The Xbox One Thread v2.0

Just an update of what I've personally used with Xbox One so far since having it a couple of days after launch day:

Own three games: Battlefield 4, Dead Rising 3 and Forza 5

Top played from most to least: Forza 5, BF4, DR3.

Only two apps I've been using are Xbox Fitness and Netflix. Haven't touched anything else with the system. Haven't bought a single digital download title yet, waiting for sales, if that ever happens.

Oh, I played Kinect Rivals twice...

I use voice controls when I can, but after two repeats of a command, I pick up the controller and do what I need to do.

I disable Kinect controls in all of my games, I find it clunky and boring.

I also watch blue-ray movies as well...so I guess I should say that I've used the blu-ray app? LOL Can't believe that's an app.

OK so a friend sent me this:

http://gearnuke.com/will-destiny-unfold-sub-1080p-xbox-one/ (OOOHHH DEAR GOD).......another resolution story!

I'd like to know if any one would be bothered if this turns out to be the case, I know some launch titles didn't hit 1080p and it didn't bother me in the slightest but thinking about Destiny that is a BIG hitter, from Bungie so we know it'll be a hit!

So will it bother you if such a huge title like Destiny comes in under 1080p?

That's an old article, but whether Destiny will be lower res remains to be seen. I don't think there will be much of difference between 900p and 1080p.

Destiny for me is still a game i am not sure about. Never been a huge Bungie fan, and while i like the concept of it...i DO find it overhyped. The animations simply look bad in the latest trailer and i'm just taking the wait and see approach with this one. Resolution bulls*** would not be cool, but if it's similar to AC4 and COD, it really isn't that big of a deal. A resolution difference of 720p vs 1080p should be huge, but when i compared Gamersyde's CoD and AC4 videos of X1 and PS4 with eachother...i barely saw any real differences. Best would be though if the resolution problem gets fixed soon nonetheless.

I can easily live with 900p, Ryse looks stunning. Anyway, if all things were equal then the one with higher res would be the best choice but to me all things aren't equal. I can snap anything whilst playing on X1, I prefer Xbox live, I prefer the controller, I can be doing other things whilst my mp match is being set up behind the scenes, these things all make up for the better all round experience for me. Unless you are looking at both consoles side by side which the vast majority won't be, then no one will be any the wiser. It hasn't affected how much I love playing bf4. I have a gaming pc with gtx 590 that is lying in the corner of my living room virtually unused because I prefer the all round experience my X1 provides.

Would I prefer 1080p? Yes. Is it the end of the world if it's not.? No.
Not end of the world, but I will pick the one with 1080p, if I have the option. Why would I otherwise, when I have a perfectly capable TV that output 1080p native.

Same here, i would want the best looking and performing version too. The problem though is..the majority of my friends will be getting it on Xbox. Honestly...i expect very little differences. So it actually could be a 900p vs 1080p difference? That is not nearly as bad 720p vs 1080p.

Has anyone tried saying "Xbox select" while using Xbox Fitness? It doesn't seem to work.

I have been enjoying everything about the X1. One thing I dont understand is all the talk about it not being a Gaming System and how MS is not focusing on it being a Game System. I dont see that. I see some great games already out. Some great games coming. The ID program and more.

If gaming was not a focus, how could a great launch game like Ryse be out. Another coming shortly in TitanFall. Casual games are out and some in the queue. Family games. Small quick play games. The list of games is long. The thought the X1 is just media device is a misconception that people like to toss out. As is evident, it is a Game System.

There are some people pointing out that the PS4 is the superior hardware. Not sure on the whole "superior" and how great the gap is but I remember when the PS3 launched with its amazing Cell and BluRay technology. That never proved that the PS3 was the "Gaming" machine. I enjoyed great gaming for 7 years on the 360.

If a bullet list of features is what determines the "Gaming-ness" of a system, then the PC should be the go to gaming system. Guess what, it is not. So, when considering a game console, the rule set has to be different than this bullet list that somehow determines the best gaming system.

The X1 plays great games and does a lot more. That lot more is what has won me over.

Then, its a reasonable reason to get the xbox version I guess.

I like the head-tracking in Forza personally, makes me feel more like I'm really in the cockpit and makes it a bit more realistic/immersive. Also improves periphery vision . Realised that I've pretty much always naturally leaned sideways when playing racing games, heh. Not that it couldn't be implemented a bit better I'm sure, but I definitely prefer it on.

Totally useless in the F1 cars of course but there you go.

Well to be fair Sony could also bring external drive support through update.
Having ability to swap internal drive is better as sata controller is faster more reliable than usb3 due to drivers etc. Also external drives are much more expensive although you could make your own with sata to usb hub. 2TB 7200rpm drive is ~$100. But I'm looking forward to manualy managing my saves etc

Replaceable hard drive is good as long as you're going to be able to get one that's large/fast enough to store everything you're ever going to want on it. Having to uninstall/reinstall HDs because you want to play a game that's on the other HD would be annoying, or having to redownload it to avoid that hassle would be slow. With external drives, plug in the one with your game, problem solved.

Ideally, both companies would support both approaches. And unless there's something about the flash memory in the hybrid hard drive they have that they're using for the OS or something, they should have given the opportunity for users to replace it. And Sony should support externals.

