Dragon Age: Inquisition - Nov. 18

Thanks guys. Its been a while since I play an RPG this deep. I played Mass effect, Deus Ex & Witcher 2, fable 3 & the likes, & they are more straight forward when it comes to crafting & equipments.

Kudos to Bioware for not dumbing down the mechanism for the 'COD' crowds.

The crafting here is simple too when you understand the basic mechanics of it. You just go to the crafting screen and try a few out and you will have down. While I will not say it is dumbed down it is not as deep or complicated as it first appears. The trick to crafting though lies not in the main material which governs the overall dps & armor rating, but in those you put in the offensive & defensive slots.
You need to know what is best forr the character you are making it for. An archer for example you want to get things like cunning, willpower, flanking damage & maybe melee defense. For a Warrior you would want things like strength, melee defense & constitution, maybe guard damage too.

I personally am going to try and build an armor and weapon combo to max out my archers critical chance. Right now it is very low at like 9%. Not sure how high you can get it but if I could 50% then my archer could be pretty damn deadly.

I miss the tactics of dragon age origins where i could micro manage what i want each character to do and when, i guess that's just me been OCD with games like this in reality the AI does a good job of using skills for the given situation.

I've been focusing too much on mage offense and Varric is useless with just bianca, i took him along the templar quest for a bit of banter and ran into the final boss and am getting absolutely destroyed. I'm thinking about reloading an earlier save and taking the mage route but i like Templars more, I might take in Solas and Viv with Iron Bull and just forget about the rouge for this fight.

Varric is pretty useless in fights. So is Sera, that is if you're an Archer then there is no point in having two. Two mages is my standard with one Tank and I'm the Archer.

Woot! Have destroyed my first dragon

Killed my first one yesterday as well! :D

I'm considerably behind you guys. I only encountered (then ran away from) my first dragon a couple days ago.

*sigh*

Any news on the patch btw?

No, sorry, nothing yet.

Question.

Whats the power icon? The one with a man carry a flag (top left of option screen). I have power 3 now. No idea what it does.

Power unlocks missions on the war table, which opens up new areas. It also allows you to progress the main storyline. You'll also see that same indicator when looking at potential quests. In that case, it's telling you how many power points you get from completing the mission.

Y'know, the lack of any sort of manual is a bitch for this game. The amount of things you have to learn by ear is grating as all Hell.

But my biggest disappointment is probably the lack of more meaningful dialogue options. Where is my option to tell that Cassandra bitch that I don't believe in her stupid Maker? Seriously, motherf*** the religious undertones of this game. Keep that preaching to yourselves,Bioware...

Thanks Andy.

Anyway, my inquisitor

10 hours in now, & I am feel like I barely scratching the surface. The game throw so much stuff at you!

Only opened 3 camps so far in Hinterlands...

I think I ended up playing through the intro like 5 times trying to get my character right. Eventually said screw it and went with a mullet. Good lord is that hair awful.

Game is awesome so far though, loving all the detail and lore you can dive into if you so choose. Also combat is pretty fun, with my biggest gripe being the tactical cam when a roof is involved.

Think I just finished the longest mission in gaming history, took me over an hour :surprise:

Thanks Andy.

Cullen's little cousin ?

Who thought it was a good idea to capitalise everything? Make text hard to read, so I barely read all the notes & codex stuff.

Also the text & tips disappear so fast, (not helped that they can appear suddenly) that I often barely able to finish reading what it tries to say. They should make it like Dishonored or similar, the text stay open until you press a button to close it.

Have now finished 8 of the 10, and for the first time I used Sera, when I saw what the Thousand Cuts did to the level 23 dragon together with mark of the rift it became much easier, about 30 % of dragons health was gone after the two combined attacks.

Is the number next to your saves the numbers of hours played? Mine says 106. That's not true. That's impossible!

I think the font in co-op could be bigger too & there's some "rubberbanding" feeling issues when you're not host playing with four people.

A couple questions.

1. Is there any use for money? I've been collecting a lot, but I haven't had reason to spend a dime. After 40 hours of playtime, you'd think I'd have found something to buy. What's the use of money in this game? Buying schematics?

2. Is it worth it, to collect all the shards? Collecting the first four opened up an area, so that was cool, but after that, there haven't been any rewards that I've noticed. Is this one of those collect-a-thon things, meant for completionists? I sometimes have fun tracking down the shards, but if there isn't any reward, then I won't bother. So, is there any point to finding the shards?

There actually is an option to tell her you don't believe in the maker :p when you talk to her at Haven.

Found it cool that reading a note paid off in a way that would have otherwise been missed (i.e no quest or marker). Downside is that now I feel like I have to read everything.

Yeah i'm definitely learning that the hard way, was getting so fustrated with the boss so now i'm just doing missions here and there where i can and upgrading my 2 mages with better gear. My guys a two handed warrior and i usually take Bull with me too.

I know some games keep track of your time if your Xbox is set to instant on, It did that with Shadow of Mordor i had over 100 hours haha.

1. Money becomes essential if you are not crafting new weapons and armor as Vendors get alot of high level stuff later on that is expensive.

2. Not really. There is a reward for it and a quest/s associated with it. I don't want to spoil the reward of collecting all the shards, but it wasn't worth it in my opinion.

Actually there are certain lines of dialogue where you can actually say that you don't believe in the Maker and that your badassitude comes from hard work and quest grinding :D

Well, maybe not that last part, but when the talk of the Maker comes up, I have had options to tell Cassandra that I don't believe in it straight forward.

Um, there is a guy Val Royeaux that has a item in his inventory worth 10grand. It leads to a quest, don't know what that quest is, but Gold is hard to come by in this game, so I'm not spending anything drastic til I feel comfortable. Some of the merchants in Val Royeaux have some pretty nice gear if you wanna look into it.

Other than an achievement? I dunno, still trying to collect em.

Yup. Bioware supports diversity in all its forms, including religious. ;)

Thanks, showers. I think I heard something similar elsewhere, about the shards not being worth it. I won't make a point of collecting them, then. That's good; it'll save me some trouble.

I'm paying some attention to crafting, but so far, most of the stuff I find in the field is better than the crafted stuff. The crafted additions can help, though (e.g., hafts, runes, etc.). I'm still early on -- strange to say that at 40 hours -- so that may change.

Um, there is a guy Val Royeaux that has a item in his inventory worth 10 grand.

Oh yeah, that guy. "It's not about the item, it's about purchasing the item." Sounds like a scam to me, although I'll bet something interesting happens if you do pay the 10K. I haven't heard what actually happens.

Some of the merchants in Val Royeaux have some pretty nice gear if you wanna look into it.

I'll check it out.

I finished all the quests in the Hinterlands that I'm able to, so I'm wandering the Storm Coast now.

I got a skill point in the forbidden oasis, and you can only get it by collecting shards.

Nearly finished the Hinterlands just gonna come back and close a couple rifts and slay the dragon when i'm stronger. Just wandering around with 43 power haha.
