Game Pass has become a fundamental part of Microsoft's identity going forward, and it's become a huge success on Android devices (through xCloud) and Windows 10 PC. Do you want to see it expand to Nintendo and PlayStation platforms? Is it "them" that is keeping the service from launching there, or are there any other challenges in regards to that?

I think for us it's all about priority, and reaching more players. So we went to PC first after Xbox, because there's just so many players there, globally, that don't own an Xbox, that we could go reach. We went to mobile next because there's a billion Android phones on the planet. It's significantly larger than any console player base. We still have iOS to go after, we will come to iOS at some point. We're still working on some of our technology on PC for larger screens in terms of streaming, and getting to iOS, and I think once we get through that, we look at what the other options are. There's smart TV's out there, there's Chromebooks out there, there's FireTV out there, there's a lot of discussions we would have, we would prioritize it based on where we would find the most new players, that we could naturally bring content to. I love the Switch, I love PlayStation, honestly, I think they've done an amazing job as being a part of this industry. I'm not sure that those are the next big set of users for us, but we could be open to those discussions.

Soooo Microsoft wants Halo on Sony's system. Interesting... Makes me think about those acquisitions now.

Actually he did. Why else would he care about having a chat with them about it? It seems he's trying to Reeeeeeeaach some more users not on the other platforms.

technically he did and didn’t, indirectly but not exactly to the point where anyone can quote him verbatim stating it exactly as clear evidence or receipts shown: he wants gamer to have access no matter the device.

Sony, Nintendo and google will all say no, but that won’t stop them, or others, once there’s a client app that allows use via any web browser, which almost any internet capable device. It’s like playing my switch or ps4 games on my Xbox through it’s hdmi pass through in order to quickly jump between devices.

I was thinking EA Access or Hulu. Although you have said console, you have their application if ever you want to join and boot up a few games, which sounds nice.

He said that's not on their plate right now, but he's open to it in the future... A big DUH! from me. Of course, he's open to having Xbox on all platforms. I'm surprised that this could actually be a surprise to anyone. What I'm saying, is that this is a far cry from the statement that "Microsoft wants Halo on Sony's system". They are open to xCloud on everything, that includes all phones, tablets, computers, streaming devices, and yes, consoles. There's already been a lot more said in a recent interview. Xbox isn't selling out, they are playing a completely different game. Currently, I'll take actual next gen hardware for $500, Alex!

Edit: and I think that we all know that Sony wouldn't let this happen. They wouldn't even allow Hulu Live on PlayStation until PS VUE was axed. Just saying...

It does look good. But i couldn't help noticing the two players with identical movements during the warmups. Lol
Yeah I saw that too, I hate when I see that in games lol. It does look nice and that load from the select screen to the game was basically back to cartridge speeds.

Let us take this line of logic to the conclusion.

Sony allows Microsoft to put GamePass on PS5.

Microsoft sells all its first party games on GamePass but those first party games on the XBOX consoles are far cheaper than the offerings they are offering on the PS5. There is no reason to believe Microsoft would price all their exclusives the same on Xbox GamePass vs a hypothetical PS5 GamePass. Why? Because then there would be no reason to buy it on Xbox at all/ buy the console...(this coincidentally is the fundamental issue with people thinking future Bethesda Games are going to appear on the PS5....they won't but that is a different conversation.)

Microsoft wins the above scenario because they are making more money and at the same time charging PS players more.

Vs

Microsoft keeps all its main exclusive games on PC/Xbox GamePass and makes more money in the long run due to people buying the console/investing in the PC/Xbox ecosystem because of said exclusives.

Either way Microsoft makes money. Now....out of those 2 scenarios where does the benefit to Sony fall into play?

If you believe Spencer it's not about selling hardware it's about subs, which really doesn't make sense unless you plan on putting that service on as many platforms as possible otherwise hardware sales will drive your sub numbers. If Sony allowed GP on PS5 (which they wouldn't) what would be in it for them? Most PlayStation owners don't care about Halo or Gears, those that do own both consoles already, it really doesn't benefit Sony to even entertain the thought of GP on PS5 especially since a large percentage of GP games are OG xbox and 360 games which wouldn't work on their platform anyway and the rest are old games you've probably already played if you were interested.

If Sony doesn’t perceive Game Pass as a threat then why not allow it then? My guess it’s because they do and it threatens to disrupt their business model.

To be clear, the conversation directed at Spencer was foggy at best, but Gamepass through xCloud was what they were talking about, and that's the only logical way to get Gamepass on Switch, let alone PlayStation. There's no way they are talking about licensing and porting all of their games over for native play on those devices. It would be a logistical nightmare for all parties involved to do so. I realize that the 2 things are sort of merging in a way, but they are still completely different animals. I think that people are getting legitimately confused here.

It's not that large a percentage of og xbox and 360 games, it's a pretty large percentage of indies though which is pretty cool since a lot of gamers wouldn't really bother and gives people the option to easily try it out, not to mention all first party titles and games people might have missed or waiting for a price drop and ends up on the service.

I can't see it on the PS5 though, Sony have a loyal fanbase that will keep following them no matter what happens with stronger sales etc. I can see it landing on nintendo and stadia platforms in some way or another.

Ok, i should probably have clarified myself earlier.

When I said Game Pass, i was referring to it as a streaming service since Microsoft has incorporated Xcloud into the service. I wasn't referring to downloads. With PlayStation Now, although you can also download and stream games, there is no Xcloud or Game Pass version of the two. It is simply PlayStation Now regardless of what you are doing.

Now that we are clear on that, since Phil seems to want Game Pass on everything, including him thinking about his competitors' consoles, by having an app where those games can be streamed on those devices keeps those games in his ecosystem as they are rented out every place else is what it sounds like he's trying to do.

Why would he do this? Obviously to make more money and expand Xcloud like that of Hulu. How would this benefit Sony? They would have more options on their hardware including their exclusives, obviously. How would this affect PlayStation Now? Well Sony isn't trying to become XCloud to begin with, hence the reason they aren't releasing their games on PS Now date and date. If I were to guess, they may use the platform for indies and BC rather than AAA content.

Now, do I care whether this happens or not? No really. I mean, I think the concept is neat and pretty much resembles EA Access, but for the most part, I'm just reading Phil's statement there, and he obviously wants to expand what he has regardless of where it goes.
