Fair enough. But if console gamers are now going to start justifying the cost of a 4 year console life cycle...can we get console gamers to stop complaining about the cost of pc gaming? A 4 year life cycle puts console gaming at costing more than pc gaming. (I'm not trying to start a "vs" war)

I haven't seen anyone here talk about this at all in recent memory. Hell the only time I've ever seen it used was when some "master racer" decided to be a condescending dick online. Not that that's justification. Does it happen anywhere but youtube anymore? It certainly can't be frequent enough to have it have such potent effect on you.

It has no effect on me...but then again, my opinion on not seeing the worth in dropping that kind of money just 4 years after new consoles released shouldn't have a potent effect on others.

Are differing opinions not allowed here? I was not trolling. Here's the thing. My wife got me an XB1 for father's day. So today I find out a new xbox is in the works. It would literally suck if soon after, it starts to lose support (in my opinion).

And while console gamers using the "cost" excuse against pc gaming doesn't effect me, it does still go on here, and like, literally, on the first page here. The "lie" still continues to this day.
1. Price of entry is too high for power experiences. Consoles still offer the absolute best performance bang for your buck. Same spec PC's vs. consoles will always lose in real-world perf, so just to MATCH the performance of a console, you need to buy something much more powerful than a console.

Eh, fair enough bra. Wait however long you need. This is cool for some of us though, backwards compatibility is the golden egg we all lean in for every gen, to get it confirmed this far out is refreshing and comforting. I'll be selling my Xbone a few weeks (to some lucky 9 year old on a budget) before Scorpio drops and the spend out won't be as much for me.

He's not wrong about the cost of power experiences. I never said you couldn't have an opinion, but did you expect nothing but agreement? Why use that silly argument. Is anyone telling you to shut up? We are here to discuss after all.

Beyond that, on the issue of what "console gamers" say. Using that argument as if all console gamers use that argument is silly, and pretty strawman anyway to support your perspective.

I get understand the concern, but previous generations were only 4 years long- without compatibility with the previous gen. Last gen was the outlier, and the tech gap exacerbated it. If I couldn't bring my existing library along to the next machine I'd be upset, though. As is described now, with compatibility for not only games, but peripherals as well. s***, I can't think of a better way to handle getting access to more power. Nothing wrong with options.

BTW, quoting Flynn as if that's what most of us talk like is just mean, man...

Hmmm, must suck that a new xbox is coming out so soon after the XB1 released. Kinda like being dupped into buying 2 xboxes within a single generation.
People buy new smart phones every year or so. Why not consoles?

If I recall correctly, when the XB1 released, they already showed how you could build a pc for the same price to match the console, and even exceed it. I built my pc for about $700, and it far exceeded the XB1. My previous pc build already match the XB1, and in many respects, exceeded it.

I don't :(

I don't even upgrade my pc at the rate that pc gamers do. I've even called getting a "new" gpu overkill. I literally get GPUs after they've been out for years, lol. (it's the old man in me with a ton of other financial priorities).

So you had a gpu with 5gb of memory back in 2013?

Ok. I'm talking about the Max out settings type, and your build is till a couple hundo more, so... Hell, I paid about 1500 last time I had a custom build, and that was about four or five years ago. The real savings is in the games and all of the free diversions there are out there.

I don't really care- personally, my preference for console games is purely from a convenience perspective.

I had a stint of playing on PC, but it just kinda faded. I felt like I was always fiddling with the damn thing (mainly I have one for my artistic endeavors).

Nope, didn't need it. My old pc was playing games at higher resolutions and better framerates that the XB1. Take BF4 as an example. My old pc ran BF4 at better visuals and performance than XB1. Right before I upgraded my pc, I was running all games at 1080p, and most games were being clocked at at least 60 fps, usually on ultra/high settings. Only a very few games did I need to drop some settings down a bit...and still outperform XB1 with better visuals.

That's not a knock against the XB1....I had this same argument with Val years ago. The only reason I upgraded was to play newer games at 2560x1440 on ultra. I didn't "need" to upgrade. Point is, to simply match the XB1 in 2013, no one needed to buy something much more powerful. In 2013, just to match it, the cost was about the same, or maybe just a tad bit more.

yeah, to max out a game....but I was responding to his comment about just matching it.

fair enough on the rest of what you said. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Just saw an interview with the GOW4 devs, they said that GOW4 is Scorpio ready. On Scorpio it will run in real 4k and it's HDR ready too.
FH3 will run in HDR too, and I'm sure it will run in real 4k on Scorpio.

I wonder if the Elite controller is going to come with the Xbox Scorpio. I don't see why not since they already said it's supported but you have to think the Scorpio would be at least $500 at launch, and the controller is still $150.

Oh, and to the people trying to spin this into a bad thing. Just stop, please? Let Xbox fans have their one day in the sun. It's been a long 3 years of having to deal with haters constantly bashing the brand and that's coming from someone who likes both brands.

Thats insane if true. The slight improvements in back compat titles (better fps and v synch) on Xbone is already great, changing native res would be awesome.

I'm not trying to spin it as a bad thing for you. It's a bad thing for me. My wife just got me an XB1 AND I bought a XIM4 for current consoles. So yeah, it sucks to be me right now, and yeah, I kinda feel duped. Had I known another console was right over the horizon, I would have waited.

Where have you been the last month? We've been talking about the Scorpio for a long time now. It was pretty much confirmed by anyone with common sense that Microsoft was bringing new hardware to the table. The first Xbox had a lifespan of 4 years and they're on track to release the Scorpio exactly 4 years after the Xbox One. You should have seen this coming.

Working. Wife. Kids. etc.
Dude, I'm in my mid 40s....I don't follow all gaming news. I also haven't been on lately, other than to chime in on the occasional politic thread or something. :(
I only checked the xbox thread because an article came up on my yahoo feed about this new xbox console.

I guess that's understandable. But still, this close to E3, you really should check in on things every now and then. Complaining about having a life and then getting burned because you chose to have a life over video games seems kinda counter productive. :D

Oh well, you seem to have your bases covered anyway between platforms, so just get a Scorpio in year two when it gets the first price drop if you feel you want it. No rush. Year 2 is when all the good stuff comes out. The first year we'll all just be geeking out to the visuals like we do every gen.

wait WTF and I'm owning consoles why now? So this is the new thing we'll get console updates every few years? Man f*** it may as well get a PC and hook it up to my TV.

I'll stick with consoles. I've never had my games hijacked on console, unlike PC.

6 teraflops but no mention of an increase in RAM. That is no good. I hope that it is just because they haven't finalized that particular part of the specs.

I imagine if they are sticking with the whole "beast" goal, then the Ram would need to match. They did say the bandwidth would be 320 gbs though.

That's a very good thing. Best to wait until the other camps reveal their specs, and then beat them in the last minute.

The screens of the motherboard denote 12 RAM chips (although it could be a mockup). Indeed it would not feel like a true next gen leap without a 50% RAM increase. But thats something to pull out of the hat after Sony confirms spec of the Neo.

I think it will be safe to say, anything 1st party release on/after Holiday 2017 will target Scorpio and be scaled down for Xbone rather than vice versa.
