Sony at E3 2017

I am kinda bummed with the E3 after even more thought. It seems that I really only have one retail game to look forward to until the end of the year, GT Sport. Is there a reason Sony comes out swinging at the beginning of the year, then s***s it's pants the rest of the year every year?

Unless I missed something that would appeal to me?

Probably not. They've got 26 exclusives coming out between now and the rest of the year, so if you can only find 1 of interest, I guess you'd better stick with the Bone. No interest in WipeOut?

p.s. I think there are three reasons Sony tends to not focus on the holiday period as much as MS, and instead spread their exclusives throughout the year. First is unintentional slippage of titles originally intended for the holidays. Second is because they have a larger global audience than MS does. MS is strongest in US/UK, where the Christmas shopping season is a major phenomenon. That isn't as true for the rest of the world.

Third reason is that they understand that by releasing games outside of the crowded holiday season, they have a better chance of getting attention. When you've got all the major third parties focused on the holidays, it can be hard to stand out. Some of Nier's, Persona's, and Nioh's successes may have been due to the fact that they had the spotlight to themselves.

MS didn't get chit for it and Sony shouldn't either.
Blame lack of competition for the reason of Sony:everything

Last time I checked the X1 needed a strong conference not Sony. As usual they failed to show any major new IP's exclusively to Xbox and windows 10. Nothing but 2014 rehashes, indies, Forza 1500 and a glorified Pro. As a Ps4 owner no reason to buy an XOX.

When it's all said and done Sony has a strong line up for the next 2 or 3 years and that's not including Bloodborne 2 and Sucker Punch's new IP. Who cares if they won/lost E3. LOL

If anyone deserves hate it's MS.

Its probably 1/3 coincidence 1/3 delays 1/3 we don't want to release up against the biggest games.

No interest in Wipeout would be correct. I have seen the list of games available for the rest of 2017 on the PS and I am only seeing the GT Sport as the big one that is a must have. UC4 DLC and Horizon DLC doesn't appeal to me. VR games don't appeal to me. The golf game Everybody's golf doesn't appeal to me as I prefer the Golf Club and EA's PGA. Ni No Kuni II also isn't in my game taste. I have a pretty broad taste of games, considering I have been enjoying plenty of PS games in general (Nier, Journey, TLG, UC, Everyone's Gone to the Rapture, Horizon....

This is true. Something I frequently forget.

I gotcha. Well, no platform is for everyone.

I don't mean to say it's a fantastic lineup, the rest of the year. In truth, it's a bit weak, with lots of filler in that list of 26. But still, I've got four games I'm looking forward to -- Crash Bandicoot, Uncharted: Lost Legacy, Horizon: Frozen Wilds, and Yakuza Kawami -- and a couple other games I've heard good things about but I'm not sold on yet (Undertale, Ni No Kuni 2). So I'm set.

And for the record, I want to make sure you don't think I am saying the games coming this year for the PS are garbage or anything like that. Just that they don't appeal to me (that I have researched, but I might be missing something). No doubt they appeal to someone otherwise they wouldn't be made.

Which is why I choose to just game on both. No complaints from me really on either side.

Not a strong latter 2017 for Sony unless tgs has some surprise.
X has a big s***hole to climb out of $500 and no games puts you in deep..

Oh, okay, I guess it was the comment about how Sony was "sh*tting its pants" that threw me, lol.

You don't actually game on both though.

Sure, its not for everyone, but if you own a regular ps4 and haven't upgraded to pro, the XoX versions of multiplatforms will absolutely decimate the regular ps4 versions especially after this freshman year on the market(some will already this winter).

The problem I can see for some upgrading to pro is they will have access to the same exact library and if console only gamer, MS has a different library of games and the most powerful console by a wide margin. It's an option for some. I know some ps4/xbox one games are starting to look pretty rough the last couple of years and having a pro, not sure I can sleaze back down to 900p after having CB, native 4k even better.

There will be alot of XoX/regular ps4 owners out there, they get the exclusive games and the best console multiplatforms. Me, I like VR so MS isn't catering to me right now for that.

