The Xbox Onesie

Surprise, surprise. It works just fine when you actually want it to.

Other vids I've seen are showcasing people speaking faster than normal, and not using the commands as they've been instructed to in the numerous MS vids we've seen.

Can't watch a lot of videos online yet, but I see the comment flying around saying something along the lines of "Kinect works well when you use it right". How do I know if I'm using it right though? Are there cues on the screen that tell us what exactly we need to say to do something? Do they only show up one time and then you have to remember them from that point on? Just trying to get a feel for what to expect come Friday.

All text that works as voice commands are highlighted in green on the system. So you cant just say, Xbox Resume Ryse. You have to say Xbox Resume Ryse Son Of Rome.

Damn that's slick. This calms me ;) This is real, this is error free basically. Awesome!

People will find that once they set it up in their own homes, it'll work phenomenally well. Easily in the upper 90% range.

When people can't reliably hear each other at a much higher percentage, I'd say that's pretty damn good.

...and seriously... the box feels so much more advanced than PS4. When you add in HDMI in for TV, Kinect for voice/gesture/IR blasting, SmartGlass, etc. - everything in your living room just comes alive and feels unified. There's a reason why so many of the reviews talk up the system as being futuristic, and feeling like it's "the future"... and it really wouldn't be that without Kinect.

I think in a few days, few people will be questioning the inclusion of Kinect... and they'll be sitting back, enjoying the unification of their devices and entertainment all in one place.

As an English gamer and seeing that video us over in good ole England will be fine with Kinect or dialect will be easy to understand.

Maybe when the US has English as a language it should be American? Hence the bad understanding in the Ign videos.

p.s only joking before I'm flamed. My Manchester Accent will not be queens English. can see me using my pad and not using kinect like on the 360.

I hope that I have enough space to support Kinect 2.

according to ms, the new cameras field of view is such that a lot less room is needed. I will try to get the official post, or at least, the last official info, but I remember someone saying it was almost half of the distance needed for K1

Looks to me like the "Xbox select" command will be very useful when first getting used to the system.

That would be great if true. I have moved into a small condo, losing my home theater area, and my space is greatly reduced.

Not everyone has a huge living room for watching TV or playing console games. Some homes or apartments have spaces that are much smaller for those activities. When Kinect was released in 2010, the add-on for the Xbox 360 had a minimum distance between the sensor and the user of between 6 to 8 feet, which meant many living rooms without a lot of square footage could not use the device.

That distance has apparently been cut down quite a bit for the next generation Kinect hardware, which is included in all Xbox One consoles. In a leaked Brazilian setup manual for the hardware that was found by a NeoGAF member, it shows the minimal distance for the Kinect to work in a space has been cut down to 1.4 meters, or 4.59 feet. That should allow the sensor to work in much more compact spaces.

The same manual shows that the the minimum height for the new Kinect is 0.6 meters (about 1.9 feet) and the maximum height for the sensor is 1.8 meters (about 5.9 feet). While this manual leak seems to be authentic, we have contacted Microsoft to confirm that these figures are correct.

You should sticky this for when people inevitably start having problems using Kinect because they don't know commands.

I got the same amount of space Soldier. I think I'm just going to forget the Kinect really. I don't have the space, it has next to zero relevant impact on any game I'm playing over the course of the next year, and I don't really have anywhere to put it on my entertainment set up (I don't want it sitting in front of my television).

I'm buying the Xbox One for games and maybe I'll use the HBO Go app or a couple other apps once in a while, but nothing that Kinect 2.0 seems to impact or save me any significant navigation time.

Once you begin to learn the Kinect functions, I'm pretty sure you wont want to go back. I know I wont. Hell, I cant now. lol.

Does the xbox come with 2 controllers? Hope it does.. Tired of these systems coming with just one.. They're to expensive

Yeah I think part of the problem is so many reviewers / random people have never used Kinect 1.0, or at least never practiced with the voice commands.

You just need a slight pause after saying "Xbox" really, and then have to know the commands.. anything that isn't a standard command you have to pay attention to what words are highlighted (as someone mentioned, Ryse is "Ryse Sone of Rome")

Kinect is racist against Americans, not the British. Now it makes sense.

Going to suck with Assassin's Creed. Long title. "Xbox, go to Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag".

set up xbox one easily and the games are great so far (Ryse, Dead Rising, KI, Golf. yet to install FIFA).

kinect on the other hand...

did not recognize my face at set up, i had to tell it where i was.

the novelty of saying "Xbox On" wears off after 6 or more attempts at it not recognizing my voice. "Xbox Turn Off" has worked every time and "Xbox Use A Code" works.

swapping the pad between players has yet to be recognized by kinect as having been done.

voice commands in Ryse and Dead Rising do not work at all and i'll assume crashing into things is not the norm for kinect sports. but it tends to happen a lot with the poor controls.

so, console is great, kinect is crap. wouldn't be so bad, but i went with xbox 1st because of kinect. but hey, it's early days. it may improve.

hmm I actually think Kinect is one of the most impressively accurate features, other than the gestures are kinda off sometimes.
