My guess is this was purposely done to guarantee a sale of the game in order to profit on the digital unit. I told you, if Sony wasn't breaking even, then they were losing a very, very small amount on the digital SKU. By selling an all digital game, a guaranteed system seller, they would recoup that loss as if it never existed while still having a competitive SKU to Microsoft's Series S. So this here is not surprising......that is unless you really wanted to pay a much higher price on the digital SKU.

From where I am standing, they had to strike a balance somewhere, and this is that balance rather than being arrogant while relying solely on brand, alone with a wide price margin to separate the SKU while in direct competition with Microsoft's budget SKU. It would be PS3 all over again.

Buying digital edition is lost long term unless you are the the best that only but game full price at Lauch and never sell or exchange games.

I was looking at bargain bin, and games but like red dead 2 ( new)pa4 already selling 19€ . You be lucky to get this digitally even at promotion.

I am mainly a pc gamer, while digital games are very good when Discount, many very old games still selling at full price when not on discount on steam while you can get new or use physical copy at 1/5 or less the price at GameStop or local electronic store.

Nah, besides trying to make a digital sale, the remastered version is probably the outcome of insomniac’s test bed for familiarizing and I lost where I was going with that lol

but seriously, it doesn’t matter if Sony is losing money on the ps5 digital, they’ll make up for it as being the only place to purchase said game through their store...well, besides bb, Amazon and others selling the digital code. But that goes for all games released for the ps5d

The thing that caught my eye about this game was not the fact that it was a horror FPS, but the fact that it utilized the DualSense controller in a very unique way where it places the player into that experience. This is the case with a lot of IPs.

I told you, when using the Sixaxis without the rumble, the game didn't feel the same anymore. I believe it will be the case with the DualSense for those games that take advantage of it. Sony seems to be making it where even if a multi plat ends up on another platform, the experience will be downgraded as far as how it plays.

The chances of no one playing Spider-Man is very small as opposed to some of the other games dispite how great they may be. Sony is basically making sure a game gets purchased almost instantly. I jusf don't see anyone doing this if you could upgrade that experience for free.

it’s more like recouping lossses for time spent to develop it. They should just sell one sku if they want to guarantee a purchase. I’m sure it’ll be a big seller, the bundle, on the ps5d but, I feel, the expansion alone will be the bigger seller.

The problem is you're remastering a game from half a generation ago. I already played this on PS4 Pro. Charging $50 for the Miles game alone that isn't going to be very long should include the base game. I'm sure IGN and Kotaku will be all over this... oh wait, no, they won't.

The hypocrisy is what gets me more than anything but

Do multiple people use your account to post?

Anyway, the digital price issuee was brought up last gen ,and on Xbox atleast, got addressed and changed fairly well. Sales with high discounts happen often and last a good amount of time.

Some believe I mastered the ancient zen art of splitting into a different consciousness.

I do post often using different devices & locations, & urgency & there is a disparity depends on the urgency, location, and device used(phone tended to be worst).

The last post was done quickly just before my outdoor group training started.

A Narrative Of Sony And PS5 As ‘Anti-Consumer’ Is Starting To Take Shape

It goes without saying that Sony is in a strong position heading into this next console generation. They outsold the Xbox 2:1 last generation and some analysts predict they’ll do the same this time around with the PS5 versus the various Xbox Series models. Everyone expects Sony will continue to have rock solid first party releases this coming generation and yet…something seems to have shifted the past few weeks.

All Microsoft’s efforts to paint themselves as “pro-consumer” are starting to bear fruit, while Sony, staying with the industry standards or even moving in the opposite direction, is starting to feel a little “anti-consumer” to some potential players in contrast.

What am I talking about? A number of issues.

The thing that set this off most recently was Sony and Insomniac detailing the upcoming release of Spider-Man: Miles Morales which can be bundled with a PS5 remaster of the original Spider-Man. But unlike Xbox and its Smart Delivery upgrades, free upgrades of last gen games to next gen, that is not the case with Spider-Man, which does not have a free or even cheap upgrade path for PS5 as part of this bundle. Try and parse this out:

Xbox has seen how wacky this situation is, and has taken to memeing to dunk on Sony for all this confusion:

That’s…pretty funny, and has echoes of the famous “here’s how you share used games on PlayStation” video that Sony made in 2013 to embarrass Xbox and its confusing disc rights policies.

