Sales Comparisons v. 1.6

Good news. Hope this X1 surge will force Sony's hand in lowering the price too. A $70 price differential is tough to argue against.

And how has Sony calculated sold through numbers? They must be magicians to know. They can only know how many units they actually made and shipped from their warehouses. With what they claimed last gen and were millions off their "sold through" numbers have 0 reliability and it's likelly only shipped numbers. And if the numbers that they are reporting are not actual "sold to retailers" then they would only need to be stupid to actually continue announcing it like that. Would it not be more impressive with MS stating we sold in 10Million and sony say we sold in 16million instead of saying we sold through 13? I mean they both try to inflate their numbers and make them seem as big as possible, so why would Sony then try to report lower number which they have no way of knowing vs reporting higher number (making gap look bigger) with actual sales data and not guestimates.

Those saying MS is refuzing to give you sold through numbers are just wrong as they have no way to tell you.

By the way, so average person goes to see sales numbers and what do they see? 10 million vs 15 or so million, and if Sony reported figures they actually do know and they looked like 10 million sold in vs 20 million sold in that looks like a much bigger difference and more likelly to sway person deceiding to go with PS4. So I say while I'm sure Sony does have sales lead, I call BS on their sold through numbers.
MS probably can tell how many have sold to the customer. If I am not mistaken their console has to connect to the Internet at least once for set up. They probably get some data from that.

Combination of NPD + company number estimates I'd presume.
Even NPD is not accurate, they don't actually collect data from every single store out there.

Just saying does it make sense to you that Sony would deliberately report lower of the two numbers? Why would you want to downplay your own sales?

It took xbox 360 a whole year to sell 5 million units while they had no competition, hard to believe that new gen sold ~30 million without WiiU considering that people were very sattisfied with their consoles.

Well yeah. NPD numbers are estimates too, everyone knows that. There is no way to know exactly what the number is. The closest we have are NPD and internal company estimates or a combination of both.

Sony is saying they shipped 13.5 million to retailers till end of September with 10 million of that sold through to consumers back in August. They have not commented on how much they are shipping for the holidays. Probably another few million like MS is. And we know September was a big month and October was not too bad either. So unless you believe sales were stagnant worldwide from beginning of August till now, I don't know what you are complaining about.

So what exactly do you have a problem with?

Okay next npd won't be accurate.

Xbox One sells 1 million in the U.K. Outselling PS4 3 weeks in a row

Xbox One has smashed the one million sales barrier in the UK, MCV can reveal.

It’s hit this number after out-selling PlayStation 4 for three weeks in a row, UK retailers have told us.

The resurgence in Xbox One sales has come on the back of a number of blockbuster game launches, including Sunset Overdrive, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Microsoft has also bolstered its hardware line with a special White Xbox One and a 1TB Call of Duty-branded machine, while retailers have been running a number of promotions.

“We’re seeing fantastic momentum with Xbox One having sold almost 10 million units to retailers worldwide,” said Xbox UK marketing director Harvey Eagle.

“This momentum is reflected in the UK, particularly over the last three weeks, which is extremely encouraging as we approach the Christmas shopping period. People buy consoles to play the best games, and Xbox One is home to the best games. Halo: The Master Chief Collection is one of the highest rated next-gen console games released, Sunset Overdrive is the highest rated new franchise on any next-gen console and Forza Horizon 2 is the highest rated driving game on any next gen console.

Good. A close fight is always more interesting than a blowout.

Not sure if serious...
Especially when 1st party games on the other console sell/rate better.

What is the attachment rate. Because the reason for higher sales could be more consoles sold if that statement is even true. Because a statement like this should be backed up with numbers.

interesting....

ok, we have the one million figure, which is always a great welcome. now then, what about that other figure? even though we know that it is almost said figure, we still don't know how far off it is from said figure. is it two consoles, two hundred consoles, a million? how do we define "almost" here? what is the big secret all about? if we can get things like "1 million in the UK" "3 weeks in a row" "triple last sales," then what's the deal with some tangible numbers?

rather than being coy while everyone goes out celebrating in the nude with colorful crap painted across their bottoms, how about we get some actual numbers before we lose our sanity first. mmm k?

The most important thing here, and it's a pro for gamers, is that the Xbox One remains competitive. We don't want a one man show. This is a sign of good things to come.

absolutely. I just wish we had something to chew on rather than being told that we are going to get something to chew on to which we never get.
