Xbox One X

I like this statement:

There's no real need for Microsoft to support this, but the fact that it is - and that the most hardcore gamers will appreciate it - illustrates just how much the focus has changed at Xbox HQ.

Xbox division is going back after the hardcore. Their core base used to be the hardcore until they took the lead and got Kinect happy. Again Scorpio's release is giving me the same feeling I had during OG Xbox and early 360 days back when Blackley then Allard were in charge. I'd put money on a new wave of Xbox exclusives being announced over the next couple years.

Interesting. Does anyone know if you feel a major difference between a stable 45 FPS and 60?

There is certainly a difference. FreeSync and or G-Sync just takes the judder away, but a lower frame rate can certainly be felt.

If there wasn't a need or desire, they wouldn't.

There's a difference between "need" and "desire". There's no need. There's a desire by hardcore enthusiasts.

Think I'll buy a gaming monitor end of this year and gaming tv next year.

Problem with monitors is lack of HDR. Anyone know if monitors with both HDR and freesync will be out this year or are those 2018 too?

I remember when new consoles came out every 4 years...
Yeah, that was like, every console generation before the last. Problem is, many younger gamers think the 8 year cycle is the norm, instead of the outlier. Hell, in the 90s, s*** was coming out more frequently than that! Sega Genesis, SNES, Sega CD, 32X, Saturn, Playstation, Dreamcast, Playstation 2, N64, Virtual Boy, (ok, 89 to 2000, but still)!! Not to mention the 3DO, Jaguar, and Neo Geo.

Even Nintendo had a mid-gen refresh of sorts in way of that FX Chip in the cartridges. I think the N64 did something similar with an add on. Ah, history... To bad know one remembers it...

Looks like we are going to be hearing from some devs this week about working with Scorpio....probably starting tomorrow.

I like how they are doing this...show the specs, let that sink in....then do a little more, let the devs show their excitement...then drop the games.

As long as they keep giving us stuff. I can't take the wait to E3. They need to be building the hype. Like, randomly leak some awesome screenshot for people to pixel count a couple times a week.

I'm 41 and thought the OG Xbox was the exception in terms of short life span. PS2 was 6 years. Problem with getting older is time speeds up. 4 years used to feel like a long time. Now it feels like I can hold my breath that long. Lol

5-6 years is what you used to see for Playstation and Nintendo

Lol, if all first party MS games are 4k 60fps, then yes. I'll apologize! I'm not wrong though. Forza Horizon 3 will be the first 30 fps, and the second will probably be Gears. I can see Gears getting to 60 over FH3, though.

The line has always been that Scorpio will run XBOne games @ framerate @ 4k.

The CPU is still going to limit things, it's only 200mhz faster than the one in the Pro and people expecting most games to be bumped up to 60 fps are probably going to be disappointed. I think that's why they wanted DF to be the ones to break it down, they saw all the nonsense going around online about it being a newer CPU and thought "well when this leaks out and it will because it always does people will be upset because it's not the newest and best, let's have DF come in and break down our modifications so it cuts off some of the panic" and that was very smart.

The problem is some people who were saying it had to be ryzen before are now acting like this cpu is just as good and it's not, it's 100% the right cpu for the console though don't get me wrong I have NO problem with them using it but it's still going to be limiting just as the CPU has been in the PS4/Pro and X1. Things that are heavily CPU dependent are still going to have issues pushing performance beyond a certain point and that's fine, these are consoles not PC's so we can't expect top of the line everything for a much lower price than a person would pay on a high end gaming rig.

I think Scorpio is a good buy for any gamer, but especially regular ps4 owners who haven't upgraded to pro.

With ps4, you get all the exclusives, and with scorpio you get the most powerful console by a wide margin for your multiplatforms, plus whatever 1st party IPs MS has that will run better than any other games on the console market by far.

I feel like we could subtitle pretty much all of your posts with: "Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the Scopio doing X, but let me s*** on them just a bit anyway."

