Xbox Series X | S Preorder Help/Info Thread

I work with backend systems like this for a living :-) The order is still there because it's linked on your account. The cart purchase is a different system.

In Europe Microsoft linked all retailers to the xbox account because they only allowed one console per xbox account. So matter if you tried Gamestop, PC World, Amazon, or whoever... your account on Microsoft had the order on it. I'm not sure if this was done in the US but it might very well have been. So be wary - if you start having problems with Amazon that is probably why.

There should be no way to link my MS account to my Amazon one, so I should be good. I emptied my cart too just to be sure. The other complication is my MS account had an old, invalid card on it which I had to change, that's where I ran into issues. Should have fixed that before I ordered. There's no way MS charged me because that card was deactivated (had 2 of my credit cards stolen within 1 day of each other recently, which was fun).

Over here if you went to GameStop you needed to present your xbox account details to the login api via some third party auth service I hadn't seen before. Like I said, they enforced a one console per customer - no matter where you bought one online.

Yep. That would absolutely have done it.

Cool, I don't even use the same e-mail between MS and Amazon. My Amazon account is ancient and actually ties into my work e-mail. I bought a book from them back in 1998. My Amazon account is probably older than some people here. :)

Not that often. The family there is a step-sister and her husband, so they usually are just at my parents or other relatives when we do get together. Last time I drove through Sun Prairie was probably on my way to Road America several years ago lol.
Aren't you in Iowa?

There is one in my cart on the microsoft store but the place order button is greyed out

log onto the MS store. Go in your account and check your orders. If you see it in there then it should be reserved for you. Assuming that, click the cart icon even if it shows 0 items. All going well you will see the Xbox there to pay for.

If you see the console in your account orders but can’t get it through to the cart, give them a ring.
If you don’t see the console in your account orders it probably didn’t go through for you at all.

I think the sites just kinda broke due to traffic. It said it was unavailable even though I had it in my cart from the moment it went live. Then when I went back in, it was still there. So it seems as if it was in fact slotted to me, and when traffic died down, it recovered from it's brain fart.

Yea I've lived in Dubuque for almost 10 years now. Grew up in Brodhead though.
My wife and I are going to do a weekend of Galena/Potosi Brewing/Dubuque Greyhound Casino down there I think in November.

For folks looking to order and if MS Store comes up for a stock alert, try both the website and on the console. I got mine on console on Tuesday around 8:31am (also got in on web first but couldn't select a diff payment method at checkout; card there was old and couldn't select new or MS account). I do recognize that I got really lucky after the web snafu to get in on console.

The console a) Had correct payment method and b) let me use my $430 of Microsoft account $$ ($330 was redeemed from MS rewards) first and only charged me $112 for Series X. Actually, this is the 3rd preorder I've done from the console and had a great experience every time (well, this time it did take circa 25 tries for it to go through...but understandable with all of the issues RE: retailer sites and flooding of MS sites). In a standard year, pre-orders probably would have come earlier with more "restocks" before launch but it's 2020 so 🤷‍♂️. Good luck to you folks on finding the restocks.
