Project Scorpio v2.0

Well what we do know is that Microsoft wasn't at all satisfied with what was offered this year, so I think it's safe to assume that whatever they are going with next year is going to be significant enough to meet their own expectations for 4K gaming and high fidelity VR without compromises. Remember those are Spencer's bold words from E3.

"True 4k Visuals without sacrificing quality"

"Premiere VR experiences without sacrificing performance"

I don't think MS is going to take shortcuts the way Sony did with the Pro. Scorpio isn't just a bridge to higher resolutions, so I wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed their initial goal of 6TFs.
I hope you are right.

The Italian guy is talking to his source right now...he should be posting an update soon. I will post the horribly awesome translation here as soon as he posts it.

Considering the revealed spec is well above the competition's, I don't know why they would keep raising it. They could be weighing out the fact that a few extra bumps up wouldn't cost them that much more, if any. Still, I really don't see why the specs would end up being significantly greater than what they have already revealed, though.... unless the specs were all a front in the first place. I highly doubt it though. Now is where they need to hit a reasonable price point in order to make a viable consumer product.

It doesn't have to be cheap, per say. It really has to be a value, though. Whether it's as cheap as $450 or as expensive as $600, it has to really deliver for it's price.

Thinking about it a little more, I could see them saying they defiantly can't hit a $400 price point. "How much tech can we cram in there for a $500 p.p. next year?" Sony already undercut them on power/cost on the lower end. They might have to up the perceived value.

I don't think it matters if Scorpio is $500 or more. It's going to sell to the hardcore regardless. I don't think Microsoft cares about winning a console war with Sony either. If they did, they would have played it safe this gen and just delivered a pure gaming machine with the Xbox One but they had a vision for the all in one box.

If they could win it, I'm sure they'd try.

At this moment, I think they are happy being second, releasing good products and making some money.

If they really cared about being #1, they be selling X1 S for $199, giving away Gold and will release Scorpio for $300.

I don't think BMW cares that a Toyota Camry sells more cars than their 3 or 5 series.

If no more PS4s sold, I think Sony would rather sell 40M PS4s than 85M PS3s. This era is a lot more profitable.

Well, I think they painted themselves into a >$500 situation anyway. Regardless of whether they are competing directly with PS Pro or not, if they want to stay relevant, they need to hit a price point at least somewhat affordable (like under $600) and they need to offer a lot of perceived value.

I think they need to make sure that it backs up what Spencer said at E3. It needs to literally be 4K, no compromises. I don't know how they pull that off, though, but if they come out with a box that doesn't do it and is clearly not as strong as it could have been, that would be a terrible move. If they put out something that's close, and clearly is the best of available tech that's reasonable, they can get by with that. It'll be a really interesting day when the actual specs actually come out, since right now all we have that is actual fact is that it's at least 6 teraflops and I think they said 8 CPU cores. A lot of the rest of it was based on speculation from leakers or from analysis of a board that could very well have just been a concept that is not at all indicative of the final hardware design.

$500? No way. Thats a huge risk. Not only is $500 too much for a console - but will remind people why they went with the Ps4 in the first place. People are watching Microsoft closely and they arent out of the clear yet. Granted they are making quite a splash right now, but they still can't afford to make any mistakes. Again, $500? No way.

I have to say this but I think its going to be $499.99.

But this thing cant not be a 8 gig system. It better be 12 or greater. Also dump that jaguar CPU crap.

The Italian guy said he will be posting a full transcript with his Insider this weekend, but just a couple tidbits for now (translated from Twitter):

Tom: "4 k at 60 fps on high settings, you can equate Scorpio to GTX 1080, developed on Zen and Vega technology, GDDR5X memories". A taste

"Tom, but the CPU of Scorpio will be based again on Jaguar? Tom: 'hahahahahaha'. "Me: "ok ..."

Link?

And yes, Scorpio will deliver. Dev kits was most likely already in the devs hands before e3, and based on their testing Phil promised us 4k.

We'll have to agree to disagree. No way their going to allow Sony to beat them in price or anything else for that matter. $500 hundred bucks day one and all ready $100 dollars more than The Ps4 Pro? Naw....We'll see though...

No way and nVidia>AMD always

You have to remember Phil said the price have to make sense not to make it cheaper. There is a difference.

Well usually I don't care what Tom have to say but after reading this I saw me shadow d*ck hover me real quick.

This could be the reason for the one year delay as well. Components, parts will be cheaper by then. I dunno.
I think its going to be a big difference between the xbox one s vs Scorpio then say ps4 slim vs PS4 pro.

Its all about price. You want that HDR 4k player but dont want to break the bank then we have a XBOX ONE s for $299. You want a Top of the Line Console with a premium parts and built....Scorpio is for you.

 To be fair, 'Tom' hasn't missed yet...he was even the source of the 'Scorpio' name weeks before it was announced.
So I'm cautiously optimistic. I'll get the full report over the weekend.

Eight gigs is still a ton of Ram just for gaming (though it is really more like 6). There is more bandwidth too.

Since the PS4Pro is getting back 0.5Gb of Ram due to it being faster bandwidth, i'd lay long odds that the Scorpio OS only requires 2GB, which would give 10GB available for games, which is a pretty decent leap in terms of memory.

If Microsoft launches Scorpio at $500, someone dun f*cked up.

Like, real bad.

The 2TB version might (or Kinect 3 bundle ha!)

But it's going to be $399

The Xbox One S 500 GB is $299, the 1TB PS4 Pro is 3 x as powerful and $100 more. The Scorpio is 50% more powerful than PS4Pro so should net out at $450 ($50 more) ...and that's based on the cost today, in a year that drops to $399.

if 4k is night and day diffence on scorpio to ps4pro $500 is reasonable. If not than yes needs to be $400.

Not to mention much faster ram based on the specs released so far from Microsoft .

No link, yet. I follow him on twitter, and those are translated tweets from yesterday. He is posting his entire conversation with 'Tom' this weekend, so I will post the translation here as soon as he does.

His other coversations with Tom are already posted there though if you want to check them out. (http://xrays-insider.blogspot.com/?m=1). It's all in Italian though. Tom apparently is an AMD (?) employee who has occasional access to the Scorpio hardware schematics. He broke the original news ~2 weeks before anyone else, and his info has been solid. He has continued to maintain the final overall performance of Scorpio will be between 6 -10 TF, but the ultimate goal is actually 10.

Hopefully this update brings more specifics.

I'm going to counter you guys. No way this thing will be under $449.99. I think $500 is more likely than $400, though. Sony will probably drop price $50, also. They simply cannot compete with Sony on price alone, unless Sony doesn't drop price, that is. They need to build a powerful enough machine to make enough difference to want it over PS4 Pro. Just saying. $450 would be amazing enough, with what they have already revealed.

I just want them to include a superubermaxed out 720p mode :)

Maybe $500 is too much by your estimate, but I really don't get the coralation between launch Xbox One. It wasn't the $500 price tag, IMO. It was Kinect being included for a $100 more, when it could have been cheaper. Oh yeah, there was also a $100 cheaper PS4 that was even a bit more powerful. Just saying. What if the launch Xbox One was the same price and was considerably more powerful than a PS4 (with Kinect only optional)? We'd be in an entirely different ball game right now. Just food for thought.

I'm not buying this "$500 is ridiculous" mantra... even if I don't WANT to spend more. They just can't cheap this out. I do think $450-$480 is a good compromise.