Until MS can justify the price difference, & prove the value of the extra 100 bucks, & major 3rd party games runs comparable level of details/setting to PS4, it will continue to get poor press compare to its competition.

If they're still selling out at this price point every time they release more to the market, doesn't that pretty much justify the price point though? It's not like they're sitting in bulk on shelves with people unwilling to pay that price for them - they make them, they sell them. The bad press will come and go, but if MS delivers a console that sells well with the games and features that people want, I don't think they'll give two craps about what Edge prints.

Yeah. Xbox press is on a hate spree at this point. But the XO IS selling. The price is justified obviously, by now.

This perfectly describes my personally situation, lol, except I have a GTX 470 :) That thing is still a beast but I will always prefer console gaming. That and instant switching via voice... :D

it is actually irritating to see the press so against the device. for what end? what purpose? so f***ing stupid
What becomes increasingly difficult to stomach is how they are making a living off of doing so these days because its the cool thing to do. I hope with the addition of adding recorded clips and gamers able to upload their own opinions via Youtube etc, that it eventually diminishes a lot of these gaming journalist websites who continue to create these skewed opinions pieces for click bate. Its quite disgusting actually....

I agree... pathetic to me, actually only eclipsed by actual fanboys in terms of vileness.

Console wars always happen, can't be avoided, but the "press" for the gaming industry is miserable these days.

One of the biggest things for me is the controller. Even though the DS4 is much improved, it still doesn't beat out the Xbox controllers. When the difference between the two is so minor that you have to do side by side comparisons and even then it's not very easy to see, it reallyy isn't abig deal and the controller and os trumps that as far as I'm concerned. The only time more power has been a factor for me (in a console generation that is) when a system simple couldn't do what the other system was doing. (See Xbox vs ps2. The ps2 couldn't even do a slightly downgraded version of something like hHalo due to lack of a hard drive, dramaticly less ram etc...).

There is no game this generation that one system could do that the other couldn't, so I don't care about the "minor" graphical difference.

It launched for like 2 weeks. If they didn't sell out now, they might as well raise the white flag now. If they can sustain the sales when the honeymoon period is over, then yes, they can keep selling at this price. Only time will tell.

This exactly. I remember the PS fanboys predicting the end of xbox once Cell was announced. How Cell was going to change the world, how cell was a super duper computer that was invented by the gods. Seriously, thats how bad it was. Every started saying the Xbox 360 looked ancient and MS screwed up. Pretty much the same crap I've been hearing now since May

The major difference being of course that unlike the ps3 and 360, the ps4 and xb1 share the same amd silicon.
same cpu, same gpu family.

Well why wasn't Sony able to get their operating system to multi-task then? Because two weeks on, there is no longer any question that this is the killer feature this generation. Anyone who disagrees is simply in denial, or ignorant of the situation on the X1. Sony hasn't yet released suspend-resume, so we have no way to compare the two.

I think it has been Sony's plan to hype up suspend-resume, while they have known all along it can't match the X1's multi-tasking abilities.

How long do we have to wait before we can start being hyper critical of Sony on this front? I mean until any comment critical of Sony is not regarded as trolling. Because I had to endure an entire week of Sony fans saying "but it released in 13 countries", but now when I say the same thing about Sony's sales I get moderated.

Right. Which is why saying that they need to react by cutting prices or justify the price difference is kind of silly - it's like asking them to react to problems that at this point are only imagined. Might as well say Sony needs to cut prices sooner because so far, MS is holding pretty close among early adopters (which is the core gaming market) and the mainstream non-games media is overwhelmingly backing it. All this stuff will play out in time, and there's a time and a place for post-mortem analysis, but it's not pre-mortem. ;)

Just on a side note I don't understand how ANYONE can prefer the DS4 over the One pad, I love the new pad, I think everything about it beats the DS4 and is an improvement to the 360 pad.

Of course this could be my preference shining through I just think it's so comfortable for hours and hours of gaming!

I have BF4 on PC and I could run it on Ultra with 4xmsaa with 45-60 FPS. Looks stunning, but for some reason I have much more fun when I play it on my X1, which looks great also. It seems people play differently on console and I like being able to say record that to capture the awesome moments. I havent had any multiplayer issues either and there are always a ton of servers to play on. I also have fifa on x1 and PC and enjoy it on x1 more, which btw looks better on x1

Because sony isnt a software company? you can be critical all you want about them, just as i am critical about microsoft, though i actually own the products i criticize. If you have a ps4, by all means, critique away. You are entitled to. If multitasking is the killer feature of this generation, then i hope this generation ends as fast as possible.

Got BF4 running at 1440p with Dual 7970 in my rig, really look good...but I have more fun using my Xbox One in my living room. I have the same opinion.:)

Why are you surprised, how different is it now than how it was over @ PSU with the PS3?

Not everyone likes the system, possibly more people like the PS4 this time, weird concept but it happened last gen where the 360 was the console for many (inc me).

...but trying to make sense of it all to the guys over @ PSU back in 2006, 2007 and 2008 was a very tough task, history will repeat.

The one sided opinion with so called professional gaming websites leaves A LOT to be desired. It wasnt like this for the Ps3. Just sayin...
