So what do you guys reckon? Ps5 disc edition will match SeriesX and maybe the digital version at least 50 bucks cheaper? Sony has the appeal to come in a bit pricier but seriesS might be very appealing in this Covid climate.

I think they'll go hard and have the digital edition be $100 cheaper, it wouldn't be worth making a second model for only a $50 price difference plus every game sold for each digital edition will be sold through PSN so they'll be making over twice as much per game sale as they do for physical discs, in a very short time they'd make back any money lost on the hardware and they'd start making larger profits than they do on the standard edition. I've said before I think the standard model will be $499 and the digital will be $399 so we'll see how that goes.

With it being only digital would that deter some purchasers?

I guess Microsoft finally got their way....I just hope there’s no mandatory checkin or have to set it to home or really just let it out of the box let you play offline without having to jump through a bunch of hoops/menus to do so

and am I the only one who thought it was an adaptive controller at first glance?

Being all digital wouldn't turn me off from buying a console if I wanted it, I haven't bought a game disc in years, I'd rather buy a digital Series X than a Series S if I were to buy one at all though.

A $299 machine that provides meaningful upgrades to existing games while still being able to play next gen games/use next gen tech etc would be incredibly great value, just depends what it's packing.

Yeah I don't know what kind of meaningful upgrades you'd get with this one though other than maybe some framerate improvements. If you had a One X you are probably already getting games at a lower native res on this thing but the CPU and storage are going to be a lot better.

So, after watching the Nvidia videos, it really got me wondering. That DLSS 2.0 upscale looks amazing!!! It looks virtually the same as true 4K/8K. Could Series S do machine learning upscale to 4K? Using ML to upscale has also already been demonstrated by Microsoft on FH3 a couple years back, and maybe could be implemented using DirectML, which seemed to be designed for this type of task.

The only argument that I could think of against, is what about Series X? Why pay $200 more for nearly similar results? That's when I thought of how much Microsoft is pushing 120fps on Series X. Is it possible that they are using ML upscale in order to have a 120fps mode (running with RT, but at a lower native res)?

Maybe I'm off base here, but I feel like if this is a reality with the new Nvidia RTX 30 cards, why not? It sounds like the RDNA2 GPUs could have similar capability, but only if the software is there.

Haven’t used the disk drive once on my One X and since 2014 on the original Xbox One.

I have only used the drive on mine to watch a 4K movie once because I just wanted to see what kind of quality it had vs my dedicated 4K blu ray player, never have used the disc drive on that console for a game. Once I switched over to digital on my PS4 there was no going back, it's just so much more convenient and I don't have to worry about having a place to put dozens of physical games and watching them pile up until I end up trading them in.

I give MS a A+ for the specs, price and package. Both boxes look great and the S has some portability going on. I can see traveling or taking it to a friends house thing going on. Heading in to the unknown of what these boxes are going to be I think most Xbox fans wanted the clear tech advantage. Mission accomplished and what will likely be very cost competitive with PS5.

nah, both the one and this “fake news” Lockhart shouldn’t hold back developers. But from what some at 343 have been saying that halo infinite will be a reboot/platform for halo then it clearly shouldn’t be made for the one. As a new “halo platform” how far can it continue with the one? They just need to “let it go”
The one will and is. If the one isn't an issue then they don't need to let it go.

Oh man this is gonna be hot! Great price for that performance. Needs bigger HHD though.

Actually, it won’t be 512, 100 of that will go to game/data streaming and 4 of it will go to the os... 408 ladies and lads

mr money, will you adopt me
I am surprised by the small HHD sizes in these next gen consoles. 512, 825 and 1TB.

The problem is a game like COD can take up half that space in the blink of an eye. Even with smart delivery games are still going to be pretty big. If say you want to play Destiny and COD on that, you're basically done at that point.
