Official Ryse Discussion Thread

Once developers start using the power of the cloud on Xbox One, it will be a generation ahead of the PS4.

From what I hear the owner is a Sony fan and if you bad mouth them its a ban. Stick up for MS? Ban and so on. Think a fair few from here have been banned over stuff like that.

Let's not try to make this a GAF thread - but honestly, the notion that GAF is very pro Sony is true. And while I have no problem with the majority of the users being in the Sony boat I really have a problem with the mods there.

As a constant reader I basically know the people that flood the Xbox threads with one objective only (the same people that never ever had anything else to say than pure hate) and yet there's no consequence whatsoever. On the other hand however mods are quick to hunt down those Xbox loyalists.

Sry for th OT but I simply can't stand injustice.

There are two problems with PS4 fans talking crap about x1 because of ryse running at 900p

1. They are assuming all PS4 launch games are running at a native 1080p, which has not been confirmed.
2. Ryse is still one of the best looking if not the BEST looking next gen titles running at 900p or not

PS4 titles are not all native 1080p and many are running only 30fps.

"The arena demo was a great way to showpiece the strong points of the game: its combat and its visuals, rather than the somewhat weak story that was showcased in the earlier demo. Enemies felt distinct, you were given a lot of toys to play with, and the "boss battle" I experienced was challenging, but not frustrating. At the end of the demo, I hungered for more, which is definitely a good sign. I was quite thoroughly amused."

This game does look great. Hope it sells well and continue to grow bigger and deeper story.

I agree, I hope it does well. There is talk that a sequel would be done in medieval times. Im interested in the gladiator time of Rome, so Ryse is on my buy list. Even for a 900p game it is absolutely beautiful.

I really want Ryse to be succesful. Another exclusive IP to add to an already outstanding lineup. Hopefully it is, I know I'm buying it Day One.

I wanna slice those evil doers, lick their blood of my blade, and give them a face palm and push them off my blade with my Romon boot. Look to the sky, stare at the gods and shout Vae Victus! ala (Legacy of Kain)
Game of the forever baby. Day One.

Why would a developer waste resources trying to hit some arbitrary benchmark when the vast majority of people couldn't tell the difference any ways? As a new IP they should be focusing on making this game fun and avoid just being labeled another hack and slash game. I mean they have an opportunity to fill the God of War void on the Xbox brand they should focus on making the gameplay as awesome as we hope. There's so much potential for greatness and also for just mediocrity.

Yep and this game actually proves that. No one was speculating it wasn't 1080p despite all the footage released and the only reason we know is because someone from MS told us.

Also MS and Sony never came out saying all next gen games would be 1080p/60FPS.

I checked out the video at the dashboard last night and it was the same video from E3. After now I got all the info and understand how the game works, I watched the E3 I see it much different then before.

Anybody else watched it as well?

I got a chance to go hands on with Ryse today. Unfortunately there was no campaign and we could only play the co-op multiplayer. You go as a pair (or they paired you up) and you get to play the co-op gladiator missions. The good news is there is absolutely no QTE. When you are fighting well and getting your strikes, the skull icon appears for an execution. At this point you can choose to feel epic and press B for an execution bonus move or simply ignore it. Obviously you want to execute as it spurs up the crowd and your XP. The combat is engaging and the enemies are no pacifists, it can actually get hard and they will surround you. I also soon found out don't go "Rambo", you will be quickly surrounded and die. You will do better if you play as a team with your buddy and watch each others backs.

The moves are simple - weapon attack, hard weapon attack, shield attack and hard shield attack and defence. You also have your god powers and can pickup and throw spears (or use stationary weapons). Don't expect a street fighter level button combos. This is not how the game is meant to be played. The game is not a 1 vs 1 combat but 1 vs many. You don't have time pulling off fancy button combos on one enemy. When I concentrated on one guy I usually got engulfed. The combat is about managing the multiple enemies who are attacking you. Its about how well you time your strikes and defend. For example, I heavy strike the enemy in the front, defend the rear, a shield strike at the flanks back to guy in front e.t.c and you build up for the executions. If you do it right you will have multiple executions that will make you feel like a Boss.

Now for the bad, I can't speak for the campaign but the multi-player did feel a bit "clunky" and some visual downgrade (compared to SP). I don't know why the disparity between the campaign and mp (SP looked more demanding), perhaps they are done by different teams? I hope they polish it so that the cross over from playing the single player to multi-player is not "disconnected". I also found the visual cues needs improving, sometimes its not completely obvious what you have to do. In any case I am interested in this game and if they polish up the MP it would be a blast "horde like" experience to play with your friends. As very little is known about the SP, I hope it will have a very engaging story and they are keeping it tightly wrapped.

The MP graphics are worse because the performance capture technology used for the single player experience wasn't used. Not to mention Ruffian was rumored to be doing the multiplayer about a year ago.

Thanks for the info @TheGeneral! Sounds like they have the combat down, so that's one less thing to worry about. I'm hoping that they aren't saying anything about the campaign because it's going to be epic and they don't want to give anything away.

I'm impressed with this game, I have been since the unveiling.

Is there any word on the story, are we following a certain Legion on campaigns through the British Isles or maybe the Germanic campaigns?

Why would a developer waste resources trying to hit some arbitrary benchmark when the vast majority of people couldn't tell the difference.
but it's not about the vast majority. it's about the fanboys that plague forums and have yet another stick to add to there childish argument.

there latest stick will be the downgade in triangles fron 150k to under 90k.

Ryse: Son of Rome's multiplayer wasn't always limited to that customisable co-op mode - it once had competitive multiplayer, as revealed by Crytek producer Mike Read to Polygon.
