To each their own...

Your viewing environment plays such huge factor. In a dedicated theater room I would be leaning towards the vizio-p series. In a bright living room the Samsung will come into it's own.

Build quality goes to Samsung IMO, just go read the vizio owners thread over at avsforum.

Certainly, and I considered that too. I brought up the Visio to my wife, but she shot it down on reputation (or at least perception of) alone, lol. I've been very happy with my 55 inch Samsung for the last five years. This new one is 10 INCHES BIGGER!

I kept thinking of going flat, but every time I see the curved tv next to the flat one, I always prefer the curved. It just feels like it has more depth. That tv was getting a lot if five star consumer reviews, too.
Froz, what are you doing? Those TVs are getting bad reviews!

Just kidding, looks awesome. Never even heard of this quantum dot tech until just recently.

When Scoorpio comes out, I might as well get a 4k tv too. I've been a diehard Panny supporter for just about everything from A/V to my microwave, but a few years ago got a small Samsung TV for my bedroom. It was a no frills 720p TV and it's solid. And $100 cheaper than the similarly sized Panny I saw. So I'll probably go Sammy again in a few years.

I hadn't heard of the nano-crystal stuff either (Samsung calls it SUHD), and it sounds pretty future proof-ey- basically more colors than anything supports. I also made sure it had HDR, though it doesn't support dolby hdr, I guess.

I wanted the full array backlit, but that would be too much, and the floor model of the tv looks absolutely stellar. The only set I like better are the oleds and those cost too much and I wanted at least 65 inches.

By the way, hopefully nothing goes wrong with your tv, but for me I'll always buy my gear from Costco. They give an extra year of warranty for free and if something goes wrong with the tv (like mine at about the 18 month mark), a guy comes and picks it up to fix and drops it off 3-4 days later.

No way I want to box up and haul my tv back to a manufacturers repair centre.

Costco's extended warranties are insanely cheap. It'll be something like $100 for an extra 3 years warranty..... = 5 years. At places like Best Buy or buying direct from the manufacturer, they'll charge you probably $100 PER YEAR for a large TV, and that starts at year two.

So at Costco you can get 5 years total coverage for $100. From BB or manufacturer, it`ll be $400, as they only give year one as a free warranty.

They also give 3 months refund policy, and you can price match their own store if it's lower within that time. That small Samsung TV i bought got lowered $100 during that 3 month period and they gave me it back in cash when I showed them the receipt. But you can only price match it once.

For me, I'll be looking at a 60" display (like my current one). A 65"+ is too big for my viewing area, but yeah if you can do it... bigger the better!

I stopped buying those damn protection plans a long time ago. I never end up needing them. It was 500 dollars for this tv. Usually if it makes it past a year, It won't go bad until after the extended warranty expires anyway.

I wonder if I can just insure it against damage instead...

That's the whole reason I went with the Vizio 65 inch p series . ..full array, dolby HDR and HDR 10. Val recommended ... best TV I have ever owned to date . Had nothing but Panny plasmas prior . First Vizio I have owned as well so I had my doubts at first but it certainly has exceeded my expectations. My parents recently purchased the same TV you just got and I have to say that's one bad ass screen. I like the curved look as well .

How is the Upscaler on the Visio? I was reading that Samsung's is extremely good. I can't wait to see for myself on Thursday!!

I noticed the Visio P series is pretty close in price (at 65", I think the flat Samsung is 2100 vs 1999 Visio), at least when the Sammy is on Sale. I do wonder about built quality on the Visio, but the full array LEDs I'm sure are nice, and only available for Samsung 9000+ series. I paid 2500 after taxes for the curved. It's a lot of money, so I hope I love it when it arrives!

I really like the implications for color on the Sammy in the future.

The build quality is excellent . Even has a silver Basel all the alway around it. You can tell right off the bat the the p series is a big step up compared the other other vizio series . From the research I did vizio failure rate is no different then any other brand . They are all relatively low .
My sister has had her vizio for over 5 years now and is still kicking with 0 issues . I had more issues with my panny vt 60 inch plasma that was purchased in 2011 then any other tv I have ever owned . I most likely just got a leamon but that can happen with any brand . I still do miss the plasma technology though . Just can't beat the viewing angles . However on a good note , my great room no longer heats up to 80 degrees anymore . Lol

The upscaler does a pretty good job. Cable content looks the same as it did on my plasma . But my Fios tv box upscales the images to 1080p before it sends out to my tv . But cable does have noticeable less pixel quality verses steaming native 1080p content with Netflix , Hulu , and vudu . YouTube . 4K native content looks incredible . If you Have a Netflix account don't forgot to upgrade your account to 4K content. I think it was an extra 2 or 3 more dollars a month but it's well worth it . They have a lot of of shows that are 4k. I was a late bloomer to breaking bad and all of the episodes are 4K on Netflix so that was a treat .