From what we seen it's a glorified Pro. Mid gen consoles are pushing parity at this point. Most importantly the exclusives don't look any better than Sony offerings especially when you consider Spiderman is open world. Maybe down the line we'll see a true difference but so far not impressed with either mid gen console.

Sony does have GT Sport coming out which is an entry in their strongest franchise overall, it's not a game that I care about but I know a good number of people do, I don't think it'll do the numbers the series used to do but it'll probably still be moderately successful.

We already got Horizon and will have DLC for that as well as UC The Last Legacy which is supposed to be about as long as the first UC game so they have a pretty decent second half of the year, nothing huge but also not bone dry either. We'll also be getting GOW and Spider-Man and that SOTC remake before the next E3 so overall that sounds like a very strong start to next year.

Sony doesn't seem to adhere to the "big holiday release" schedule anymore which is fine by me because so many big 3rd party games come out around the holidays.

Have you seen pro in person on a big nice 4k TV? The difference is very noticeable. Xbox one X is beyond that even. A regular ps4 vs a Xbox One X will be huge onsreen and its a safe bet with multiplatforms if you want a decent mid tier gaming rig for $500.

Never see you on and my Pro is on many times even when I am not playing.
Almost everytime I log on XBL you are on.

A terrible remainder of 2017.
No reason 4 the delays especially Spiderman and Sony shot themselves by not having it ready the year the movie releases.

X is exactly a Pro + but with worse exclusives and worse 3rd party exclusive deals.
Might be enough 4 some and that's great but I expect over half of X's sold to be current XBO owners and it being very niche or hardcore product.

Well just look at my account and trophies and dates. I was playing Horizon yesterday as a matter of fact. So the proof proves you wrong.

Yea but it's not "OMG I need a Pro now" difference and neither is XoX. If they were pushing 60 fps I'd buy one in a heart beat.

Spidey wasn't delayed.

Release calendar doesn't look super-impressive, but it's hardly "terrible."
  • Two Housemarque games, both look great
  • A nearly full-sized Uncharted spinoff
  • A meaty expansion to a very popular RPG (Horizon)
  • Yakuza Kiwami, remake of a classic
  • Crash Bandicoot, remake of three classics
  • Lawbreakers, Cliffy B's game
  • Undertale, big hit on PC
  • Ni No Kuni II, anticipated JRPG by respected developers
  • GT Sport, long anticipated sequel to a respected franchise
  • FFXII: Zodiac Age
  • Everybody's Golf
  • GOTY candidate, Knack 2
You just don't like the games being offered; they aren't to your taste. Doesn't make it "terrible," except for you.

Knack 2 actually looks good...didn't know it was 2017.
Spiderman I clearly saw somewhere having a 2017 date.
Remakes blah
Forgot(that quick :smash:) about Law/Breakers

Worse 3rd party deals don't mean much these days, you just wait a few months or year and you get the same thing.

One thing I do see a difference in is number of enhanced games. Have you seen the list for X1X upgraded games? Its far more than what pro had this early, even devs that wouldn't upgrade for pro are now jumping onboard for X1X first. Witcher 3 is a good example.

Yea but it's not "OMG I need a Pro now" difference and neither is XoX. If they were pushing 60 fps I'd buy one in a heart beat.

No I agree, 60fps is great, we might see some more performance modes 1080p/60fps. Its just hard to go back to 900-1080 after seeing native 4k, even CB. One reason why I love VR, 60fps mandate.

eeeehhhh not agreeing with some games on Pro not making a big difference as Horizon ZD in all its colorful HDR visuals are a large jump as is BF1 and TF2 to name a few.
XBO to X should/could be a whole generation better as the jump is around 5 X.

If I end up with a X or not certain 3rd party games exclusives are enough(without counting other reasons) 4 me 2 buy on the Pro just like now with my computers vs Pro.
This is a huge incentive 4 me as it was with the 360 sometimes last gen.
Its great 4 current XBO owners that games are getting upgrades but I don't expect much with Witcher 3's upgrades as the hardware just isn't there and I already play it Maxed/60fps 4K.
