Since it was online, I could go as fast as I wanted to.

I went to a job fair and the company asked me how I felt about work 7 days a week. Like WTF.

They said one could expect overtime and every other week would likely be 7 days. They also explained "We are a Union job and we have to honor our contract." like WTF Union is this? I guess though some people want hours like this because they get the Overtime rate.

This was for a manufacturing job as I was considering trying something besides trucking. 🤷‍♂️

There's a bit of a union "myth" that union jobs are super cushy and people sitting around, which is of course not true at all, at least universally. These unions have a lot less power than people think in most cases. It seems like the companies can just threaten to fire people and the union has to cave.

Right now my union is in contract negotiations and we're asking for partial work from home, and the answer has been "nope", even though we did it all through covid. They are offering us a 2% pay increase while inflation is out of control. This is a big union state wide.

Got a much better job lead and lined up orientation next week. Should start doing tri-state area delivery, but switch to Yard Jockey / Trailer Shuttle. Should keep me at the warehouse or shuttle close by.

Keep trying to get a good job that gets me out of long highway driving and hope this will be it. Also, something with sane work hours about 45 per week and not the typical 70 hours I fvcking hate that.

But especially, time and money for gaming upgrades

Manufacturing, production, etc type jobs in Texas can easily be up to 7 days a week 10+ hour days depending on the company and how in demand they are. Before my career now I worked as a machinist we made stuff for the oil field. We worked 12 hour days, 7 days a week, for almost two months straight before we got a day off. Was great money though.

Yesterday was day 1 of a 3 day music festival I'm attending. It's been a ton of fun, but my feet are already feeling their age. I may need a wheelchair or rascal scooter by Sunday!

Maybe I’m just an old fuddy dud, but seeing kids (and adults) on Facebook use ion as short hand for I don’t, it hurts my brain.

I don't like any of the shortcuts, including things like IDK for I don't know. I also am pissed that many schools are no longer teaching cursive.

I'm fine with "idk", but not with "ion" because it's a actual word.

Ion ? I haven't even seen that one

One thing related to this I find interesting is sometimes seeing Slang emerge and die quickly these days.

I think for a while, a phrase "That was clean." was starting to go around describing something done perfectly or executed flawlessly. Often related to gaming, but could be other things.

Quote some time ago I'd heard YOLO which seemed to die, try a come back, and just not stick.

Or some people tried to get "Amaze-Balls" going and it didn't really stick.

I think "GOAT" Greatest of All Time is one that is going to stick.

Also, versions of "Lit" or "That's is Fire" might stick.

"Lmao" still going strong.

Back to work tomorrow after about 3 months off and moving. It's been a nice break.

It sounds like they'll start me off delivering to Menards. That will be nice after ALDI, I prefer going to bigger stores with more room. Will eventually move on to a new warehouse to warehouse shuttle role.
