Backwards compatibility is an embarrassment? How so? Because one does it better the other doing something that actually works just like it's supposed to is an embarrassment? You can't claim no console wars and then say that lol. The content runs as intended and yes a lot of times a little better but the focus of a PS5 isn't to shine up PS4 games it's to move us to a new generation. You've also got a trillion dollar company vs a company worth much less who doesn't have the same resources to work on things like that.

PS5 can play 99% of PS4's catalog. That's hardly ignoring BC.

Yes it's not as good as MS's but it's an improvement over the PS4's for sure.

Yes it's an embarrassment and I'm going to continue to say that. Those are features I want. I SHOULD be able to play PS2/PS1 games on my PS5 if I had the disc. I want that feature. You lot making excuses for a feature that should be standard is ridiculous. I want to be able to not need legacy hardware to play my old games.

It's foolish to expect Sony to allow this when they didn't do this with the PS4.

Sony changing this by not only offering BC of PS4 games but enhancing some of them is far from what I would call a embarrassment.

You have your opinion but to the majority PS4 BC makes much more sense than PS1-PS3.

Can't figure out or don't think it's worth the investment? They have a streaming service for that and I'm sorry but as much as MS likes to talk about BC it's still not a feature the majority of gamers use often. I know they like to trot out "this many hours of old games have been played" well yeah when you aren't releasing enough new content that tends to happen. You know not every 360 game works on xbox series consoles right? hell hardly any original xbox games do yet you want Sony to include PS1/PS2/PS3 games or it's embarrassing?

I haven't played a single "next gen" game on my XSX yet, all the ones I want to play I already have on my PS5. I have been playing Jurassic Park and gave Halo MCC a try the other day because it was recommended here, still looks like an old game running at a better resolution than it did at launch but the stuff is still ugly by today's standards, hell even by last gen standards. I probably won't be playing anything "next gen" until the fall from the looks of it, that's on me for buying a machine when I knew the short comings but BC matters most when a generation first switches after that it should matter less over time.

I WANT IT AS WELL but I am a realist.

Some of those older games have online support as well.
This isn't a simple emulation and the PC emulators aren't compatible with Sony's online services.

Sony can't just throw something together and put it out, there could be licensing issues, compatibility testing has to be done to make sure it works across the entire catalog etc so the comparison there may not really make sense.

The emulators are actually getting really good. I've talked to one of the developers of PCSx2 (about their backend code base) and they are still laboring over it trying to get 99% BC on PC. It currently sits at about 92% with nearly all of the PS2 library.

Back to a page ago... If MS XB BC didn't exist people wouldn't expect as much.
Looking at how Sony handled BC in the past and gave up on it last gen... The current implementation is GREAT just not great vs XB.

The combination of BC mode and the game being UE3 definitely not doing any favours for the PS5 here.

But are we really using a 2 generations game still running on UE3 that's a decade old to determine console power differences? Really? Seems that's all Xbox fans been holding onto these days: BC advantages.

It's a very old game remastered and running in BC mode a decade old engine tech, just leave it at that.

It's an embarrassment. A console HARDWARE company is being bested by a traditionally software focused company in trying to get older content to run on their system. That is ass backwards.

Not only that....but Sony has been in the business for LONGER.

Don't let the fellas know this is me, but I think the main difference here is that Sony's support for BC hurt them seriously in the PS3 launch window - because putting those PS 2 engines in cost them actual silicon, while MS could do it as an abstraction above the hardware layer, so you see them launching at $599 and telling you to get another job. On that front at least Sony is hopelessly outmatched precisely because they make great hardware, and think in terms of that hardware, while MS has been making operating systems and keeping software compatible across different versions of Windows since Minesweeper.

Its not really that Sony's BC approach is bad its that Microsoft's is really good. Saying its an "embarrassment" is good for console wars but really its a case of Microsoft deserving credit for doing something we hadn't seen in consoles.

I am looking forward to the Ascent when that releases, it'll probably be the first next gen game on XSX I play unless I'm forgetting something that's coming out between now and the fall.

The models aren't gonna change much. I meant the environments. Plus I love the added fov options.

I hadn't played it in years. So the fresh coat of paint was probably more impressive than it should have been.

Plus 60fps.. it just feels like what the studios probably intended Halo to be.

Medium was meh (the couple of hours I played at least), Ascent looks meh... It's basically only Halo for me... Also, no Sony exclusive looks great for me.

We are near halfway the year, & only 2 noteworthy game so far, outiders & Resident evil viilage, both cross gen games.

I enjoy them both but it has been quite a dissappointing year so far. I do look foreward to D2 remake later of the year & that is about it.

I know its hard to believe, I used to be a rather big Halo fan. If Halo lived up to expectation, I may consider getting a gamepass or something to play it.

Demon's Souls came out in 2009 and you guys were s***ting on the remake hard at launch which completely revamped the whole visuals and game engine. Mass Effect legendary edition is still running on UE3 and same engine but it's apparently fine to pay money for that . Can you guys make it anymore obvious of the double standards around here.

Stop trolling only in Sony remastered games and giving a free pass to other remasters. If you're going to call people who bought a remaster a sucker, then you need to call them out in all remastered threads otherwise you're just being a hypocrite or just a troll in general.
