No I am not ok that I can't play dated PS1,PS2 and PS3 games.
You wouldn't want to play them as they were years ago on PS5, you would want enhancements and this is because of what XB is doing so they deserve mention.
Sony's method isn't as good as MS but it's better than what PS2 and PS3 did.

Nope. And I had problems then with their BC and voiced it. It's such a dumb oversight and I'm not going to sit here and make excuses for their laziness.
PS4 isn't strong enough to play PS3.
Also Sony sent the message with PS4 that BC isn't important.
However with PS5 they listened to consumers who wanted to play/keep there PS4 library and brought BC back but this time did it better than ever as many games are getting enhanced unlike the past methods.
That has nothing to do with the discussion lol and honestly I'd rather buy a remake like Demon's Souls than play a BC version that looks like crap or be asked to pay for a remaster like this with minimal work done on it. BC on Xbox is done better than it is on PS5 that's for sure I don't think anyone is denying that but people trying to pretend that BC games running differently have anything to do with the capabilities new machines have to play games that are made specifically for them is silly.
I do have to ask what you mean by them trying to get people to double dip for PS4 games? the console is backwards compatible they aren't asking people to double dip.

This is why Sony can sell remasters like gangbusters. A sucker born every minute.
I think the rise of digital purchasing as well as AMD supplying the components for the PS4 and PS5 helped a lot in making this something they were interested in doing.
It's not just about BC. I buy the Xbox version and it gets enhancements anyways but it also gets the series X upgrades for Free. No oh you bought it on PS4? Cool now buy it again if you want the PS5 version.
Demon's Souls wasn't published by Sony in some markets.
It was a brand new type of game so it's reach/sales were super niche.
Because of the Souls game explosion and the fan demanding it Sony recreated it as a current gen game.
Ask unbiased people here who played both versions and they will tell you that it feels and plays current gen.
Spider-Man MM however was super anti consumer.
What are you talking about? plenty of PS4 games get free PS5 upgrades but when you guys act like a PS4/X1 game with NO PS5/XSX upgrades is a PS5/XSX game it's a bit silly.

It was not anti consumer, it's a $50 game that has as much content as a lot of full priced games, it's also a licensed product and Sony has to give some of the money to Marvel.
Spider-Man came out in 2018 for PS4. In 2020 they released a remastered Spider-Man for PS5, which you have to pay for. Gears 5 came out in 2019. In 2020 they released a remastered Gears 5 for the Xbox Series X/S, which is free.
Its not really that Sony's BC approach is bad its that Microsoft's is really good. Saying its an "embarrassment" is good for console wars but really its a case of Microsoft deserving credit for doing something we hadn't seen in consoles.

I used that word because Sony is doing so well in other avenues....yet they are STILL dropping the ball here.
I could care less about this console war BS. It's an oversight and an embarrassing one IMHO.
Microsoft relying on 3 games to carry the Xbox One exclusive catalog was an embarrassment too.

Even the developers said you could play the game blind folded if you had the 2009 one memorized. They even wanted to retain the animations.
MS being a software company is exactly how their BC system is better. They are using virtual coding and software to run older/legacy games. It's all emulated. It's not ass backwards at all, you're implying Sony should be able to somehow implement all of the PS1-4 hardware components into the PS5 design so that it can run old games. Does that make sense at all? When you build/design a new PC, do you re-use all your old components? No, you go for new technology. Sony doesn't know how to software code like MS does nor should they be expected to.
Sony are primarily a hardware company and that's why their development tools are all based on low level API. Even the way they run their PS5 BC with PS4 games is hardware based. Would I like better BC for PS1-3 games? Sure, but I wouldn't have any interest in them at all.
This is the advantage of MS and its long history of Windows and emulators.