Ps4 ran at higher framerate than xb1 in many cases despite being higher resolutions and a slower cpu, I expect even worse these time around.

Appropriate subtitle coming from a dog...or a bear for that matter.

PlayStation 4 Pro is not a great redesign on the PlayStation 4. It appears they were upgrading the power mainly to help VR developers with some extra benefits for non-VR gamers. But with that being the mentality, they fell short on really delivering a substantial upgrade. Even the old Blu-ray player was untouched.

The XBOX Scorpio looks like a top to bottom redesign to make a more powerful console that hardcore gamers can get excited about while attracting the Call of Duty casuals with the best looking versions of all the multiplatform games. The backwards compatibility is also paying off.

Some of us do, my friend... some of us do... and yeah, the N64 had the RAM upgrade, which made Turok 2 possible, and Perfect Dark...

Saw this quote at Neogaf...

"....some TVs like the KS8000 come with a separate box that has the HDMI inputs. The inputs are not in the actual TV. You plug that box in the TV itself. Theoretically, you could just get a newer one of those boxes with HDMI 2.1 inputs whenever they come out and replace it."

Frozpot, that's the family of 4K TV you have...right? That's the family of Samsung that I've been eyeing. If this is true and the inputs could be upgraded later, I may get the TV this year after all.

You are correct in saying that consoles are not PCs. Part of that equation is the fact that a console doesn't need the same caliber of CPU to achieve the same results in a game. That has ALWAYS been the case. This being a bottleneck in the console remains to be actually proven with real results.

I have that family of TV, and I am not sure what the box does entirely, so what you are suggesting is a possibility, but i wouldnt go out and buy one just based on that chance...

Yes, and part of that is just how capable the base PS4 is. Hitting that 1080p gets it to a great baseline that just works. Much of the extra layer of visual wow comes purely from have great IQ in their first party games. Uncharted 4 was the first time this really sank in. Playing Horizon last night solidified it. This is evident in the fact that everything else is the same between it and the 'BOne. Same models, same lighting, same particles, same textures, usually the same frame-rate. Just a bit cruddier image quality.

Though I am in love with the HDR capabilities on the One S (oh, Forza Horizon 3!) I'm ready to be done with the 'Bone's Blurriness on Multi-plats.Though obviously not a deal breaker for me, as I love my Xbox ecosystem, it is definitely becoming more and more noticeable as my 4k consumption increases. Hell, I will even watch something I am not particularly interested in if it is in 4k. I am spoiled, and when the Scorpio arrives my Corruption will be COMPLETE!!

I have the KS8500, which is the Curved version, and yes, it does have a separate input box (I love it, and I never knew I would!). I love my TV. low latency (in game mode), HDR (in game mode), fantastic brights, great color(4:4:4 sub-sampling)! The Only real knock for me is a fully black screen could be darker, but when the image is on, it's amazing :D

I never thought about an upgrade to the box. Makes sense to me, but the question is if Samsung will make one...

don't start this dumb stuff plz

I love my Pro. But it does feel that way.

It's a testiment to Sony and the fact that they nailed the PS4 design. Where as Microsoft kind of undercooked the X1 because of Kinect and were in more desperate need for an upgrade.

How is that stupid?

Interesting. Does anyone know if you feel a major difference between a stable 45 FPS and 60?

Depends on the game. Generally though 45 is a better experience than 30. Ive locked PC games to 50fps before in the past and that was smooth.

I wouldn't recommend it for racing games.

You are aloud to have your own opinion, but please don't let it be that there is anything wrong with a Sony product; and of course, please don't be excited about their being any kind of power advantage that Scorpio might provide. Neither of those should be considered real opinions or feelings. Now, please go get sanitized.

Horizon on the Pro is this years best looking game period.
So how would something that put out such a looker give you a bad feeling?
You are getting Scorpio for the visual increase but Pro has shown a visual increase.
