Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Wow, this game is one helluva an undertaking. I've been reading up on the last few days and watching some vids, its definitely on my radar.

It has some of the best looking environments and materials I've seen in a game.

Here's the break down on the console differences:

X1X 1440p, max lighting and improved effects

PS4 pro 1080p

PS4/Xb1 900p

Based on what I've read the ps4 pro version seems like a copy and paste with a resolution bump over the standard consoles, whereas X1X gets the bonuses and a resolution bump. We'll see, it seems to me the pro could do more, but then again this is a demanding game.

Waiting for impressions on the combat...what exactly do you do when that star appears in the middle of the screen...go up or down, left with the left or right analog and hit R2 lets say at the same time or what ?...from the video's,it looks really hard and janky. And if its something like Mount and Blade or For Honor,I just suck at those lol...everything else looks good to me.

So this comes out the day before my bday. Juat saying in case anyone is looking to get me something. That's probably the only way I'll be getting this.

If I buy you a game it would be something we could play coop and spend time together.

Latest trailer, more dramatic than the earlier ones. I guess release day is approaching.

Hype? Naw, I don't get hyped no more. Be interesting to see how this one is received, though.

It definitely looks good. The only thing that’s off putting for me is the first person combat. I just prefer third person in games where melee is the main focus. It’s on my radar though.

My guess for the impressions is that it looks great, but has subpar performance on most consoles.

The combat will be tedious to learn, but rewarding if you put in the hours. I also get the feeling enemy repetitiveness might be a problem. How many times can you kill "bandits" with over and over without any sort of monsters or ghosts? But maybe they've figured something out.

Its still on my radar regardless. I really wish someone would do a game like this with the focus on coop, like a story about siblings.

We’ll find out soon enough about the performance but in a recent AMA the community manager rick said several times the game runs at a solid 30 fps on consoles.

I assume it’s the same for Pro too but rick5292 said on the AMA the X also benefits from enhanced lighting, shading and better lod.

Did know about the better lod, DF will be interesting at launch and the upcoming patches I'm sure.

The update is as big as the game itself? Wow.

This went from a possible purchase after it drops in price to never being purchased.

I was leaning toward a purchase if reviews were solid, now they would have to be incredible for me to consider it.

I mean patch size could be that much, but unless they actually know for sure I doubt it's going to double the size. If it is indeed a patch and not just half the game lol, it's probably just going to replace a ton of files.

***Day 1 Patch Announcement***
Hello Everyone,

Four years after our Kickstarter campaign, our games is finally set to be released next week. This is admittedly later than what we had promised to our backers and later than we had originally envisaged. I don’t want to bore our backers with excuses and platitudes – taking time to deliver the awesome experience that YOU deserve – the simple truth is that the task was really big and our team still quite small and we also made mistakes along the way.

However, we always wanted to deliver, to create the game we wanted and we believed you wanted. And one mistake we flatter ourselves on not doing is succumbing to complacency. That means being constantly dissatisfied with the state of the game – not necessarily because it is bad, but because it could be better.

The production realities of console game development mean that ‘release’ version has to be submitted some three months before the actual release date. We could have used these three months to get some rest, or we could use it to create some additional content and sell it to you as DLC, but we went back to the version-to-be-released and worked on it and tweaked it and polished it and the results are obvious: all the animations have been fine-tuned, quests are more balanced, RPG progression is smoother, the game runs faster and is more stable; every facet of the game got some polish.

The drawback, of course, is that most of the data in the old build were replaced and have to be downloaded as a patch. At hefty 25GB, it’s going to take some time and it’s a shame. Still, we strongly believe that after the four-year wait it will pay off to wait a little bit longer while the Day 1 patch is downloading. Trust me, it will deliver the awesome experience YOU deserve!

Sincerely,

Martin Klima

From this, it sounds like they rushed out an unfinished game and are trying to fix what they screwed up. I hope reviews are based on the product they sent out and not on the patched version.

Hmm. I had a different reaction. I'm glad they spent the 3 months improving the game. (Btw, I wasn't aware that games needed to be submitted 3 months in advance of their actual release...no wonder we get so many Day 1 patches.) The size of the patch means they made a lot of improvements. Huge RPGs are difficult undertakings, especially for a small team. Any game like that would benefit from additional work.

I hope they review the patched version, since that is what people will be playing. Unfortunately for the devs, they'll probably review the unpatched version.

The impressions I've been reading on resetera are pretty positive overall, more so than I expected actually. The biggest negatives are the patch size and some frame pacing issues. Seems people are having fun with it.

Morrowind had a development team of 35 people and we all know how successful that game was.

Wow, 35 people, really? That's probably my favorite game of all time. Buggy as hell, but a great game.

Granted that was 16 years ago. I don't know how Kingdom Come will compare to the depth of Morrowind. It could be buggy as hell. Which it probably will be but, who know, the rest of the game could shine.

Yup, we shall see. Early impressions are positive, but early impressions tend to be overly glowing. I'm curious to see how it reviews. The embargo lifts Tuesday morning. I'm especially interested to hear what people think after they've spent 30+ hours with the game.

I didn't know about the 3 month thing either. I always thought when a game went gold 3 weeks or so before a game gets released was how it worked.

I disagree with what the reviews should be based on. Whatever they ship to the store should be how the game gets judged. People like me can't update games over 3-4GB and nobody should be expected to, just because developers rush out unfinished games. This doesn't sound like a few issues, this sounds like a massive overhaul to me. Things like this should just be delayed. I'm talking about all games, not just this one.
