PS5 News + Speculation

LOL the same digital foundry that said PS4 would have 4gb's of ram.

That can obviously be changed late in the game. But an entire architecture? It’s not possible without serious delays and costs.

Again, it still looks like most of the rumors line up (not the fanboy BS going around since the X reveal): The PS5 was most likely supposed to have launched this year. All the Japanese leaks from earlier in the year, which I’ve posted, point repeatedly to this based on what’s supposedly inside.

For whatever reason, they’re waiting until next year, and since they can’t change the architecture, they are apparently trying to tweak what they have to work with, so they can get max performance out of it. Hence the overheating rumors.

Again, this is all speculation, but there is a lot of evidence to at least make this a consideration.

My personal opinion is still 10.2 TF at absolute max, and with OG RDNA. If that’s the case, it will be less powerful than the x, but also cheaper. It’s looking like it will be $399 vs the X at a likely $499.

And with a super talented dev team, I doubt the power difference will matter much in the end. I’ll just be curious to see how many people go with power over cost, if all this ends up being true.

GOW looks amazing, so I’m just keeping my PS4 for another couple of years, then I’ll pick up a 5 once they drop the price, and I’ll get all the big games cheaper.

If X was more powerful MS would say so.
Plus more rumors are saying PS5 is more powerful.
So I am in the PS5 is more powerful camp.
Only way X ends up stronger is if it costs more and that is suicide...2 sku's=DOA.

Why would MS know if they are more powerful though? If they Did know they still wouldn't tell us because that would expose the spying.

I'm in the "I don't know" camp, because I don't.

Thuway doesn't know anything, he's just reading bits and pieces from places and freaking out, he seems like a nice guy but he bounces back and forth on things like a tennis ball, he's already been corrected later in the thread and is now saying that the PS5 and XSX will have the same GPU based on what others in the thread have been saying.

Man I hope Nintendo goes with something more powerful for their next system. When I see Zelda vids on YouTube done in the Unreal engine...gah.

And overall, it’s fun to speculate on numbers for systems. I try to base it off what people dig up, but in reality, we have very little official PS5 info so far.

MS has given more official specs, but there are still unanswered questions.

I’m hearing Sony will have an unveil around Feb..? Hopefully.

Why not?
Do we honestly believe these companies don't have a clue what the other is doing?
Probably are spying.

Being that they are both going with AMD they both have an idea of what the most powerful thing either can put out is, they won't know what specific changes each makes but they'll both know what can be done with the GPU/CPU overall and what changes can be made overall.

*Probably* speculation, but apparently this person is using the latest PS5 dev kit. Supposedly.

If PS5 is $400 and Xbox is $500 then Xbox doesn’t stand a chance in the sales competition.

X86 based and the same GPU/CPU maker... Makes bc with PS4 easy.
Terrible rumor!

It's less easy the closer to the hardware the dev pipeline has to go, as optimizations based on hardware clock speeds would be out of sync on a much faster machine. Sony's strength has always been getting everything out of the machine by going straight down to the metal, so it will take some work on their part - backwards compatiblity for them has been including silicon to handle the prior generation. They will get it done, I'm sure, but don't think it will be as simple as all that - remember that it took about four months for the Pro to have Boost mode and they even launched that with a disclaimer that if things looked weird than to disable it.

I miss the days where power of systems were 8,16,32,64,128, etc. Bits. I don't like this new Flop stuff they talk about now.

Sony actually confirmed the PS5 will support 8K gaming back in October, where it also confirmed the PS5 would have an 8-core, 16-thread Zen 2 CPU as well as an RDNA-powered GPU (likely a second-gen Navi GPU because of native ray tracing support). "Up to 8K resolution output for games," reads the post.
