Report: Xbox One received more positive sentiment at launch than PS4

How will Titanfall use it?

1. Player sign-in, active player binding to controller.
2. Active user controller hand-off scenarios (and choose what to do in those cases)
3. Voice command input for both system and likely game-specific commands.

That's the bare minimum.

I feel like the only one who doesn't like the "hand off your controller and it automatically switches profile" thing.

They need a setting to turn just THAT off. (or is there?)

Sometimes when playing something like a racing game me and my fiance play on one of our accounts, and pass the controller off when trying to beat a challenge. I'm better at some kinds of races/challenges and she's better at others.. or it's just how we want to game.

Yeah but look at it like this. Microsoft has been keeping all US outlets stocked very well since launch. Sony hasn't. So why are we showing differences between Microsoft allocating more and Sony having one day since launch advertised for Best Buy as a factor into who is selling more.

I am just sick and tired of people using inconclusive data in arguments as fact to say who is doing better. No one has a f***ing clue so those people need to stop telling others what is right or wrong.

OK prove it. It seems to clearly upset you when someone provides an anecdote on supply and demand, so I expect some good non-anecdotal proof from you on your claim because I doubt you would do the same thing that you complain about, right?

We know that there were 1.4 million PS4's sold in NA by December 1, and 700K in Europe, so obviously they stocked at least that much. What are Microsoft's numbers?

After just coming back from Best Buy and then reading through the thread on GAF and Cheapassgamer about everyone's experiences, you guys are in for a rude awakening (I'm talking specifically to only Flynn, XboxNeo and Mcmasters).

Best Buy universally seemed to have received far more PS4's than they did Xbox One's. According to the manager they were averaging around 110 PS4's per store, and 40 Xbox One's, all shipped this week, all stored up for Sunday. This particular store met these numbers ("Over 120 PS4s and about 40 Xbox's"). I had ticket #35 for another PS4 that I am buying for my father. The guy in front of me had an Xbox One ticket #6. So there were 34 other people with PS4 tickets for every 5 Xbox One's in front of us. There was no contest in terms of both supply AND demand. My PS4 today was built in November 2013 from China.

At this moment at 1:00PM, this advertised post-launch of both consoles at the Best Buy's around me looks like this. This is in the Chicago/Milwaukee suburbs, which has the third largest metropolitan population in the country:

Why would I be in for a rude awakening? I've never claimed Microsoft is selling more or producing more. I've only made two claims:

There's high demand for both.
Both seem to be selling all they can produce.

You're post only strengthens my claims, and confirms my contentions.

I was under the impression you thought otherwise. My bad Flynn.

We don't know who is doing better, what we do know is that both are doing fine and the core audience are buying which is healthy for the industry.
I dont care who's selling more. I'm just glad I'll be able to walk in a store and buy an XO when I decide to. ( or when my wife goes to get it. )

None of that is exclusive to Titanfall though. Thanks for replying though, no one else did.

Exclusivity of Kinect features is irrelevant.

The point is, every single X1 games uses Kinect, and in multiple ways. Voice, identity, controller binding - all in every game... Which requires both visual and audible input from Kinect.

So it's simply false to claim any game on X1 doesn't use Kinect. They all do, and they all use it in multiple ways. Non-debatable fact.

How? My Best Buy received around 120 PS4's this week and around 40 Xbox One's.
It goes with Xbox out selling ps4 on Amazon.... Sony not getting consistent shipments and only 'one lump sum' shipments.... and it is as sound as your "my store represents all of the US theory.

No worries, man. Thanks for acknowledging that.

And thanks for the info... This is one of the few times I've heard about larger shipments for PS4...

January is going to be a really interesting month for reviewing 2013 numbers...

Well Sony shipped 1 million plus to NA only didn't they?

And a week ahead of MS.. whose 1 million plus was spread out across quite a few territories.. best estimate is that MS shipped roughly half what Sony did to NA.

Which means MS has been playing catchup to Sony's NA numbers from the start.. and while they've been shipping more refreshes out to NA, Sony hasn't stopped shipping and would've had a fairly good lead on MS.

I really think Sony is going to easily beat MS in the upcoming November NPD report simply because I doubt MS was able to catch up to Sony's shipped numbers.

Both consoles are fairly easily selling out left and right when shipments come in, so outside of "how were launch shipments spread out" we aren't going to know which is selling "better" until at least December NPD.. but we could see both systems selling out fairly easily longer than that.

