That isn't what i'm saying. We have no idea how these might be restructured, or how MS might impact them. That doesn't instantly mean "bad" things. I mean growing Beth Soft could lead to higher quality polish. Something Beth Soft aren't great at. Or MS could try and force MP in Skyrim. We just don't know. Which is the point.
I'm just saying these new studios are unproven under this new leadership. Avowed should be a good barometre compared to previous titles like Outerworlds and Pillars of eternity.
That's all pretty far fetched considering that
MS actually needs them to make great games in order to sell
Xbox Game Pass. The last thing they want to do is destroy the reputation of the studio.
Fallout 76, for example, was created because they (
Robert Trump) wanted to be able to show potential buyers that they had consistent income. That was irrelevant to
Microsoft. They ended up buying up the studio because they needed top quality exclusives. So there's no reason to try and force
Bethesda to make a multi-player game.
If anything
Fallout 76 shows you just how opposed to making multi-player games
Bethesda Softworks truly is. They bought a little studio and pushed
Fallout 76 on them rather than put multi-player in the new upcoming
Starfield game.
Microsoft isn't going to come in overnight and destroy the culture of those studios. It's possible that might happen over the course of several years, but definitely not before this next console generation has passed.
I don't expect Obsidian to take too many risks with
Avowed. They copied a pretty safe formula with
The Outer Worlds and I expect them to do the same with their next game.
