It didn't help that EA basically refused to develop or publish games for the Dreamcast. Personally I credit them more with the demise of the DC than I do Sony or SEGA. IIRC EA kept going on about how they weren't going to developer for the Dreamcast because it was a dead platform or something along those lines. So when the largest publisher in the world is telling consumers that the Dreamcast is a lost cause it kind of makes that happen.
Yup. It was tiresome way back at TXB. If you're critical of the XB1 you're automatically a "PS Fanboy". They don't even bother to read the content of your post(s) to see that perhaps you're just a fan of video games that's disappointed in how BOTH companies released sub-par hardware. Nope. If you're critical of one console that means you're a fanboy of the other.

Really? I'm pretty sure you can find the Dreamcast failed do to lack of support from EA then piracy was the final nail in the coffin. The devs jumped ship from Dreamcast. Sony @ that time was the sure bet for games as xbox was late to the party and unknown. This is where the software went and it dictated the success of that gen. The relative ease of developing on 360 last gen vs PS3 helped xbox gain marketshare last gen even though the power hype for cell was just as big for PS2's emotion engine so there is the hole in your point of powah vs games people want to play.
Val is correct price point is a bigger determining factor over power. If your console has 2 of the 3 determining factors you're setup for success in my opinion though. PS4 has the power and price point the games side so far may be in xb1's favour for the moment exclusive wise but that is subjective.

Any console can run games at 1080p it depends on the sacrifices that need to be made. Of cause it has games that don't show a difference because they are the games that don't push the consoles in the area the ps4 is faster, we have already seen 5 games with major differences and these consoles have been out for how long?

The PS2 didn't really take off until much later though. Plus it was because of the games. Many great classic games that came out after the other consoles launched.
Edit: I forgot about the whole EA snubbing DC deal. Yeah that didn't help.

The only thing Kinect will prove to be essential for is those that can use it to assist (some that may have a disability) them in the ability to help control their gaming and media experience and give them opportunities.
Other than that, Kinect will NEVER be essential. Optical disks are almost no longer essential, as the move continues to digital downloads. I suspect the next innovation should be smaller and more affordable storage devices, faster devices, and a focus on improving the internet connections worldwide...or find a way to reduce the size of files. Maybe a company needs to think outside the box. Do files need to be 50gb? Or is there a new file format that can be invented?
I don't think it was realistic to even expect it to.
Maybe in the future Kinect like devices will be second nature.
So all you are really trying to say is that graphics power of the hardware in comparison to the competition does not have any real effect and that it's really only a matter of whether or not it was the first console of the new generation to be released.
At the time of the PS2's release, it wasn't clear cut that it was head and shoulders over the DC. On paper yes. But the games didn't show it for awhile.
PS2 was almost pirated just as much as the dreamcast. It was only a tiny bit harder to do. Back when the Dreamcast came out the avg person didn't even have a CD burner. I know because at the time I was in like the 9th or 10th grade and I sold dreamcast games at school for 15-20 bucks a pop lol. I made a lot of money selling games and music cd's back then. It's funny I remember back on TXB everyone used to say how the ps2 killed dreamcast not because of EA but because of lies from sony.

It's really not that hard man. If the system comes out first then obviously it's the most powerful at the time of release. It doesn't get beat in power until a year + later when a new system comes out. I really don't see what is so hard to understand.
I repeat! if said console is first to release in a generation than it is obviously the most powerful console to be out in said generation! until the competition releases!
So all you are arguing is that the first console of a generation to release wins, regardless of having much weaker chips than the competition and despite the console remaining weakest for five out of six years of the generation.
Dreamcast was first, did it win? if xbox wasn't more powerful than the ps2 do you think it would have sold even half as well as it did? I surely don't believe so. I personally never would have bought og xbox if it wasn't way more powerful than ps2. You are generalizing if you truly believe no one considers power when they buy a system.

Playstation 2 was the most powerful of its time in 2000 (releasing +1 years after Dreamcast. That's a long time, right?)
The Gamecube was the most powerful of its time in 2001.
And the Xbox was the most powerful of its time in late 2001.
So why did the PS2 win? You kept on going on about "the most powerful of its time," but then why can't you explain the logic behind this? Why do you keep dodging this question? The PS2 was clearly the weaker console for five out of the six years of the generation. Do you give up because you cannot explain this phenomenon?

The games weren't good for a year with the exception of Tekken Tag which looked better then Soul Calibur.
