There are quite a few AA games coming but I wouldn't say most of these studios are working on AA games. Maybe Compulsion. Undead Labs? Some of these studios have grown since Booty said that.
They aren't turning into 150-200 person teams, many of them probably were deficient to begin with.

Fresh content on a consistent basis is coming from 3rd party studios already. They need tentpole IPs that draw the attention of the masses. Netflix didn't have it's best growth from shovelware. Netflix's growth rate exploded once their Original content started winning awards. Nadella is on record saying they need IP. His bonus related to gaming this year has nothing to do with managing costs, revenue or income. It's all related to the number of subs. The head of a 2 trillion dollar company doesn't use "IP" to refer to mid tier stuff. You'll see AAA games regularly by the end of this year onwards. If it's not in their pipeline, they'll spend the money on 3rd party games. Again forget what was taken out of context in 2019.

Netflix is worth a quarter of a trillion dollars. More than double the entire worth of Sony. Gaming has more monetary upside than a TV streaming platform. The investment on the front end alone debunks cost controls for AAA content. It wouldn't make any sense. High level AAA games cost around 100 million+. Some of that cost per project could reduce due to the tools advancements and ML. They won't spend billions on the front end and then cheapen out before the payoff of AAA games.

You would've had a hard time believing Netflix could've ever achieved those numbers a few years into the era of TV streaming too. The market will be there in about 5 years. Just have to offer a great product. 100 million isn't a lot once 5G is mainstream. 400 million consumers buy consoles or gaming PCs and then spend another $60 to play games. In some markets, the going rate is extremely high compared to the US. The barriers for entry will be much lower with subs. Multiple platforms will hit that number in the next 10 years. Microsoft just wants to be the first and to go beyond that.
LOL You've totally bought in :) ML is now going to decrease the costs of game development in a meaningful way....

We won't be seeing AAA games regularly from first party you are living in a fantasy world if you think so. Most of the studios they bought aren't AAA devs and even if they add some staff they still won't be big enough. Booty's comments weren't taken out of context that was the line xbox only fans started spewing because they didn't like that he said it, his exact quote was pretty clear. Spending money on 3rd party AAA games for GP is going to be cost prohibitive after they start releasing first party games, AA or not they need to be the ones adding most of the content to the service.

1) don't be so sure 2) don't underestimate the impact of central support, better tools and outsourcing capabilities

The smallest studio (aside from the new ones still staffing up) is Compulsion who'll be around 100 people.

But they do have one, a competitor, it’s called PS Now, and they have a much bigger list of games.

It also came out long before game pass, the problem is it's mostly streaming and that's how it's always going to be unless Sony figures out a way to reliably play downloaded PS1-PS3 games on the PS5. I still don't get the appeal of playing anything before the 360 on xbox and even that is limited to a hand full of games for me. I'd much rather get modern remakes of the fable games than play them the way they look through BC especially Fable 2 which can look like a blurry mess in motion. The Witcher 2 would also be a great game for a remake but the "4K" clean up works nicely though BC, same with RDR, hopefully GTA4 will get that treatment one day, other than that there isn't anything I want to go back and play.

I talk to devs and also have more info about the goings on than I can share. Opinions aren't based on wishful thinking. Guess you'll have to wait and see. It's going to be a fun gen. Hope you and Val don't disappear once the curtains get pulled back.

Halo infinite has between 500-700 people and in 5 years couldn't make a game that looked "next gen" or even hit their launch window, they needed a full extra year (at least) so don't discount how badly poor management can impact studios and that's coming from the top not just the studio heads. None of this stuff has gotten better under Spencer.

Undead Labs last count was 60 and even with them hiring another 30 or so leaves them right around 100, that's still a small team by today's standards.

Just to give some perspective RARE had around 200 people working on sea of thieves and it launched with virtually nothing to do, a 100 or so person team is going to get you a AA game unless you give them a LOOONG time to work on it and I'm not talking 3-4 years.

Why would I? I've been here for YEARS lol, I have a Series X coming in the next couple of days, ordered it this morning like a moron lol but I still don't know what the hell I'm going to play on it for the next year or two. BTW It was really easy to get one, just follow the restock info on twitter, got one from gamestop this morning on my first try. Sadly they were only doing it through all access so like it or not I'm a GPU member for 2 years so yes I know I complain about GP but it was also the only way to get the system purchased today and my impatient impulse buying ass couldn't wait. I will probably use the service less than anyone else who has it lol.

Everything you said is either wrong or missing context.

Since the Booty comments which remain the foundation of the AA Game Pass fodder argument:
  1. Microsoft spent 7.5 billion on Bethesda
  2. Hired or posted for over 1000 job positions
  3. Head of company said they needed more and were shopping for IP
  4. They locked up many AA's through 3rd party

Netflix spent 17 billion last year on content with no way to recoup outside of the subscription. That's 85 Last of Us 2's. These models work with scale. You can't reach scale with bargain bin content.

I would because MS overall goals/intentions are not good is why.
Ultimately if it became the standard, options we have now would disappear and that's not good for the industry.
I don't trust them.

As far as the AAA games, I been hearing about these games since the latter 360 days.
They have had studios and IP's for a long time now.

I want them to address the non Gamepass gamers like me as we are the most important because we are the larger portion.

Microsoft bad. Everyone else good.

Admitting you're bias is never easy is it?

Netflix is on EVERY device and a household name.
Ima keep mentioning this when the dumb comparisons are made.

Most people don't know about Gamepass or even Xbox.

Intentions not good? Lol! What is that? None of these companies are running charities. It's business. As long as there's demand for traditional sales, they'll be offered. Why would they reduce their own profits by taking away a profitable option? Your mind is playing tricks on you man.
That's right and over the years MS has shown signs of how anti consumer they want to be.

Bias has nothing to do with MS own evils.

but it could be, on every device with a web browser...

Kinda makes me hope the Xbox mini fridge has a screen lol

Cool. Now to wait and see when it'll be added to games and how it helps the Xbox Series maintain better performance.
To be honest, Sony seems to be way ahead when it comes to implementing the newer rendering tech. On the other hand, MS hasn't released anything major yet either.

Hopefully E3 will show us what they're working on and that they will be pushing boundaries...

Agreed. Sony's just been letting their games do all the talking, Miles, a launch game already with that ML implementation tech. I won't even be surprised if some PS5 games releasing later this year will already be using some of FidelityFX features and the articles will come out later revealing that.

I don't think we are going to really see a true representation of what either console can do for another 2 years, they are still doing cross gen stuff and games are being made on engines that aren't going to fully utilize what the hardware is capable of.

Agree with this too. As long as games are cross gen, next gen consoles potential won't be fully realized as they are just running last gen engine codes with some sprinkle of next gen features here and there i.e. raytracing.

In comparison to what MS has attempted yes.

Fascinating.

I remember a $600 PS3.

Blocking cross platform play.

And paying to keep exclusives off other platforms.

I guess I just have a vivid memory of both platform holders pulling s***. Don't care how often....they both have done and both are capable of doing it often or not as often.

Interesting to know that Sony can do no wrong in your eyes.

Really? Cause I remember PS3 could be purchased for $500,included a bluray player that was better than most br players at the time which cost up to $1000 and never got 3D support.

I like the paying to keep stuff exclusive type business it works.
See Nintendo and Sony for example and on the losing side MS.

If you are saying that I don't critique Sony than you haven't been paying attention.

XSX will be more handicapped as its not so exclusive exclusives have to be made for dated tech like PC,xss and xbo.

PS5 will actually have exclusives and with its industry leading tech plus legendary devs... we will be blown away.
Returnal will likely be the best looking game followed by R & C.
