Yep this seems right on track for MS. Good lead up then fumble the message. How Greenberg still is in his role is beyond me. At this point silence is golden.

If asscreed ends up 30fps I blame the idiots at Ubisoft.

It's a cross gen launch game, the engine likely isn't 100% designed to take advantage of next gen console architecture yet. It's not like PC's get AC games running at 4K and 60fps without some sacrifices to visual quality. People are expecting a lot out of these machines but just because Spencer keeps talking framerates and Greenberg put his foot in his mouth AGAIN it doesn't mean that 60fps will be the standard next gen. I'm sure we'll see more devs offering performance options and more games overall that run at 60fps but I don't believe that the majority of next gen games will be 60fps, it would be nice and I'd love to be surprised but I wouldn't count on it, at least not when devs are just getting the hang of the hardware and having to work on multiple hardware sku's for Sony and MS along with Stadia and PC.

It's the devs fault period.

It's not their "fault" because they didn't do anything wrong it's what they chose to do with the time and resources they had, they aren't idiots or lazy it's just that the can only do so much with the time they have. There are likely over a thousand people working on this game in one way or another but they have to make it work on PS4, PS4 Pro, PS5, Xbox 1, 1S, 1X, XSX, Stadia and PC, it's been in development for under 3 years so it's not going to be everything to everyone as a launch title. Maybe if they gave us the exact same settings as PS4 Pro or X1X they could do 60fps but I'm sure they are adding a lot of graphical upgrades because these are next gen consoles and most people think of graphics when they think next gen.

Give them time to make some improvements to their engine and the ability to focus on only the next gen consoles and they'll either start hitting 60fps or making games that look significantly better.

Personally I don’t mind 30 fps games. Obviously shooters, fighting and racing games I prefer 60 but open world games and RPG’s I’d prefer 30 with the visuals crancked up to max.
As Jinca mentioned previously, some engines are designed for 30 fps and it takes some serious power to push those games up to 60 (More than double the power). If gamers demand 60 then a lot of those games are going to look like current gen games. It would be a silly mandate and devs will do what they’ve done every generation and choose visuals over frame rate when they can.

The standard is 60fps.
The standard is not a mandate.
So 60fps is therefore NOT the standard.

Someone needs to gag Greenberg, people are still quoting the dumb s*** he said early Xbox One gen and he seems to be off to an equally goofy path with Series X.

So people called out Aaron when it was announced that AC was 30fps, but they didn't call him out when they announced Dirt 5 was 120fps. 120fps =/= 60fps standard.

Well, standard doesn't always mean mandate though.

But yes, he's clearly not the right spokesperson lol

Yeah, and they look like it.
Yes, and that's why I personally prefer 30fps in everything except racing and fighting games. I much rather have assassins creed at a locked 30 with as much effects and res as possible than 60 with less. That's my opinion of course but I'm fairly certain most casuals will get hooked by Graphics > Performance whence why most devs go that route still considering it's entirely possible to nerf the rest and go higher in fps for many games released this far.

120fps capability was announced a year ago.

Outside of that, Greenberg said 60fps was their standard, which anyone reading would take to mean the minimum acceptable as anything less would be substandard.

In most cases, sure, but with technology it tends to be meant to state the minimum acceptable. If that's not what he meant then he was clearly being misleading.

I think he's doing a decent job with marketing, but whenever he starts talking about the actual technology he seems to immediately put his foot in his mouth.

Yeah. They've come too far to stsrt messing up now. Greenberg needs to have a waffle and STFU.

And the thing is, with all the tech and services Xbox is providing with the Series X, it will basically sell itself. Its shaping up to be the most impressive xbox ever. If they would just talk about some of their strengths( Cross generational play, Game-pass, Backwards compatibility, Xbox Velocity Architecture etc.) more and show some games that appear to be next gen, that would go a long way to exhibiting the xbox brand. Instead we're starting to get a muddled message that will confuse and sometimes anger consumers.

Despite all that though, unless they take a MAJOR misstep with marketing or price, the series x is going to sell like hot cakes in Nov-Dec and will probably be hard to find in stock until March or April of 2021.

I don't know about that. IMO they need to show their weakness( 1st part exclusives) is no longer a massive weakness.

Yep. As long as it isn't a fast paced game and its stable (rock solid), I have zero problems with 30fps. Hell, I played all through the Witcher3 at 30fps on the one X (even though it has a 60fps option). Same with Forza Horizon 4- though I would have preferred those visuals with 60fps. Racing really does benefit. I like nice visuals. I play for escapism as much as the sport/challenge.

Halo should stay 60fps too because it IS about tight control as well as story
