What I don't get, why is the USA press so anti XBOX..... It does not make any fooking sense....... The PONY is a import....its as if the states now has the British Poppy head effect.....(soon as anything is popular cut the head off it!)
Cause they are already vested in the hate for the past several months. So instead of eating crow, they are going to do and say things to save face. Even if its nitpicking things.

You also to take into account these sites and podcast are gaming eccentric.
PS4's gaming specific direction, powerful hardware, simple functioning party system, largely picked "better controller", operational streaming ability, assorted free games and mutiple F2P titles, non-proprietary HDD and Headset ability, upcomming MORE free games, Remote play abilities etc..
These things add up to rubbing gaming journalist the right way...
...Plus negativite articles attract clicks, and the PS4's only hang up has been universal between both consoles "less then stellar launch games"
And while both systems have suffered this launch gane hang up the One/MS shot their most highly loved exclusive in the foot (Forza) with intrusive microtransactions and lack of content.

I think at this point the best place to read/see One news is more main stream places or gadget focused. Right now places like Time magazine, Popular Mechanic or Maxxim seem to be the place for positive One news while the gaming press, who's sole focus is on gaming has found Sony/PS4 to be its darling.

Hasn't been just websites that have a negative vibe but most podcast seem to be less then positive.
Giant Bomb, Player One, Weekend Confirmed etc..
All an assortment UI complaints, Long load times and install times etc..
Today Jeff talked about BF4 looking bad on Xbone, new controller bad for shooters, party system is a "train wreck"..

Seems everyone finds Forza to be the Ones redeeming quality, aside from the lack of tracks and cars and microtransactions...most are saying they're jumping to Gran Tourismo (40 tracks/1000+ cars)

Seems like every podcast will says 1 positive thing for every 20 negative..oppose to 20 positive to 1 negative for the PS4.
Very much role reversal in the gaming press/media seen in 2006.
Unfortunately, some of the negativities are justified, or at least debatable.

Let be honest, most websites do not have clear bias (if at all) last gen towards either PS3 or xbox. It cannot be that suddenly, people get together & decide to hate XBO one, can they? In fact site like IGN have been accuse of being bias towards xbox 360.

The main complain for PS4 is lack of true next gen games (at the moment), but that's about the only major one. Its cheaper, more powerful, & have an improved controller. If they have also comparable online service, as a pure gaming console, I do not know what major negative that one can reasonably complain.

^that's probably the issue. Gaming media v general/tech media.

Very different perspectives.

Lets also not forget this pro-Sony vibe didn't exactly start with the PS4.

Anyone who follows gaming press/podcast saw a bash-fest of anti-Sony rhetoric between 2006-2008'ish.
Then a series of events happened..
The redirection of Sony dumping Crazy Ken, a VERY PR friendly Offical Blog, a series of exclusives touted every year as "GOTY"
Then PS+...at first it was looked at by an odd choice but by 2011/2012 the argument for how amazing it was became standard.
Sony asking people to tweet them "what games do you want remade?"
The bend over backwards direction for indies opposed to the assorted bi-monthly articles by an indie saying "why I won't work with MS again"
Who are these guys!?..not the same saying you should pay $600 and forcing Blu-Ray on you..

The paying to beta-test Kinect 1.0 and the slew or fake vids, from scanning a skateboard in to being a Jedi...or the ponchos...

By 2011/2012 the hate of 2006 was gone, replaced by many gamers and journalist filled with nothing but praise for Sony/PS3. The biggest selling point in the end years for the 360 became a bit better graphics, party chat...and do you like Call of Duty, Gears, or Halo?

As it stands, we just went into next gen with Sony just releasing on the PS3 what many consider the game of the year (The Last of Us)...big change from "Sony has no games, bad graphic ability, poor online" of 2006..

Heck, I just downloaded via my phone Grid 2 and Binary Domain to my PS3 while I'm at work for free...but MS gave me Gears for free right? Hooray for the gamers..

Its crazy because while it Is a cool gadget, I can't remember having this much variety from a launch console, I literally can't decide what to play sometimes.

all this praise for the ps3 at the end and the 360 wtfpwned it here in the states...I wonder why?

I feel your pain...I bought every..single..launch game..for each console..

My wife had the "when are you gonna stop coming to bed at 5am?" talk this weekend lol.

I love how it clearly says in-engine look and the website says it's in-game...i could be wrong, but these two are totally different?

Correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't only Watch_Dogs so far the game that was downgraded from its first showing?

far cry 3 was down graded also.

Actually even 5 years ago when you went to IGN searching for something it would load up PS version first and in my eyes always had bias leaning to PS side and this is the reason I always used Gamespot who would have a mix of how search results were displayed etc

Two issues:
1. The PS4 controller is universally considered improved. Over the PS3 controller. Not many are saying it's better than the Xbox one, past or present. Not many at all.

