Nowhere does it say most powerful console ever anymore, it did earlier in 2020 though. I do see most powerful Xbox ever front and centre though.

I would say because they can't really claim to be the fastest console just most powerful but just wanted to have the phrase "fastest and most powerful" for marketing purposes.

Besides all that, it's true. So there should be no issue with them still claiming to be the worlds most powerful console.

Summary:

- Both XsX and PS5 run in dynamic 4k on Performance Mode
- Lowest pixel count was around 1440p, highest was native 4k (rare cases), runs mostly around 1620p on both PS5 and XsX
- 60 fps locked on both PS5 and XsX
- They observed screen tearing in a specific scenario (instances when dynamic resolution changes quickly and drastically like when looking at sky then looking straight down) on both Series X and PS5. Same on both. Rare in typical gameplay.
- Very well optimized on all NG consoles

- Quality Mode aims for 4k but locks at 30 fps, maintains 4k well on both XsX and PS5. Locked 4k as far as Tom can tell but says there could possible be small dips
- 30 FPS lock on both XsX and PS5, no drops

- Series S - Dynamic 1080p, lowest pixel count was 720p in Performance mode. Can go as high as 1440p in Quality mode

Switch Version

- Drastically scaled back geometry, foliage density, texture detail (especially at distance)
- Basically everything in the distance is scaled down
- SSR gone, shadow quality lowered
- Dynamic 720p while docked
- Framerate dips below 30 and resolution doesn't seem to drop as aggressively as you would expect to compensate
- Peaks at 504p in portable mode
- Framerate typically below 30
- 20-30 FPS range in any given situation
- Frame pacing issues as well

They haven't used the old one since that PR from launch. That was it. Looks like they are moving away from that narrative.

Old? Is everything older than 1 second old to you? I mean, games that came out 6 months ago you call old. Can you give us your time line on what you consider old?

Rift comes out in June this year. Let me guess, it's old?

Show us where Sony changed their hardware since their release date for the PS5.

MS haven't moved away from that narrative though. Here is all their NON-OLD PR:

MS still claiming they have the worlds most powerful console.

  • Xbox Series X, the most powerful gaming console
  • MORE IMMERSIVE AND RESPONSIVE GAMES FROM THE WORLD’S MOST POWERFUL CONSOLE
  • The bold and unique industrial design enables us to deliver the most powerful console in the quietest and most efficient way, enabling it to fit seamlessly into your home.
  • Xbox Series X delivers over 12 TFLOPS of sustained, consistent GPU performance, making it the most powerful console ever.
  • When a developer’s creativity is backed by the most powerful gaming platform in the world

Even after launch, STILL worlds most powerful console:

Xbox Series X, the most powerful next-generation console, empowers developers to deliver on their creative visions and dreams. It packs an unprecedented 12 teraflops of GPU power and enables new technologies and features like framerates up to 120 fps, hardware-accelerated Direct X raytracing, variable rate shading, and Quick Resume, which enables players to resume exactly where they left off, across multiple titles, ensuring they can get right back to the fun in an instant. Xbox Series X delivers a new level of fidelity, immediacy, precision and accuracy never before seen in console gaming.

June, June, November. Anything in 2021? I've asked this like 3 times now.

Where are all the most powerful console ever ads, why are they all switched to most powerful Xbox ever now if the narrative is the same? Is it like a see saw? 2020 is most powerful console ever, 2021 most powerful Xbox, 2022 most powerful again?

How many times have I asked you when Sony changed their hardware on the PS5 since launch to make it more powerful than the Xbox Series X? Was it in 2021? I know their 2020 hardware in the PS5 is old.

When did MS remove all their PR stating that Xbox isn't the worlds most powerful console. It's 2021, and they are still claiming it. Are they removing it in 2022 for when the PS5 Pro debuts maybe?

How is the XSX more powerful if the PS5 has the slight advantage in some head to heads in the new titles released since launch? Maybe when the tools are ready, MS will bring back out the most powerful console ever ads?

I think they wanted to play safe and they were right because so far it seems like the head to heads are a wash with some in favour of the PS5, some in favour of the Xbox. If they kept the same narrative, questions will be asked like how is it that the most powerful console ever lose in head to heads? Wouldn't it always be ahead? The PS4 was always ahead of the Xbox One. I can't recall the last time the Xbox One was ahead. Did Sony claim most powerful console ever? I don't believe so, they just let their games do all the talking, just like this gen.

Back to agree to disagree until we do this again next month.

It is the most powerful console, this is fact, I'm not sure why they wouldn't put it up there, fastest not so much if we're comparing paper specs.

Heads to head don't matter, we're talking paper specs, if the SSD is twice as fast as the xbox why does xbox load faster in a lot of head to heads? Are you talking about sales? Of course the ps4s always been ahead, the 1X was a fantastic machine but just didn't have games like God of War or tsushima to really pump out great looking exclusives (except for gears 5 and FH4) which are amazing looking games with incredible free upgrades.

That I don't know the reason. Exclusives are loading significantly faster on the PS side in Miles and Demon's Souls so the only explanation I imagine is that multiplatform devs are still getting accustomed to optimizing load times. Yet another reason why paper specs don't paint the whole picture.

I'm talking about actual resolution/performance. It was a large gap in the beginning of the PS4/X1 gen. I remember 900p/1080p for PS4, while X1 was doing 720p/900p. Performance was better on the PS4 as well. The gap was definitely larger compared to this gen so far.

So xss is the switch version with 60fps

Imagine buying a next-gen console to play dynamic 1080p, going as low to 720p, at 60FPS.

I think it'll be the same or worse as the graphical demand increases in future titles. XSS is supposed to be a 1440p target console, right? Probably will target that resolution dynamically at 30 FPS and dynamic 1080p / 60 FPS going forward.

Next Gen Consoles don't run like that. 💩

Tekphan, come get ya boy! In addition to some of your dudes fighting with Microsoft engineers on Twitter today calling them liars about RDNA2, they're eating each other. Let them know that you look up to them and need them to act better.

Sony's geometry engine a generation more advanced than Series X but we'll have to wait a few years to see the results? Seems like a great strategy of Sony to keep their devs in the dark or under NDA about the true power of the system. 3D chess right there!

Like...none of this s*** really matters. I'm somewhat captivated watching it all burn today though.