Going to be a few months before the dust settles on the launches.
This sounds like the most likely scenario,

Prove the inconsistent shipments and "one lump sum" shipments. Where did you get that, anecdotal evidence like I am also providing?

All you and I know is that Best Buys received more PS4's than they did Xbox One's this week, and handed out tickets for both this morning. I provided actual numbers from one store but there are large threads on GAF, Cheapassgamer and Slickdeals with the same numbers. I'm not saying this is even close to NPD, but it's not like this is all made up. My real question is how does shipping more units to Best Buy this week prove less shipments? Explain that. We know they shipped at least 1.4 million units to NA the first two weeks. How many did MS ship?

s*** you don't have one yet? Surprised, I surely am. /yoda

That wasn't my question, my question was what Kinect features does Titanfall use, why would I ask that question if I was just going to be told it does what Kinect does now for every title on the X1 already? I already know of the generic Kinect X1 featureset.

Then you should probably ask what exclusive/custom Kinect feature(s) Titan fall has... And the answer to that is, it hasn't been announced.

It was obvious that was the question asking what Kinect features Titanfall has, as in 'exclusive features'.

Looks like there will not be any from what was said @ the VGX.

No worries tho, bro. Why? Because we'll have the best exclusive features a game can have.

Better IQ, better framerates and better control options.

It's up to each developer to decide what or what not use regarding Kinect--or use nothing at all. Unless something has changed, their will be no kinect motion control in Titanfall. That only leaves the possibilty of voice which I doubt. Kinect isn't suitable for every game. I think Steel Battalion showed the inadvisability of flailing one's arms and contorting one's body to control giant mechs, while sitting on a couch eating cheetos and drinking Sam Adams.

Exactly. Microsoft offers the user the two best choices - usability, ease of use, superior online infrastructure, and best-living room experience with the best controller ever made (X1), or you can enjoy it on the top of the line hardware, with IQ PS4 cannot touch, with control options which give utter refinement and customization.

:-)

This is partially false.

All X1 games use Kinect, and all developers need to decide how to handle controller hand-off scenarios, which utilize Kinect input... So no, devs cannot decide to not use it at all.

I could care less about either theory...... you seem vested in it.

False.

All games use it. They all use it in multiple ways. They may not all have crucial gameplay elements tied to that usage - but every single game on the system utilizes Kinect. Every single one.

I heard it straight from the devs mouth when they were asked about it.
Did you not watch the VGX?

The dev is wrong, if that's what they said.

What they probably meant is they're not doing anything custom/unique/special... But they will be using Kinect.

If you can provide a link to prove that, I'd like to see it. In the meantime, read this:http://www.craveonline.com/gaming/a...e-being-one-of-xbox-ones-most-important-games

I don't need to. You can choose to believe me or not, but it's the truth. All games are required to use Kinect for handling specifics with active user scenarios and controller hand off scenarios.

All games do it.

Edit: The article is wrong. Of course Titanfall supports Kinect... All X1 titles do... Any quotes or discussions around the topic are referring to features above and beyond the base line level of Kinect support... But of course Titanfall supports Kinect.

"Titanfall Won’t Support Kinect Despite Being One of Xbox One’s Most Important Games"
Kinect’s future is put into question.

The Kinect is an integral feature for the Xbox One, enough for Microsoft to take a risk by making it a mandatory inclusion that inflates the price of its next-gen console by $100. So why is it that its biggest game of 2014 won't support it?

Speaking at VGX, one of Respawn Entertainment's developers confirmed that Titanfall will have no Kinect functionality. No support was originally announced, but this move puts a real big question mark on the future of the Kinect.

Kinect is yet to be proven since the Xbox One's launch on November 22nd. Some have experienced inaccuracy with its voice commands, and while Kinect Fitness does a good job demonstrating its sensor capabilities, it has no other software to support it, and certainly nothing gamers are impressed by.

Microsoft says bundling the Kinect with the Xbox One gives developers confidence that 100% of the console's install base has access to it. This hasn't translated into anything meaningful, yet. Which developers are going to put in the time and effort to showcase the technology remains to be seen.

The Xbox One's biggest upcoming games are Quantum Break, Halo 5, and, of course, Titanfall, With one of those three opting out of Kinect support, the future looks bleak. Microsoft may choose to release a Kinect-less Xbox One sooner than originally thought.