2. All the talk about a replaceable hard drive bugs me. What would you rather do, replace a hard drive yourself, or plug in a USB drive. One system will support games running off an external hard drive, the other won't. While it's still pending a software update to enable, that one is the Xbox, not the PS4. I have several multi-TB drives laying around that I'd like to be able to use rather than clowning around with a $500 internal drive I have to install myself. Sorry, that's a complete no brainer and it bugs me that the PS4 approach is someone lauded as superior.

Well to be fair Sony could also bring external drive support through update.
Having ability to swap internal drive is better as sata controller is faster more reliable than usb3 due to drivers etc. Also external drives are much more expensive although you could make your own with sata to usb hub. 2TB 7200rpm drive is ~$100. But I'm looking forward to manualy managing my saves etc

Can someone help me?

On my Xbox One when I sign in it says my real name. However it doesn't show my GF's name. Is there anyway to change that so her name shows up when she signs in.

I think the negs are because the XB1 has more things that are new. I mean the PS4 is just an upgraded PS3 ( I don't mean that derogatorily, just its a game system by designs) while the XB1 has all these new concepts. I mean the UI was designed for a system that was digital.

  • Those pins would be way more useful if you had all digital games, with disks they aren't as useful.
  • The BR drive wasn't designed to install games just play movies. The games were to be digital. So the extra speed wasn't needed with the digital model.
  • Getting Voice to work with so many regions, cable services, and TVs isn't easy. I amazed mine works as well as it does.
  • I don't think people appreciate what it takes to change a ui and OS from one that was digital to what it is now. Every change means new potential conflicts. It also mean less time for things like voice chat.
The XB1 is very ambitious and I think the things they are trying to do will take time to work out. The switch to a non-digital system doesn't help. XBL and PS+ took years to become what they are now. I think the same for the XB1 and its functions.

The thing is people do not want to pay extra for features that they are not sure they need, especially if this features will not be fully realise until a few years down the road. Voice command, gesture, limited, & downright not available yet in many countries. Same with apps & TV/cable features, limited at the moment, even more so if you live elsewhere, more so if you are from a small nation.

Cheaper price, better hardware, are easily understood & work from day one.

Has XBOX one sell at comparable price as PS4, I am sure people will be more forgiveable with the shortcoming of the interface, kinect etc.

One is cheaper, more powerful, another is 25% more expensive, less power (resultingin many major 3rd party games running at lower setting already), & interface need more work (not saying PS4 interface is better, but at lower price point, its more forgivable). Which one do you think will get more negative reports?

Until MS can justify the price difference, & prove the value of the extra 100 bucks, & major 3rd party games runs comparable level of details/setting to PS4, it will continue to get poor press compare to its competition.

It sadden me as a long time suppoerter of xbox (since the original, which I bought with halo 1), most of the bad press would not have surafce had they used some of the enomous money in research (like 100 million for controller) & promotions to beef up th spec, & lower the price.

You have to log in to your (or her) MS account on your pc and change the display name, or first name. It shows whatever that is set to. I changed mine recently, it's easy.

OK so a friend sent me this:

http://gearnuke.com/will-destiny-unfold-sub-1080p-xbox-one/ (OOOHHH DEAR GOD).......another resolution story!

I'd like to know if any one would be bothered if this turns out to be the case, I know some launch titles didn't hit 1080p and it didn't bother me in the slightest but thinking about Destiny that is a BIG hitter, from Bungie so we know it'll be a hit!

So will it bother you if such a huge title like Destiny comes in under 1080p?

Would I prefer 1080p? Yes. Is it the end of the world if it's not.? No.

6. Microsoft Xbox One

xbox-one.jpg

Microsoft

Officially, Microsoft’s Xbox One is a game console, but its aspirations go far beyond play. With built-in video calls via Skype, integration with cable and satellite TV boxes and an interface derived from Windows 8, it’s really a living-room PC. The most intriguing technology is built into the new Kinect sensor, which understands spoken commands, recognizes faces and can even measure your heart rate. Some aspects of the One are still rough around the edges, but it’s going to be fascinating to see where it goes.

I got COD ghost specifically for this reason to see if it would bother me and I can happily say every long blade of grass looked razor sharp to me. I've also looked everywhere to attempt to see these "jaggies" on all edges @ all angles that @ some points it over took playing of the game. I don't know if they can visually be seen unless they're still pics side by side for me anyways? In other words I can't notice it so it doesn't exist except for those that need payback from last gens more power wars.

I'll wait for Halo5 to come out before I'll agree with the forum rats instead of accomplished developers that PS4 is hands down more powerful than XB1. Since we could wait 8 years for Last of Us (Own it, finished it, don't see how it was way better then gears?) we can wait < 1 year for what 343 can do. Oh and there is that little Ryse launch title that looks jaw dropping so imo resolution isn't the do all end all only spec that matters for graphical fidelity.

This is true but as a X1 owner it saddens me a bit that both consoles didn't have greater specs than they do after 8 years. We should easily be hitting 1080P especially at 30fps. I hope that the cloud really does bring this extra power to the box because if it doesn't we are going to need new consoles in 5 years or less.
