To be clear, the conversation directed at Spencer was foggy at best, but Gamepass through xCloud was what they were talking about, and that's the only logical way to get Gamepass on Switch, let alone PlayStation. There's no way they are talking about licensing and porting all of their games over for native play on those devices. It would be a logistical nightmare for all parties involved to do so. I realize that the 2 things are sort of merging in a way, but they are still completely different animals. I think that people are getting legitimately confused here.
When it comes to GP through xcloud they aren't going to bother trying to do anything with the other consoles it'll just be a controller that comes with a stick that plugs directly into tv's, purely streaming. I still don't think that's going to be big but it won't hurt them to try.

He said that's not on their plate right now, but he's open to it in the future... A big DUH! from me. Of course, he's open to having Xbox on all platforms. I'm surprised that this could actually be a surprise to anyone. What I'm saying, is that this is a far cry from the statement that "Microsoft wants Halo on Sony's system". They are open to xCloud on everything, that includes all phones, tablets, computers, streaming devices, and yes, consoles. There's already been a lot more said in a recent interview. Xbox isn't selling out, they are playing a completely different game. Currently, I'll take actual next gen hardware for $500, Alex!

Edit: and I think that we all know that Sony wouldn't let this happen. They wouldn't even allow Hulu Live on PlayStation until PS VUE was axed. Just saying...
Key word is right now, which means he's been giving it some thought and has considered the possibility. But as of now, he is focused on the current task at hand.

Mindcraft is already on Sony's system, Sony is using Azure for their PS5 and Sony is doing cross play with Microsoft games. Why Phil would stop there is a good question.

If you believe Spencer it's not about selling hardware it's about subs, which really doesn't make sense unless you plan on putting that service on as many platforms as possible otherwise hardware sales will drive your sub numbers. If Sony allowed GP on PS5 (which they wouldn't) what would be in it for them? Most PlayStation owners don't care about Halo or Gears, those that do own both consoles already, it really doesn't benefit Sony to even entertain the thought of GP on PS5 especially since a large percentage of GP games are OG xbox and 360 games which wouldn't work on their platform anyway and the rest are old games you've probably already played if you were interested.
Well if they feel their marketshare is in danger and if Sony is doing it they are getting a cut of subs. No way it would happen otherwise while possibly demanding game pass it limited to just Microsoft games.

Definitely nothing that will happen anytime soon though

I image as long as they are making a profit, market share is secondary. They still command a sizable chunk of it. Fanboys care more about being number 1. MS wants to make money.

Can people stop with the "they don't care about selling hardware" mis-quote?
I agree. Last month Phil said (and I quoted it here) that the Xbox console is the foundation and core of their gaming business.

Right but if Sony felt like allowing it makes them more money they would be willing

And we know Microsoft is willing because Spencer has said so more than once

Maybe that's the idea. Repeat enough time, & people think that is a fact. Oldest & still most effective way to spread misinformation.

XSS/X only console with full RDNA 2 architecture

"Xbox Series X|S are the only next-generation consoles with full hardware support for all the RDNA 2 capabilities AMD showcased today."

"In our quest to put gamers and developers first we chose to wait for the most advanced technology from our partners at AMD before finalizing our architecture. Now, with the upcoming release of Xbox Series X|S and the new AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series GPUs, developers have a common set of next-generation tools and performance capabilities that will empower them to deliver transformative gaming experiences across both console and PC."
