue 3 some stage space to get it off the ground. But if they really believed in it wouldn't have been kickstarted.

No. It's not black and white. No one believed in the Shenmue franchise enough to get a 3rd installment off the ground for the past 15 years. Sony doesn't think Shenmue III will be the next greatest thing, but they do believe in it enough to get off the ground. No one else can say that. Microsoft can't say that. Sega can't say that. EA can't say that. Nintendo can't say that.

Sony...Sony can say that.

Crackdown is not a dudebro game. Yes, it is a third-person shooter. But this game is way too niche and unpopular to be called a dudebro game. It should just be called the "failed dudebro experiment of year 2XXX." R.I.P. Crackdown. You'll live on in list wars and in our hearts!

In my opinion "Dude bro" encapsulates a lot of things.

Sales, is not such a thing.

Spec Ops the Line clearly had a dude bro aesthetic. It didn't perform well but that doesn't negate the aesthetic dude bro nature of the game.

Dude bro, to me, is guns, muscles, testosterone, and explosions.

To me, Crackdown 3 is almost the quintessential dude bro game.

Shenmue III will bomb. Quote me.

Gamers are a fickle breed. They ask and beg for certain games, innovations, etc. When they actually get it, they reject it and avoid it like the plague.

That is sort of true but the people who were demanding it are a vocal minority. Its not like there are millions of people asking for it.

It will probably do well enough but I don't think anyone thinks its going to be a big hit.

And if it doesn't even launch Sony can say sorry backers you lost your money. I would gained mad respect for Sony if they funded it all themselves but come on its sad to see a billion dollar company let their users risk losing their own money for potentially nothing. It is innovative I guess, I can see why you'd like that.

Lol. Dismissing facts as usual. The largest demographic are responsible for, get this, the highest grossing movies, because, ya know, maths. Lowest demographics can't make highest grossing movies, because, ya know, maths.

No, it's not a dismissal of facts. It's an interpretation of facts that I participate in and you fail to do.

1. Jurassic World
2. Avengers: Age of Ultron
3. Inside Out
4. Furious 7
5. Minions
6. Cinderella
7. Mission Impossible: Rogue Agent
8. Pitch Perfect 2
9. Ant Man
10. Home

Those are the top 10 grossing movies of this year. Go back each year and you'll see a list nearly identical to this. (3 or so childrens movies, a couple of female oriented movies, maybe a comedy, and the rest filled out with droll, formulaic action movies with lots of punching and explosions) So you're telling me that these movies, which appeal to a certain audience, are getting made for, and attended by, 18 - 39 year old people?

Or could it be that everyone in the 13 - 19 year old demographic sees these movies and a percentage of the 40 - 49 year old audience sees these films and that combination creates the box office totals wee see?

Maybe no one in the 13 - 19 year old demographic sees Boyhood, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Birdman, Whiplash, Gone Girl etc... and a percentage of the 40 - 49 year old audience sees them?

Maybe it's time we look at the facts and start interpreting them a little bit?

See backwards compatibility. I'd say there's plenty enough demand for a feature to play last gen games (I'm included in that number) but I'm surprised by how many are actually just over last gen completely. Now imagine gamers going back to an over two decade old game regardless if it's a continuation. Kind of loses its charm when you look at it.

I can see the novelty in doing something like Shenmue, but I personally don't believe gamers are as excited to play the last installment as the think they are. In fact, I'd bet the farm on it.

Bombed like Alan Wake? s*** back in the days, everyone, including myself, at TXB straight called out Heavy Rain to bomb and nope it didn't lol.

Fans of the series probably are excited there just aren't that many of them.

So I hear Microsoft is releasing more exclusives in 2016 than they are in 2015. Sounds like Microsoft and Sony share at least that much in common. :p

Microsoft's flagship exclusive franchise:
Halo:
1080p MP
Dedicated, world-wide Azure cloud servers
60FPS locked

Sony's flagship exclusive franchise:
Uncharted:
900p MP
No dedicated servers (P2P)
Frame rate? They say 60, but we'll see how stable that is...

It's a great time to be an Xboxer.

Funny I thought resolution didn't matter. Guess it does today. Didn't get the memo.

Is it 1080P?

I thought Halo 5 used Dynamic resolution scaling across the SP and MP. So calling it 1080P MP is a bit far fetched.

Target.

We'll see when it ships.

Not sure if it's true, but I also heard TLOU and other Uncharted MP experiences only run at 15 ticks/metronome per second... Halo 5 runs at a flawless 60 ticks/metronome, and on dedicated cloud servers all over the world for minimal latency.

I didn't realize we were pummeling Sony so badly with regards to MP quality...

Not far fetched at all. MP runs at 1080p the vast majority of the time, and when resolution dynamically shifts, you'll never even notice it. Not a frame drops. It's flawless.

So, no, not far fetched at all. It's gorgeous.

I have read on the digital foundry review that the game is RARELY at 1080p. Is that for single player?

It is far fetched when the resolution is constantly changing. Sure, a lot of the time you will not notice it, but that doesn't = 1080P MP. Especially when it can go as low as 810P.

Those LOD and shadow pop ins maybe gorgeous, but a 1080P game this is not.

I am not knocking Halo 5 for using such methods. I applaud it actually, but lets keep things real and not go all ignorant when trying to pointlessly compare games.

I assume there will be some rage for UC4 MP only being 900p...right? right??