I thought the same, but got unlucky with an 18 month black screen. Costco's 2 year warranty saved the day! And their repair service does all the grunt work. It would suck if I had to haul my 60" heavy-ass plasma to a repair shop.

I'd never pay $500 for a warranty, but somehow Costco's +3 year warranty (making it 5 total years) is only $100. I'm doing cheap warranties from now on.

My 2010 Panny Plasma 60" S series bombed out, but saved by Costco's warranty. Looks like both of us got lemons. I bought it in 2011, but pretty sure the actual release date was a 2010 year. Luckily, it's been fine ever since it got fixed in 2012.

There was actually a YT video how to fix it, but no way any normal guy could fix it. But whose going to open a tv, mess around with the circuit board and such with specialized tools?

Is what makes my wife cool with all my gaming! I am perpetually earning kitchen passes!!! She tried to hang with my home improvement projects once.... once....
Right, just providing the dialogue to the Simpsons image. Wasn't trying to imply that you were lacking.

I'm only funnin' ;)

Gotta say, the TV is awesome so far, but I'm annoyed that I am locked out of access to the RGB mode for calibration for some reason. It IS nice to have a TV with a snappy interface :)

Very glad I went with the curved screen- even my wife was talking about how much more depth she felt. The main issue is that it's so hi-res that I can see the compression in even high quality streaming- though the xbox video streaming is still very impressive. It also has an annoying side effect of me constantly wondering how much better everything would look in 4k :) That curve and extra 10 inches makes a huge difference in immersion. There were times I felt like I was personally in motion!

For games, I noticed that native 1080p and 720p rendering looks much better than the off-res' stuff like 900p. It's weird when RDR looks somehow sharper than DOOM, lol. Hell, DOOM looks downright blurry where Forza 6 looks absolutely stunning. Halo 5 looks incredible too. It makes me want to go through every game and see the effect.

So, I pulled the trigger....BOOM!

Same TV I have except mine is the 55 inch version.

I'm jealous you get to experience this for the first time. My eyes are used to it now so the wow factor is just about gone.

Yeah, I figured to would fade eventually, but there is no turning back! Still, I haven't seen any real 4k suff on it yet.

Just rent a 4K movie on vudu. Netflix has lots of 4K stuff as well . Pacific rim is a great movie to rent on vudu to see just how good HDR and 4K look .

That all streams? I have unlimited data @200gbps (supposedly). I imagine I'd have to stream Netflix right through the TV as the X1 doesn't have a 4K connection?

Yes, I've been watching Breaking Bad in 4K it's pretty sweet. Just need a UHD bluray player and I'm set.

Yes. You stream right through the set on yours with the included apps that came with your tv . For me .. I cast everything through my smart phone or the included tablet for my Vizio . That's how the steaming works on my set . Just make sure your tv is connected to your router over wifi .

If you have Netflix they have a 4K section

Watch the ones where they film waterfalls, flowers, rainforests and other places. It is amazing.

As long as you have upgraded your account to view 4K content on Netflix . YouTube has some good 4K stuff a swell . Just search 4k

Oh yeah, forgot about the Vizio chat.

When it's time to buy a new tv in a year or so, I'm going to scope out a Samsung or Vizio. The prices for Vizio seem too good to be true sometimes for what you get! When it's time to pull the trigger:

Samsung/Vizio > Panny/LG > Sharp > Sony

I am looking at either the 49 inch or 55 inch Sammy. How is this on FPS stuff. Any ghosting or lag?

None. I always use game mode to kill as much lag as possible. It feels spot on to me. As with any game mode, It won't look a good as other modes, but those do introduce lag.

Here in the UK the LG has dropped to £1049 with an extra 10% its now under the magic £1k for me:
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/tv-and...d-4k-ultra-hd-hdr-49-led-tv-10144245-pdt.html

but the sammy which is still at £1399 can now be price matched down to £1175
http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/samsung/ue49ks8000/sams-ue49ks8000

Which one do I go for? The size of the room 49 inch is big enough......

Pulled the trigger today on the LG.......so so happy I did. Had a brilliant deal on the LG.

I am now 4K ready bring on the One S and the Scorpio

I'm thinking of doing it all in one big upgrade a year from now. Holiday deals will ensure I get good value on the TV. I fully expect to be blown away. I have never upgraded console and TV at one time much less a generational jump to 4K. I still have memories of attaching the box with a butter knife to the back of a color!!!! 19 inch set. Gaming has come so far.