It isn’t just this though. These issues just keep adding up:
PlayStation fans who were “proud” that Sony was concentrating on actual generations by making games specifically for PS5 are now annoyed after Sony revealed that both Miles Morales and Horizon Forbidden West are also coming to PS4.

Sony stated that some of their first party games in the future would be priced as high as $70. This is in contrast to Microsoft offering all its first party games (and soon enough, all its Bethesda games) as part of a Game Pass subscription.

Sony shows little interest in adding its new first party games to its own version of Game Pass (technically PS Now at the moment), saying they’re too expensive to make to justify that. Meanwhile, Xbox Game Pass subscriptions have increased 50% over the summer, and Microsoft continues offering all its new games on it in addition to releasing its games on PC at the same time, something Sony has not done until years later for some titles, if at all.

There are few clear upgrade paths for recent Sony hits. Sony is giving away a bunch of high profile PS4 games as part of PS Plus when PS5 launches, and yet “next gen” versions of games like The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima have not been announced. And when they are announced, given what’s happened with Spider-Man, they’re not expected to be free or cheap upgrades, but probably entirely new paid releases in some form. Again, the opposite of Xbox’s Smart Delivery.

This is Sony’s current problem. It’s not that the PS5 isn’t attractive in terms of features and price, or that Sony’s games aren’t going to continue to be good. But at a certain point, all of Microsoft’s programs and features and subscriptions full of brand new games are going to add up and equal an overall “next gen experience” that Sony is currently not building, and seems to have no interest in building. Xbox is providing tremendous value for players to stay in its ecosystem, while it’s starting to feel like Sony is banking on the loyalty of its fans to put up with things like paying twice for remasters or $70 for brand new games. Maybe that gamble will work, but I can feel many players starting to get frustrated, given the clear alternatives Xbox is offering which Sony is not even attempting to match.

Semantics.

No. It's a clear difference.

Most of those things are minor, and hardly anti-consumer, except for the XBL paywall. But is PS Plus free?

Neither myself nor anyone else here said the X launch will be perfect, and I agree with most of those things.

But that’s not the point of the article. Sony has made very little effort to be pro-consumer. Pay for upgrades, pay more for some games, and they have nothing like game pass, which like it or not, is a fantastic value.

Honest q, as a Sony fan, wouldn’t you like them to be doing just a bit more for you? They’re basically saying ‘we’re not changing because we know you’ll still pay.’

It’s just more obvious now, because MS has made so many pro-consumer moves. It looks bad in comparison.

So if you disagree, just debate each point in the article (with facts of course).

He left out the media not pointing out how few Series S consoles were being made available compared to Series X, every site brought that up when it came to the two PS5 models.

As far as Sony, just because MS is choosing to do some things doesn't mean Sony has to follow suit, remember MS is in a position where they have to go further to try to attract customers because doing what they've been doing hasn't gotten the job done.

Many of the people upset about Spider-Man gladly bought TLOU remastered, the various god of war collections, COD, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Master Chief collection and Fable remasters even if they owned the original versions of the games etc. Spider-Man is 2 years old and they went back and made new assets, scanned actors again, improved the lighting, character models, added ray tracing etc it's not like The Witcher where they can just grab assets they had for the PC version and convert them over plus and this is likely the biggest issue the character is licensed and I'm sure Marvel wants a cut of every copy of the game sold.

Game pass isn't consumer friendly it's MS's way of trying to make money and they are in the early phase, the price will go up as more content makes it's way to the service. Sony offers PSNow which while streaming only for anything older than PS4 titles offers more games to choose from than GP they just don't push it the same way because it doesn't make sense for their audience, people actually buy their games.

The higher price of games, have we actually seen MS show off a true next gen game yet? who knows what'll happen in a couple of years when they finally have some ready? The bottom line is Sony needs PlayStation to make money they can't lose it or cut off a ton of potential revenue and make it up in other places the way MS can.

It does. But so what.
The only thing that makes it look bad is the aliasing. It looks like Alien Isolation which was a great game.

I just think it's funny they were trashing it up until the studio decided to do a simultaneous release that's all. It could be a good game, was never very interested in it one way or the other but I hope it's good.
