Black Panther Movie

He gave out 3/5 which to me shows the flaw in RT because I don't consider that bad or rather rotten.

How dare you not consider an imperfect score an outrage! Yeah 3/5 is average and not negative it's just not glowing but in today's climate if you don't praise something to the heavens you are considered a hater and even worse if the thing you are reviewing is based on a minority group of any kind or women then you are also sexist, racist, homophobic or transphobic if you don't say watching a fictional story meant as entertainment changed your life for the better.

Its stupid to ignore other black superheroes/heroes but its also stupid to think that is why its praised. There are a lot of movies with a black cast that don't get praised.

But it shows how s***ty Hollywood is that a movie like this in 2018 could be considered groundbreaking for those reasons

Reminds me of Trevor Noah and Gabriel Iglesias saying when they first started they were to as “black/latino/hispanic-comedians” and they from the start just wanted to be called a “comedian”

Love those two blokes...and I’ll digress :p

I thought it was fine but nothing special, if you go by social media it was the first strong female character ever in a movie and she inspired the world lol. I guess those people have never seen one of the many other strong women in movies and tv over the last few decades. One area that the movie really fell flat was in the special effects, especially in the first half. The CGI was really weak in many parts of it which seems to be a theme with DC movies so far and that really needs to be addressed in future films. Gal Gadot is a beautiful woman but she's not an amazing actress, she doesn't convey emotion very well, she's not awful but I have a hard time believing that they couldn't have found someone with more range. At the end of the day it was wasn't as good as many said just as BvS wasn't as bad as others said, they were both decent but could have been much better.

The effects were fine in WW. The only thing that looked bad was the battle on the beach, but not sure if that was effects or wire work.

Could have been worse, they could have cast Megan Fox or Lady Gaga. lol.

That final sentence is true of most things, though. That is the problem with opinions, their spectrum is vast.

If this movie has nothing but Kendrick Lamar music all through it, that could be a challenge for me. Lol

I want to believe that's for the trailer. Marvel movies don't really have soundtracks. The days of Nickelback being the theme song for Spider-Man are over. Can't even remember the last time a Marvel movie had music that wasn't just score.

I watched it for the first time on a 4K blu ray, never saw it in the theater but I found most of the effects on the island didn't blend well with the people, I could easily tell what was very pretty CGI vs something that looked like it was connected to where the actors were. The stuff later in the movie looked fine but I found just about everything on the island to look more like it was from a pretty video game cut scene than a place that was supposedly taking place in the "real world"

On a different note I finally watched Spider-Man Homecoming last night and man that was a really fun movie, I liked that much more than I did Wonder Woman. It told a better story, had better action and the characters were much easier to feel a connection to.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

Highly underrated movie, imo. It had such an uphill battle with public perception, with everyone so desensitized to that character anymore.

The real key was in the realistic representation of a villain, imo. Well, his character was believable and you kind of sympathized as much as you disliked him. The two actually had some great chemistry together, and it was hard not to be nervous for Peter in some of those scenes.

Haven't seen it since the theater. Now I wanna watch it again.

I thought it was the best Spider-Man movie so far, the feel of the movie, the characters and the fact that I found Tom Holland far more likeable than anyone else who's played Spider-Man before helped a lot.

The scene when Michael Keaton confronts him in the car was amazing

Was alright but very over hyped.

Not even close to being Marvels best.

I don't even understand what critics have praised it for...the writing? The acting? The story? Nope - those RottenTomatoes reviews pretty much praise it simply because Black Panther is black. Sad.

Yep. Sadly it's being reviewed on the colour of its cast rather than the film itself.

It's not bad but no way near good enough to justify it's current 98% RT.

Yes

But this movie was always in a lose lose for some when it comes to reviews.

If it got reviewed negatively some would say its just because the cast is black which would be ridiculous because that ignores all the black movies that got positive reviews

If its reviewed positively some would say its just because the cast is black which would be ridiculous because that ignores all the black movies that got negative reviews.

That’s just racist, not saying you are but those who would go on to say that.

What did people say of Blade when it came out, wasn’t it marvels first r rated movie?

I’m going into this movie like most others, I don’t know squat of the character. The only mainstream hero’s I’ve known going in was Spider-Man, Batman, Superman and what ever in-your-face-superhero that were on basic tv in the late 90s.

I am not saying that as I don't think race is having any significant impact on how its reviewing. Race is going to get mentioned in reviews because race is relevant to the movie.

It may not deserve its scores but there are countless movies everyone would say that about without looking for any theories as to why.

I personally have a problem going to see a movie that was made to appease a race, be it black or white. I have no desire to see Black Panther so that black people are represented. Just like if it were White Panther, and was to represent white people. I wouldn't want to see it.

I want to see movies to enjoy them, and not have to worry about a political agenda such as a race. White to be white or black to be black. I saw the previews for this movie, and I knew nothing about a Black Panther. I just assumed it was a marvel comic book that had a black lead and it looked good. And that works for me. But if it was intentionally created for the purpose of black (or white), then I have no desire. Because now when I watch the movie, I will sit there and try to read too much into the agenda, instead of enjoying super powers.

If Spiderman was black, then that's cool. But if Spiderman was originally white, don't go and make him black to appeal to subset of consumers. Just keep things as they were. Now, going forward, if you want to create all new characters, black, white, asian or whatever, boom! Do it. Do it because the lead is a good lead, do it because it fits. Don't do it to create an equal % just for the sake of equal percent.

I guess I am too much of a simpleton, and I just look at everyone as an equal.

Yeah I'm just saying it's starting to come off like that. Too many mentions of black cast. Just say a good film with a talented cast from top to bottom. Shouldn't matter what colour skin they have.
Love this post.

Of course the race of the cast should be mentioned in a movie where race plays an important role. If it makes people uncomfortable then they should look in a mirror as to why.

Nearly every movie ever made is targeted at 25-40 year old white men and women.

It wouldn't be the first movie overhyped for various reasons. So not a big deal if it is.
I've only seen Fruitvale Station, but I'm interested to see what the director does with this genre.

I will prolly rent it later. I am getting burnt out on super hero movies. I watched wonder woman 2 weeks ago and it was good but it's time for a break. It's like the milking of Star Wars.
